Customer Reviews

Bitter snd unusable!I have been using stevia for years and decided to try this one given the great reviews and price. Unfortunately it is extremely bitter and ususable. Seriously it is the worst stevia I have ever used! 1It's a good value.A person can spend around $17.00 for a four ounce bottle of liquid stevia, or purchase this bag for around $38.00, and make about a dozen bottles from it. I can't really taste much sweetness in the available powdered stevia blends, but the liquid is pretty effective. This stuff is highly concentrated, and if it were used as though it was typical powdered stevia, it would probably leave your toes permanently curled. I mix a tablespoon of powder in 8oz of boiling water. After it's cooled, I put an ounce or so of Amaretto in it as a preservative, so it doesn't need to be refrigerated. I doubt if this is the official recommended recipe for mixing the stuff, but it works for me. 4Don't be fooled by other brands.I have tried to limit my sugar intake for most of my 65 years on planet earth. I am a health coach and in August of 2014 I stopped using all products that score high on the glycemic index (sugar, honey, molasses, etc, etc etc). That means I use only pure stevia. When other brands started adding ingredients to their "pure stevia" I switched over the BulkSupplements Pure Stevia. There Stevia is truely, Pure Stevia. If you look at the ingredients of most other companies, Stevia is the second ingredient listed...not the first. BulkSupplements Pure Stevia tastes great, dissolves well in hot beverages and blends into my Protein shakes beautifully. And...very importantly, when purchased in their larger sizes, you can save over 50% per ounce over any competition.Jan 2016 - I had to laugh when I saw my subject line from a previous purchase saying "Don't be fooled by other brands". I allowed a couple of dollar difference to get me to order from a different Bulk Stevia seller. I have paid for that for the past 3 months (because I purchase by either the half or full kilo at a time). Though the other Stevia was truly 100% Stevia: 1. It did not taste as good. 2. It took much more to sweeten everything (coffee, tea and smoothies) and... 3. It would not dissolve in hot drinks. So I have returned to Bulk Supplements Pure Stevia Power and I will not ,"...be fooled..." again. : ) And, incidentally, BulkSupplements was much cheaper this time too. 5Baffling sweetness and a good penny pincherThis product was a bit of a surprise for me. We had been purchasing a generic equivalent of Splenda for years. This was a weekly expense (yes we drink a lot of tea) that cost us roughly $7 per week. After reading negative reviews and medical information about the active ingredient in Splenda (sucralose) we tried the switch to Stevia. This product offered by BulkSupplements came in a bag that was slightly smaller than our weekly bag of sucralose product but alarmingly cost us 42 bucks. I thought wow I really screwed up. My wife then tried a teaspoon of the Stevia in a large pot of beans. BIG mistake. It was so incredibly sweet we had to keep adding things to make it eatable. We found we could sweeten a gallon of tea to our satisfaction with only a quarter of a teaspoon of Stevia. As it has been months since our purchase of this product we have barely scratched the surface of the container we keep our Stevia in. Our expenditure on this product was recouped in 6 weeks. The amazing revelation for me was, this single bag of product will likely last us 6 to 8 months unless we have a neighborhood Stevia party. I thought it important to share the baffling sweetening power of Stevia with my fellow Amazonians. Keep in mind that some find Stevia bitter to the taste buds. I haven't met anyone, but I've seen enough on line reaction to Stevia products to confirm this. All said and done, this is the most inexpensive method of purchasing refined Stevia. 5A little Bitter & doesn t dissolveThis is the first time I ve gotten a product from Bulk Supplements I didn t like. The stevia is a little bitter and doesn t dissolve well, at all in cool beverages. Maybe it s a poor quality shipment. I ve tried their stevia before and it was 5 stars. That was awhile ago. Think I may need to toss this stuff. It makes my morning coffee unpleasant. Who wants to go on, without a decent cup of coffee in the morning. 1No bitter taste like other brands I've tried - but you must compare all iingredients in various brands to make a far comparisonI've been a devoted stevia user for at least 5 years and have tried various brands, looking for the best price and quality. In the very early years I spent (crazily!) $100.00 for a pound. And no, it wasn't even labeled as organic, but the guy in Florida selling it online claimed it was the "best, purest, etc. etc. etc" available and worth every penny. To be honest, I think he was just a darn good salesman and was making every cent he could off uneducated people like myself who were new to using stevia. Then, I found the Now brand organic stevia here on Amazon. Used that for quite awhile (it's currently $55.00/lb.). Obviously the price was much better than the other brand and I found no difference between the two. Then, I did more searching and found stevia at Nuts.com. Way cheaper. They seemed like a reputable company (though shipping charges are a kicker if you aren't ordering much). Well, their stevia powder is much more bitter than the Now brand and did not dissolve in liquid easily. But I had a pound, and it takes me anywhere from one to one-and-a-half years to use up a pound, so