This is not Stevia or its very very old products ...This is not Stevia or its very very old products, I have used stevia for years and ordered from Bulk supplements more than a few times.I opened this and the powder got up into air and into my lungs, it is yellow I have taken pictures of normal an this package and they are clearly not the same product . I do not know if its old stevia or some other type of powder.I have taken pictures an I am going to get this yellow stuff lab tested. Please pull your old products in your warehouse as this is not real stevia. 1Southern Sweet Tea using SteviaI wanted to reduce my sugar intake I decided to try using pure stevia and bought the 100 gram Bulk Supplements package. Most of my sugar intake is in drinking sweet tea. I make my tea 2 gallons at a time using the 1 gallon size Lipton tea bags I buy at Sams Club and I use 1 cup of sugar per gallon. The tricky part in using stevia is a small change in the amount you use can have a major impact on the taste. It took a couple of months but I found the balance that makes GREAT sweet tea with half the sugar. I could not find a balance using pure stevia that was satisfying so I settled on reducing the sugar I used in half and it turns out to be a great compromise because the tea I make now actually tastes better than the tea using nothing but sugar. I brew my tea in a Mr Coffee coffee maker. I fill the coffee maker to the brim with water and tear open the 2 gallon size tea bags and pour the tea into coffee filter like I was making coffee. I set the brew strength to Strong and let it brew. In my 2 gallon tea container I add 1 cup of sugar. I then add the stevia. The amount is less than 1/2 teaspoon. To measure I scoop the stevia in to the 1/2 tsp measure and then scrape the top with rounded edge of a butter knife (not a serving knife, the butter knife that you never use now! LOL!) so it scoops out a depression in the 1/2 tsp measuring spoon then add it in with the sugar. I pour the hot tea in the container and swirl until the sugar is dissolved. I then add about 6 cups of ice and mix until the the tea is cooled. Then fill to the 2 gallon mark with water. It still amazes me how fresh the tea tastes using stevia as half of the sweetener. Even if I was not concerned with reducing sugar in my diet I would continue using the recipe because it tastes so good! The 100 gram package seems expensive but you use so little, this little package I would guess will equal 50 lbs of sugar so in reality it is a GREAT DEAL! 5Amazing Product and Company. Highly Recommended. This is the third time I have ordered this product. I rarely make reviews, but honestly this company deserves it.First, this is 100% Pure Stevia. It is processed, which means that it is mostly made up of the parts of the Stevia plant that we detect as "sweet". This is a good thing because unlike simply drying and powdering the leaf it helps the Stevia dissolve when used. This also helps reduce the bitter or off-putting taste that many people experience with Stevia. This can still happen if you use it in vast quantities, but more on that in a moment.Second, the service of this company is top notch. It is one of the reasons I come back here again and again and have even turned to them for other supplementation. Their products are not only some of the cheapest (if not THE cheapest around), their service is excellent--often arriving a day or two after the order is placed, and the Stevia itself is some of the best Stevia I have ever tried.Third, it should be noted that all Stevia products can develop an aftertaste if used in large quantities. One of the things that makes this product superior to all other brands that I have tried is that you can use more of the Stevia before this starts to happen. I use the Stevia mainly to make Sweet Tea which would normally require a lot of sugar. 1 teaspoon of Stevia Powder is roughly equal to 1 Cup of Sugar. So, to make my Sweet Tea I use 1 teaspoon of the Stevia Powder. Because I start to find Stevia develops an aftertaste after about 1 teaspoon and a half, I then use 1/4 teaspoon of Sucralose Powder, also purchased from the same company. That is all I need to make an entire gallon of Sweet Tea. As a result, purchasing this has saved me huge amounts of money as I do not have to purchase expensive artificial sweeteners that have a lot of bulk fillers. One 100 gram bag will last me months and months, roughly four to five to be exact. As a result, when I made my third purchase, I purchased an even larger bag.The only negative thing that I can say about this product deals with the bag itself. It can be rather difficult to get that last bit of Stevia out, but this is such a minor complaint that is not really even worthy of criticism.I cannot highly recommend this product and company enough. I plan to purchase more things from them in the future. 5DisgustingThe service I received from bulk supplements was great however this powder is not. It's disgusting. I guess I'd you're used to horribly strong chemical like tastes then this powder is probably the way to go for you but it tasted so bad in my batter for a baked good that I had to spit it out and rinse my mouth. I'm a chef, I'm no stranger to bad or odd flavors. I've never had to completely spit something out before. Just awful. 