High QualityExactly what I wanted. Excellent quality, very pleased! 5Buyer doesn t know what it is sellingI gave it 2 stars because I love Brazos walking sticks. But this is a case of Buyer Beware. The sticks are clearly described in at least two places as 48 in. I ordered one but received a 54 in stick. Returned it for a 48 but got another 54 2Safe, secure and handsome walking stickMy primary current reason for having a cane or walking stick is for security against aggressive coyotes or dogs in our neighborhood, rather than to help me walk. This 55" oak walking stick is definitely better for such security, though my 36" hickory cane fits more easily into small spaces. This walking stick is also clearly superior for not making me look like a frail old man, which I suppose I'll be soon enough. Its grooved design is also quite handsome.I tested the walking stick on a 3 mile walk in town today, and found it fairly easy to bring along. It once also helped me avoid a fall, while walking on grass. I didn't need it to deter any critters today, but better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.We have a trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons planned later this year, and I will definitely want this walking stick along for that. I no longer scramble up and down slopes as easily as fifty years ago, and though I still love to hike in the woods, I'll now appreciate the added safety of a walking stick, and expect it to be much more useful there than a cane. Getting the stick there will be easy, as we are driving. I have no idea what would be involved in taking it on a plane. My wife, who uses a cane daily, much prefers her folding cane, with its padded handle, but that one wouldn't be worth as much in scaring off a critter. At 5'9" in height, this walking stick is an exact fit for me, with my hand fitting comfortably within the leather cord at the top. Note that there are several colors and sizes offered, so be sure to select the one best for you, although it would be easy enough to remove the rubber tip at the bottom and saw off an inch or two if I needed the stick to be shorter.Overall, a very good walking stick. 4Beautifully constructed - perfectly balancedThis oak Spiraled Walking Stick is a beautiful work of art. It s made by true craftsmen in Texas who used hardwood oak to create this rustic item. Each walking stick includes the name of the craftsman who actually made it in this case Ethan Mulkey. If you are a hiker or a trekker you may have seen fellow outdoors men using similar products and often they re an excuse to stop, chat and compare the legacy of these collectable products. Some have been handed down for generations and some, like the one I m reviewing, are new but will definitely become a family heirloom article.I live in Orange County CA smack dab in the middle of what many may think of as a very urban area but within this community we ve had mountain lion attacks, many coyote sightings within blocks and just a few miles north there are brown bears that roam the streets and even take dips in back yard pools. It s recommended that when you re out walking alone or with pets you carry spray and a big stick. Well, this rugged 55 oak Walking Stick does the job it gives you an added layer of security when using it.The surface of this stick is coiled in a spiral and then sanded smooth. There is a leather thong through a drilled hole to slip your wrist through for security and the circumference is correct to provide a hand hold that lets you grip it firmly. The colors range from a rich dark brown to lighter yellowish brown that you d expect in a good piece of oak. This is then covered in a clear coating that protects your stick. If you re wondering about the difference between a cane and a walking stick it is that basically a cane is shorter and designed to carry the weight of the owner if you have balance or physical problems and your doctor has recommended a cane then stick with that. A walking stick is more decorative and almost a fashion item. They do help with walking in a primitive setting and for poking and exploring your whereabouts. Having a Walking Stick gives you security in the rugged outdoors. This hard wood oak stick has a heavy duty tip that should last a long time. Be aware that if the tip wears out you can always purchase a replacement on the internet. All in all I m very impressed with the construction and the beauty of this item. 5crackedIt cracked i took the rubber off you can hear it when it taps concrete 2Smooth classic design with a twisty touchThis trekking pole has a nice quality feel. Although I prefer the Brazos Twisted Sassafras Handcrafted Wood Walking Stick over this one, because the Twisted Sassafras model has a slight indented top for a better grip. This one is smooth at the top so it is easier to lose grip on this one. Here are some photos for a closer look. These are Made in Texas. 4I recommend this walking stick...I love this walking stick so much, that I just purchased one for a friend who will be going on hikes with me in the mountains. This walking stick is a quality item, well made in Texas, USA. I love the color and grain of the wood, and knowing that it will be strong enough to assist me when I need it. It's a work of art as no two are alike because they are made from different cuts of wood, the design is excellent, and the tip on the bottom of the walking stick will last for many, many years. I am in no way affiliated with the company that manufactures these walking sticks. You are welcome to check out my reviews of other products. :) 5Great walking stickI hike a lot, living near Lake Michigan and a lot of State parks. Usually, I end up picking up a stick and carrying it, though I rarely run into anything more dangerous than foxes and smallish black bears --who are decidedly as nervous of me as I am of them. We have coyotes in the area though. This stick is much sturdier and stronger than most of the ones I carry.A stick isn't going to protect me much, but I do like having one. Funny, I have a bunch of straight sticks standing near a tree where I leave my yard. I never really thought about it. 4This is a nicely made walking stickThis is a nicely made walking stick. It feels quality made and is smooth to the touch. The twisted look adds some character and elegance to an already nice product. The rubber tip adds some extra stability during hiking. I do wish the top had a better grip. The leather strap is useful to help keep from losing the staff altogether in a fall but does nothing for helping hang on to it in the first place. I saw in the review photos that someone added rope grips to theirs so I will see if that does the trick. 4Yes, 5 Stars; But Why So Expensive? (I Was Going To Buy Here on Amazon, But Ace Had It For 35% Less!)I had the opportunity to review for Amazon Vine one of Brazos' oak canes (Brazos Twisted Oak Handcrafted Wood Cane with Derby Handle, Flint, 37 Inch, Made in the USA). I loved it then and still do today (it's my everyday walking aid). But I thought the price (here on Amazon) was a bit steep. That was confirmed when I picked up this walking stick at my local Ace hardware store. I posted a picture to show you what I paid and it's at least one-third less than what is being asked here on Amazon ($28.99 at Ace versus $43.83 here on Amazon). Why the price difference; why so expensive here on Amazon?Regardless of what you pay (hopefully, it will be a reasonable one!) or where you buy, this is a really nice walking stick. Not too heavy, but not too "flex-y." Well made and quite pleasing aesthetically, Only downsides: it doesn't have the little Brazos plaque/seal on it like my cane does and I wish the leather thong was a bit beefier. Will probably wrap the staff up near the top (below the thong). So a few things working against it. But not enough - I think - to deduct a star.I really am a fan of Brazos products. I think you could be one too.Now I have a Brazos "staff" for walks in the woods to go along with my Brazos cane for street walking. 5 stars. 5
