So close, but epic fail.These do not line up correctly at the point of the cutter. It takes extra effort to line the blade up with the line on the pill, say in the middle of the cutter, to make up for the misalignment. What I was hopeful for was the fact that it didn't have a blade guard, so I could clean the blade, unlike other pill cutters. But if it cuts crooked and at angles, it's useless. I'm dealing with phenobarbital for my small dog ( she can't have the liquid form). She needs accurate cuts. I guess there isn't a decent pill cutter out there. Someone needs to invent a good one, as they'd make a killing. I'm super pissed off these are not returnable. I did not notice that when I was ordering. Save your money. They may look like great pill cutters, but it's all show. 1Poor Cutting for Small PillsI have a small pill that is not scored. It is taken 1/2 in AM and 1/2 in PM. This gadget refuses to cut it in half. Sometimes it comes out 3/4 and 1/4 and sometimes 3/4 and crumbles. Not returnable so ordered another variety of "Amazon's Choice" and will give it a shot. 1It works!!I got this pill cutter because we were having trouble with our insurance with getting a lower dose of a pill. So instead we opted out to get the higher dose and cut it in two. I read the reviews of different cutters and the biggest complaint from all of them, including this one, was that it would not cut right or would mash the pills. I decided on this one because I felt that if it did not work at least I didn t spend so much. The pills I need to cut are teeny tiny and I was worried cutting them! So far this cutter has been GREAT. It cuts these tiny pills very nicely and I have never had a pill ruined. Glad I chose this one because not only does it work, it was a good price! 5works like a charmThis works perfectly for me, as I have to cut one of my medications in half as a trial for a while before getting labs again to see if the doctor wants to officially change the dosage (and saves me money as I had just gotten 90 days worth of pills). Sharp blade, and I can cut/keep a few halves in the compartment for the next days usage. Easy to use, had a different one before and it just failed, would not close anymore or cut. This one, so far, is doing great, doesn't seem to be any danger of me cutting myself with the blade either. Small footprint too, which is a plus when you have limited storage space 5The Best Pill Splitter I Have Ever Used!I have tried dozens of pill splitters and nothing I have bought and used is better than this. Take a look at the photo - the new one on the left is the one I just bought and received. The one on the right is from 2006! I have dropped it hundreds of times, lost then found it in my car and everywhere else, stepped on it, thrown it against the wall, and carried it in my pocket in the cold and heat - and it STILL works. The blade is just now starting to get dull and only occasionally crushes softer tablets and compounds.I carry this in my pocket whenever I go out with my daily supply of meds. This little splitter is one of the best products I have ever bought anywhere or at any price. I have split thousands of pills in it and saved major dollars using it.I rarely go "gaga" over anything I buy anymore, but this is a real gem. No, you won't be able to carry a three-day inventory of pills in the small chamber, but that is not what it is intended to do. Those complaining about the chamber being to small don't get what this is supposed to do. It saves you money by being able to have your doctor prescribe higher dose tablets so you can split them and save. I have even quartered some tablets with this! You can also take smaller doses when you are unsure about a drug and its effects. (All drugs scare the beans out of me.)Buy this - it goes far beyond what any splitter is designed to do and the price it is now is actually cheaper now than when I bought my first one. That makes it an insane bargain. I would pay four times the price, and the other splitters I have tried from $1 to $30 aren't even close to the quality of this one. 5Junk. Now I have to bother with sending this piece of junk back for a refund. Maybe it's better to stick with cheap items imported from Asia rather than this expensive junk that is stamped Made in U.S.A. 1A pill cutter done right, simple in design but excellent in function.Having now owned both this Apex "Deluxe" splitter as well as the other Apex "Ultra" model, I have to express my favor for this model.The Ultra version has a blue non-slip pad to prevent tablet slippage and blue lid, compared to the orange features on the Deluxe. The advantage offered by the Ultra model are a larger storage compartment to save cut pills, as well as a flexible plastic blade guard that doubles as a spring-loaded hinge that could aid frail hands and protect against accidentally cutting yourself. However, the blade guard is designed in such a way that it'll inevitably start failing and ultimately break, once this happens you can expect the pill cutter to never fully close - a gap of about a quarter inch can lead to your medication falling out - definitely not good for something you keep with you on-the-go.This Deluxe version, by contrast, has an orange non-slip pad and a clear lid. The blade seems to be identical between both models, however the Deluxe lacks the aforementioned blade guard that is prone to failure. Without it the blade is still very much out of the way during normal operation, I don't see much risk with the blade exposed as it'd be quite hard to accidentally touch it. The build quality and overall thickness of materials is actually much better on the Deluxe than the Ultra, and while it doesn't have a spring-assisted closure and opening it stays closed unlike the Ultra after failure of the guard. It does have less storage, but is more than enough for my purposes - it fits about a day's worth of medicine for my own purposes, which is exactly what I needed. Overall I find the Deluxe to be a better value as it seems to be much more durable and not prone to failure/breakage like I've experienced with the Ultra model.If you're still capable of handling a kitchen knife (talking tremors here), you'll be perfectly safe without the blade guard of the Ultra and in choosing the Deluxe will get much more use before the product breaks. In my opinion and for my uses, it is far superior to the Ultra version and I expect it to last a long time. 5Precision Pill GripSo,you would not expect me to be so happy to have found this model pill cutter but I am. It's the rubber area that holds the pill to be split/cut. I had a couple of this type years ago and could not find this type. I ended up buying a cutter that had a hard plastic pill holder, not a great item the pill can't really be held in place and usually moves on you as you cut. This with the rubbery holder is very nice, holds the pill just right and it doesn't have a tendency to move on you thus making a mess of your pill. Might seem silly but at the cost of medications lately a precision device is warranted. Thanks Apex for this better pill cuter. 5Does Exactly What it Promises WellI selected 5 stars because this pill splitter seems more effective than the previous one I purchased. Two family member require their pills to be split, and the cutting bar is sturdy and cuts the pills more effectively more than our previous splitter that we retired when we purchased this one. There are fewer tablets that get splintered or crumble, which saves money. Since it is clear plastic, you can see through it to observe if the round tablet has shifted prior to splitting it. The cutting bar appears very safe, and neither of us has ever been injured by the cutting bar, which although it is sturdy enough to split pills, isn't razor sharp or even sharp to the touch, so if you accidentally touch it, you won't be cut, which we have all done on several occasions. although this is a small and relatively inexpensive item, no one wants to waste time and money on a useless and ineffective product, which only has to be researched and subsequently replaced, which this one is not. I think you will be happy with this pill splitter for home use. 5Perfect for mei got this to break 50mg of topamax pills. they are small with no score or little break line. i had tried to use my fingers which did not work at all. A knife broke them all up. My teeth made an uneven cut and I ended up tasting the pills every time. I saw this and read the great reviews. Despite the great reviews, I still had trouble believing that this object was going to do the trick. It just didn't seem logical in my mind. Especially because the pill is not already marked for cutting.The red things is rubber so as soon as you put a pill in, the pill is gripped. As soon as I snapped the lid, my pill was cut before I even intended to cut it! LOL! it was that easy. I did a bunch. I really did not believe that something so simple would work so simply but it does. I am so glad to have this thing. I have been purchasing things lately that solve annoyances in my life and this one is a good buy. I feel lucky to have found it. 5