1100% better than any stevia product found in supermarkets!I've used many stevia products in the past. The liquids I found too diluted, so the cost was high (I am not very sensitive to the sweetness of stevia.) The powders for the most part were bulked in the past with some form of sugar, so that's no good on a low carb diet. Plus, some brands were bitter. Recently I switched to a stevia/erythritol mix packet, but it was too heavy on the sugar alcohol (only 70% the sweetness of sugar) and very light on the stevia. It was expensive, because I used so much of it.When I decided to try pure bulk stevia powder, I read mostly positive reviews but a few here and there that said it was either bitter or was so powdery, it puffed in the air. I've had neither of these problems. To make a huge mug of tea, I do use some erythritol, and then I have a tiny, tiny spoon set bought here on Amazon. I use the smallest "smidge" spoon filled level. It adds so much sweetness without bitterness! Yes, if you use way too much, it will taste bitter, but I use a lot without that problem. And I find that shaking down the old stevia packets puffed more stevia powder into the air than just gently opening this pouch and taking a little spoon out.I highly recommend this product. I'm going to be using this one bag for a very long time, and my tea tastes great! And when it's done, I'll be back for more! 5It's the "Real Deal" - Watch PortionsIf you've used other types/forms/brands of stevia, then you're probably going to be VERY surprised with the "real thing". It's extremely potent! It shows that there are 2500 portions in a 100gr bag. . . and that's probably true. Start by using just a tiny bit. Not more than a 16th of a teaspoon per-cup. . . and perhaps less. You will not believe how little you have to use. If you're used to using a "packet" of the "other stuff". . . .then please. . please. . .please. . . watch what you're doing. If you don't add enough, you can always add more. . . but. . .if you add too much, then you'll have to add more of whatever it is you're making such as coffee, tea, etc. What to put it in and how to dispense it can be problematic. You might try a salt shaker. . . but you certainly don't want something with a lot of holes, or large holes, as too much will be dispensed. Right now I'm using an individual salt spoon. These are tiny spoons, usually silver, used on "fancy" dining tables. I've been using sucralose (which I bought in bulk from Bulk Supplements - and yes, if you're interested in Sucralose (Splenda) you won't find a more affordable way to get it than through these guys. It's top notch. Look at my review of it from awhile ago)Anyway, there has been some research in the last year, several studies, that have found that possibly sucralose and aspartame, and definitely saccharin, while they don't have calories because we can't digest them, the bacteria in our gut do still eat them. Saccharin has been found to be delicious to a harmful strain of bacteria, and there is some preliminary evidence that *maybe* there is a lesser degree of problem with sucralose and aspartame, but I must emphasize, it's still early days, and the studies have been relatively small and much more research is needed. Anyway, the bacteria that these artificial sweeteners seem to feed is not beneficial, and may increase glucose intolerance, and may make it very hard to lose weight. Again, more research is needed, and the amounts of sweetener tested were basically at the max for what a human should consume in a day, so they tested a large amount to get those results and only tested it on a very small, limited population. That being said, my husband and I have been consuming a lot of sucralose in the last decade. And I also have a fondness for aspartame in diet soda. And neither one of us has been able to lose weight even though we have restricted our calories and both exercise. We don't need to lose a lot, but it's been an ongoing frustration for the last decade to lose anything. So, with this new research, they have also found that stevia, while being calorie free for humans, actually feeds a bacteria in our guts that is beneficial. I tried stevia long ago and didn't like the bitter aftertaste, but after reading the reviews on here for Bulk Supplements stevia, I thought I'd give it a try.All of the supplements from Bulk Supplements appear to be pure. Of course, I don't have my own lab for analysis, but they seem to be high quality. I know some people don't like anything from China, and they don't say where their sources come from, but they do seem pure, and you can't beat the price, either.Just look at how much a box of stevia costs in the little packets. It's outrageous, especially for people like my husband and I who drink tea and coffee and like it sweet. I did an analysis of the savings for sucralose by getting it in bulk and it was astonishing. (it might be in my review, I don't remember). I didn't do the same analysis with stevia, but a rough guesstimation seemed like it was much more affordable.I also like that it's 100% pure stevia. The label says it's 90% of the one chemical that is responsible for the sweetness, and the other 10% is parts of the stevia plant, in case that confuses you. So don't worry, it's pure stevia. Most of the ready packages you can buy of stevia have a lot of filler which I really don't want to pay for.The filler is nice for measuring it spoon for spoon like sugar, though. So I got this idea of combining my own filler with this pure stevia. My idea is combining it with a prebiotic, which will help the good bacteria in my gut by giving them a good food. So I ordered some pure powdered inulin but haven't mixed them together yet.For now, I'm using this pure stevia to sweeten