Surprisingly Good Socks!I had a serious fall in 2007 where I had a complete ankle break... compound fracture. Really bad. The doctor said it was the worst ankle break he had ever seen. Recovery took quite a while and although I live with quite a bit of pain I am very grateful that I can walk. One thing I learned early on is to layer my support. Always start with a good support compression sock and then add whatever supports, braces, shoes, etc. that you need.I have tried many different support compression socks. From those requiring a prescription to the cheaper ones. And, over the years my requirements have changed. For instance, lately I have needed socks and/or shoes with some sort of padding. My favorite go to socks are the white Jobst Active Wear in the 20-30 compression. However, these are the more expensive over-the-counter socks. And, for some reason the socks often have differences between lots... such as size of knee band, appearance of the warp/filling yarns, length of the sock, etc. So I had to purchase colored cross-stitching floss to mark the socks so I can easily match the socks up to their mate after laundering. Why the white ones? Well, the black socks are dyed. The white ones are much softer and more comfortable. As I am the sole caregiver to my mother I am on my feet much of the day. So I need something that feels good.Sometimes though you need black socks... and sometimes you just don't want to pay a lot. So I went on a mission to find some less expensive socks via Amazon. I learned early on to never buy socks where people posted pictures where the socks came up over their knees. I didn't like any of those socks that I tried.For me the best socks are cushioned, have plenty of toe room, graduated compression, a leg binding that comes just under the knee and that is not scratchy. Please, no red marks! Of course, the sock must stay put too. Ankle and heel protection are also important.I have to say I was surprised with how much I liked the BritelLeafs Running/Racing socks. I specifically pulled them out today because they don't bind my foot in any way yet are supportive. So I came on-line to purchase some more and found they were on sale, which is nice. One change I am making is that I am ordering a smaller size. Due to my injury my calves are not the same size. Since I hate having my feet/toes pinched, and concern over my larger calves, I had originally ordered an extra-large. I should have ordered the large since that is the size I wear in the Jobst... but unfortunately sizing is different between brands (see below). Anyway, I believe the large will be a better fit for me. I ordered four more pairs today, and if the size is good I plan to order more. I like having plenty of socks on hand.For anyone that is interested, there is another sock that I have liked and have ordered multiple pairs in. It is the Wanderlust... link provided below. They feel good and are wearing well... but then I have 11 pairs!----- Wanderlust Air Travel Compression Socks, L-XL: Men 8.5-12 / Women 9.5-12Now, if you can relate to my leg/ankle issues there is one pair of socks I just can't recommend. They are made by ABD Athlete. They looked great, but I can hardly get my big toe into them! I ordered the pink pair and honestly, they are so small that I can't get them on. So, I gave them to my 5'3" mother who weights about 116 pounds and has small calves. After much effort, we can get them on her, but she says they are too tight and uncomfortable. Maybe I got an off pair. However, if you very lean they may just work for you. If you think these are too many socks keep in mind that compression socks do not last a long time like regular socks do. I believe Jobst told me (years ago) that compression socks should be replaced every six months.One final thought. I have only laundered these socks three-four times. If these socks don't wear well, or develop some other problem, then I will definitely report back. When my new order is received I will make it a point to wear them daily so that I can make a quicker determination of quality. I'm not fond of holes or pilling!Hope this has helped someone. Stay safe ... and hold on when you are on stairs!--------------------------------------UPDATE 8 Aug 2017: I am back for the third time to reorder these socks. I received the smaller size (large) and they fit much better than the extra-large. I have to say that I don't like for manufacturers to size compression socks only by shoe size. They leave it to the consumer to sell their socks for them by addressing issues such as how they fit on different calf sizes. They should be doing this. This is why my review is longer than I'd like. I wear a large in the Jobst Active Wear, and also a large in the BriteLeafs. My right ankle, due to its injury, is larger than my left ankle... which is a little over 11 inches when not swollen. I like the cushion in these socks... yet they still have the compression. I also like the fact that they stay up ... and the knee band doesn't pinch or scratch. If my experience, size, etc., sounds anything near what you are experiencing then give these socks a try. I have tried many socks from Amazon. The only three I will, or can wear are the Jobst, BriteLeafs Professional Running, and Wanderlust. All three work for me and I am going to quit trying other socks. It gets to expensive!UPDATE 31 AUG 2017: I have now tried BriteLeafs Professional Sports Recovery & Performance Compression Socks 20-30mmHg Firm Support. I like these too. Just can't have too many socks! Especially when you have pain ... and a care giver. 5... leg s from swelling and these sock are the best I found they do what I wanted and needed ...I just found out that I have stage four cancer and I needed a way to keep my feet and leg s from swelling and these sock are the best I found they do what I wanted and needed them to to thank you Jim 5Finally found their purpose.I really liked the feel to these socks through out my ankle and calf, but created a blister on my toes due to the seems being so thick. Needless to say I only wore them once and investing my money on something different.UPDATE: I didn't like these socks for my workouts but post workout they are great. My legs were feeling really tight and sore after working out 5 days straight, decided to try on them on again, wore them through out the workday. Felt much better the next morning, may consider purchasing another pair. 4I work in the hospital and for 12 hours shifts ...I work in the hospital and for 12 hours shifts. Sometimes I'm on my feet all night and these socks really help with my leg soreness. Before I got these, my legs would be so sore, even after taking 800mg of Ibuprofen. Now, I can go my entire shift without having leg discomfort. It's well made and I'm definitely buying more pairs. Thanks! 5Nice Socks, just right amount of compression.These socks seemed to be what I needed for running.They compress the leg slightly, but not uncomfortably or dangerously. You can see slight marks form them on your foot and leg when you pull them off, but they don't cut off circulation.They fit pretty well, I'm 5'10, and when pulled all the way on, the top hem of the sock stops at just below knee level.I've only used them on 3 runs so far, but I think wearing them during and after runs is helping to stave off fatigue. 5These are awesome for my dads lymphedemaThese were for my dad and he loves them - they work great for his lymphedema!He was reluctant to wear compression stockings but with these he will actually wear them.He tried 3 others and they didn't compare to these!We ordered 2 more pair!!!Would definitely buy these again! 5Great work socksI stand at a workbench all day and have for many years. Even though I have anti-fatigue mats, as I have aged I have noticed more leg and back fatigue. A few months ago I began to experience some foot, ankle and lower leg edema by day's end. I decided to try compression socks before exploring other courses. I wish I had discovered these a long time ago! Since I wear work shoes, I went with an athletic rather than dress sock. These things are a bit of a struggle to get on in the morning, but do they ever work. My legs feel much better throughout the day and the edema no longer an issue. If your work keeps you on your feet all day, do yourself a favor and try these great socks. 5Not worth it.Not made well - heel wears out quickly creating holes in your socks. 2LOVE!!!This is one of the best purchases I've made in regards to my running routine. The socks are made of high-quality material (it's evident the moment you touch them) and they are nice and snug. It's a bit of a struggle to get them on, but it doesn't take more than a minute per foot if you are familiar with compression socks or stockings. Plus, they make your feet and calves feel amazing from the moment you put them on. They are extremely comfortable to wear and I highly recommend them to any jogger or runner, or even somebody who is just on their feet all day. I wore them for the first time during my run today, and they not only stayed all the way up, but prevented me from getting any shinsplints. Definitely buying a couple more pairs!***UPDATE***I just bought 2 more pairs 5Love these socksI absolutely love these socks. I tried various compression socks before- but by far these are the most comfortable.