I was stuck with the stuff. In my search to find a better tasting stevia powder - didn't want any more of the Nuts.com stuff! - and a little better price, I hesitantly ordered from Bulk Supplements. Just got my pound of stevia last week. I tried it and wow ... no bitter taste! I had a little of the Nuts.com stevia left to compare it to and the bitterness of it was very noticeable compared to Bulk Supplements stevia. My only bit of wondering about comparing "apples to apples" ingredient-wise is that this is what is on the Bulk Supplements stevia bag:Stevia Extract 90%Serving size: 40 milligramsAmount per serving:Stevia Extract: 40 mgSteviol Glycosides: 36 mg.Rebaudiosides: 22 mg.Other stevias I've used have listed different stevia "ingredients." So, investigation needs to be done to understand the ins and outs of the 3 stevia ingredients used in this product versus others on the market. For instance, you will find that some consumers feel Steviol Glycosides are not natural due to the method of processing - while others in the stevia industry are arguing this is not necessarily the case. (Just do a Google search and you'll see!)And for other reviewers who were upset that it comes from China - I cannot comment on that as there is no country of origin listed on the product label. I wonder why they don't have to list this on the label?? I guess a inquiry to the company is necessary to find this out.But for now, I am happy and until I discover that this stevia powder has something uniquely worrisome health-wise from others on the market, I'll stick with it.So far, I'm pleased with this pure stevia powder. 5Yellow Tinted & BitterI've been trying to find the best replacement for KAL stevia every since they added Maltodextrin. First, I tried quite a few and found that CCnature Organic Stevia Powder Extract was pretty close, but this one claimed to be close and was cheaper, so I thought I'd try the BulkSupplements one. First, when it arrived I noticed it was not white, but light yellow. I tried it and it tasted ok, so I put it in my yogurt, but I couldn't seem to get my yogurt to taste right even when I used just two scoops of it combined with sweetleaf liquid sweeterner to get it sweet enough to eat. By itself, it doesn't make the yogurt sweet enough and if you add more, it gets bitter and a sickening sweet chemical like flavor, so I'm just going to go back to CCnature Organic Stevia Powder Extract. 1Very Concentrated, use with care! Great for natural-product makers and individuals with self-control.BEFORE YOU READ: When I buy the 10g bag of Stevia in the RAW, I use 2-3 tablespoons for my coffee (I know, I'm a stevia junkie). For this product, I use a butter-knife to measure out a 1/2-1 PEA-SIZED little stevia hill, and it's very sweet. This requires some amount of self-control, trial and error to find what's too little and what's way way way way too much.Tastes great, looks great. Not the crystallized form, a very soft light powder. HOWEVER, this is stevia EXTRACT. I LOVE stevia, I put three packets of regular single serve into my coffee, however with this stuff I use a knife and use a PEA-SIZED amount and it's VERY VERY sweet. It's so highly concentrated that if you're looking at it thinking, "This couldn't be enough..." try that amount, because that may be too much. If you do not desire the responsibility of managing your serving sizes, this product is not for you. For those of you who can, this will last forever. For those who are using it to make natural products, like baked goods, protein powder, etc, it's perfect. A little goes the entire distance, so it's even more of an economic products. 5A comparison of the BulkSupplements stevia and one of equal popularity on Amazon, the Now Foods stevia formula. As a sugar -free vegan I use stevia daily and have sampled the majority of the popular stevia brands on the market. As always, BulkSupplements offers this stevia at a competitive price and after finishing off my last pound I purchased from Now Foods, I decided to go with this one as it was slightly cheaper. Comparing this powder to [ASIN:B005F9XFN0 Now Foods Organic stevia, White, 4 Ounce]] in terms of taste, I do prefer the Now Foods one. This one can have a sharp almost alcohol like after taste if not used sparingly. It also seems to bother my throat more noticeably than the Now Foods one. Nevertheless, it's well priced and I do like that it still contains no fillers or additives common in stevia (maltodextrin, dextrose, inulin, erythritol, xylitol, glycerin) so it certainly does deserve your consideration if you're looking to purchase stevia. 4No StarsOh, boy...where to start? How about: DON"T BUY THIS! I am going to throw it away, as I am afraid of what we might be ingesting. We have been buying Stevia from several different vendors for a few years now. Some have been cut with various sugars or sugar alcohols, but none of them tasted this BAD!!! I actually wondered if I had accidentally emptied some chemical cleaner or something into my stevia container. LOL. No, I checked the bag this stuff came in -- the same. Another review said that this product comes from China. Hmmm.... Last time I bought the stevia from Radiant Marketing here on Amazon and we liked it. What I didn't like was the thought of getting another 8 oz plastic jar, so I tried a bulk supply. Big mistake to buy the one from BulkSupplements! I JUST found the Radiant Marketing stevia in a 1 lb bag at a great price, so I will order it and put half into the Radiant plastic bottle, some into our "stevia bowl", and refill both from the bag. 1