my coffee and my husband's tea. For a gallon of tea, it doesn't take too much to get it pretty sweet, however, it takes about 3 times as much as straight, pure sucralose. Sucralose is over 600 times sweeter than sugar, and I think stevia is about 100-150 times sweeter than sugar.TASTE: When I opened the bag, I could instantly taste the stevia! It's pretty sweet! The trick is to make sure you use just the right amount, which takes some experimentation. If you use too much, it does make things bitter. I've been lucky and haven't used too much, so I haven't tasted the bitterness. And it doesn't taste like the stevia I tried about a decade ago that was icky, but wasn't pure, either. So it tastes sweet, but with the amount I used in my coffee, it's not quite as sweet as what I was having with sucralose. But that's not a problem because I usually over-sweetened with sucralose (and yes, it gets really bitter if you overdo it, too!). So it's pleasant and tastes fine. There is a very slight aftertaste but it isn't unpleasant or icky. I find that sugar leaves more of an aftertaste, actually. The bag that it comes in keeps the powder out of the light and keeps it dry, but I prefer to move some of it to a little metal canister (also keeps the light out) which is easier to open and close several times a day.It takes a bit to get it to dissolve in cool and cold liquids. It's not as bad as sugar, but not as quick to dissolve as sucralose. I think if the liquid were warm or hot it might be easier. But it just takes a bit extra time, so it's not a big deal.I am going to make a liquid concentrate to drop in my tea instead of the powder, but I haven't done it yet so I don't know what ratios would be good. Again, it's something to experiment with. Do You Even Science!? :DBottom Line: Bulk Supplements has been extremely reliable and affordable. I've ordered quite a few supplements from them and they all seem pure and seem to be exactly what I am expecting. And according to research, stevia is the best no calorie sweetener for your microbiome (all the little microbes that are part of you. Most of them are really helpful and you couldn't live easily without them, so treat them well!) and is actually beneficial as opposed to harmful. So even though the research is in its early days, it probably isn't a bad idea, especially if you're struggling to lose weight, to switch to it instead of other artificial sweeteners, or actual sugar. 5Terrible AftertasteI buy many products from Bulk Supplements and have always been pleased with them, but I suppose there is always an exception to the rule. This stevia powder is horrible! I have had bad stevia extract before, but the bitter aftertaste from this product is stronger than the sweetness. I recommend passing on this and ordering Now Better Stevia Organic Stevia Extract. The Now product has very little aftertaste unless used in very large quantities. Steer clear of this stuff! 1Can't shake that aftertasteThis is not a knock against the quality of the product or the service. I'm sure the quality of the product is very good and the speed of service was good as well. It's the taste I had a problem with.If you are like me and have never had pure stevia before, then I would suggest ordering the smallest package available. It doesn't seem to matter what amount of this product I use, it leaves a licorice like aftertaste. I mean I can simply dip the spoon in the package just to get some powder on the spoon, lick the spoon and still taste that aftertaste. For you people out there like me who drink Diet Coke. You know that aftertaste you get from Diet Coke, it last about 4 seconds, right? Well, I'm not making this up, the aftertaste on this stuff lasts a good 4 minutes. Put some on your finger, lick you finger, come back 4 minutes later and lick that finger again and you will get the same aftertaste. After only two days of using this product my mom is refusing to use any of it.The only way I am able to use it is to mix just that microscopic film of this product in with half the amount of pure honey I would normally use. (So, I'm really masking the taste of it with honey, which kind of defeats the point.) So, if there is a positive, it would be that this 3.5 ounce package is probably going to last me over a year and I'm going to save a lot on honey!I am giving it 2 stars because don't think its a bad quality product. I just think the product it too harsh in this form. 2The powder leaves a slightly bitter after-taste in my mouthThis is my first experience using Stevia powder, so I am not sure if the slightly unpleasant after taste exists in all Stevia powder products, or is a result of the manufacturing process of this particular brand. The first thing to learn is that a little goes a long way. That took a bit of getting used to, since my point of reference is white, granulated sugar. I have used it in shakes, home-made granola and baked goods. I'm still trying to figure out how to adjust recipes for it. Because it is so much less bulky than sugar, something has to be added to the recipe to maintain the original volume.I will try purchasing one of the other brands next time and see how it tastes by comparison. There are a few Stevia reviews I read (for competing products) where the reviewer said they liked the taste. I am trying to be fair. I read that the taste for new users takes some time to get used to. I've been using this for a month or two. I haven't noticed it tasting any better or worse. If that changes, I'll post an update to this review. 3
