just okeythe shoe is okey dokey;but i wear a size eleven in womens and my toes hang over about an inch. now i totally screwed up my foot by breaking it right at midfoot; having an avulsion; a lipsinc fracture; tendons tearing away from the bone; and ligament damage. i was on crutches, cast, cam walker, and now this. this has all been a five month long ordeal. all that is to say, i now needed a shoe that will help the transition to 'normal heels.' for some reason, this shoe is too short, but not tight enough. i dont have the support i need. my birkenstocks cradle and secure my feet much better. i may wear this every now and then like for my recumbent bike, but not outside. i just dont feel supported (well in more ways than one.) ORDER A SIZE bigger for the gals...appreciate your feet:)veronica 3Impressive Shoe!I'm really impressed with this shoe. The price is unbeatable and the quality is very good. I noticed that some other reviews said it was a little too big. The Large size goes up to a 12 and the XL size is for 12-14. I wear a 13 Mens and the XL does have a couple of inches more on the toe area, but I like it because I don't hit my toes at all when I accidentally bump anything. It is very easy to walk in and is adjustable. I didn't have any trouble with it being too loose. I did notice a bit of a smell when I first opened the packaging. It is probably from the materials they used for the shoe and the smell does go away after a couple of days. It really feels comfortable for my foot as well as my toes. 5Runs SmallThis is a good shoe but it definitely runs small. I ordered a woman's Large & I wear an 8 to 8.5 shoe. This barely fits.See my picture.I'm giving the 3 stars based only on short length. Quality of shoe is 3Slippery and dangerousI got one hospital issued boot and I bought this Darco Med-Shoe as a second backup. So disappointed! The Darco is really thin and flimsy. Made in Cina. Not at all as sturdy as the picture might suggest. The velcro strips are not heavy duty at all. But worst of all: The sole is made of extremely slippery plastic. That beats the purpose! I do not want to fall again with that shoe!My old hospital boot has a real rubber finish to prevent slipping.I will try to find this hospital brand on-line. It is called "MaxTrax".Two thumbs down for 1VERY WELL BUILTEASY TO PUT ON, BETTER BUILT THEN OTHER BRANDS, THAT FALL APART AFTER TWO WEEKS....USED GORILLA GLUE ALL PURPOSE ADHESIVE UNTIL THESE ARRIVED. STILL WEARING DAILY AND ARE HOLDING UP WELL. USE THEM OUTDOORS AND EVEN FOR BIKE RIDING. WOULD BUY AGAIN AND RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. 4Great Post-op/Injury ShoeFirst off, let me say that my feet are wide (I've had 6 kids) but not chubby. A women's large fits my 9 wide foot perfectly with about an inch to spare on the end. It could definitely fit a chubby foot as well since I've got it cinched down as far as it will possibly go and could definitely go over bandages (which I don't have/need). I broke my pinkie toe badly enough that the top was turned out funny and I definitely needed something to wear besides a sturdy shoe (I couldn't have gotten my foot into one anyway because it was painful and swollen). I had a rocker-bottom boot from a previous injury on my other foot and that was the only thing I could wear for about 2 weeks because the toe was so painful and had to be wrapped just so to set. Sorry for the background info, now on to the shoe review: This is definitely not a rocker bottom (although it does have a slight curve and is 10 times better than those old blue velcro post-op shoes which are totally flat on the bottom. It offers MUCH more support than those and is more comfortable. However, I find myself having to walk funny because the bottom is pretty flat (again, there is a slight curve, but if you've worn a boot with a rocker bottom, it's nothing like that). The sole does have some give, so you're able to flex it and walk somewhat normally if you want to, but since my injury is in my toe, I end up walking with my foot sort of out sideways. I've taken to wearing this around the house now that my toe is half-way healed and it takes the pressure off like a boot does . . . it just doesn't walk as easily as a boot does. For a lot of walking a boot is definitely more comfortable. For around the house, this is great and I must add is highly adjustable because the ankle strap is REALLY long and the whole top flap of the shoe is velcro and can be taken off and the sides can be opened up completely. If you're looking to do a lot of walking, I'd definitely recommend a boot. But overall this is a great shoe for recovering from an injury and the price is SO much better than getting one from the doctor's office. The only improvement I would make to give it 5 stars is to make it a rocker-bottom. 4Great post-op shoe, glad it's on Amazon! As much as someone can like one of these shoes, I liked this one. I had a minor surgery on the bottom of my foot after a puncture wound, and I needed a shoe that could fit over the bandages. I'm normally a size 8-8.5, but with the ace wrap, bandages, and thick fuzzy socks for warmth, my foot was looking much larger than usual. I bought a size Large and it worked well with all the bandages, and still works well even though I've been able to reduce the bandaging to just an ace wrap and sock. It would be too big if I were to wear it with just a normal sock, but obviously that's not the point here! The adjustability is good with the velcro straps, and I was actually able to drive with this on once I got used to it. Overall, if you need a post-op shoe, I would definitely recommend this product. The availability on Amazon with Prime shipping was also super helpful -- I needed this shoe over the holidays, and all of the local medical supply shops were closed. I was so happy I could get it for a much lower price here on Amazon and not have to travel somewhere to get it. 5Great shoe, go with one size up for hammertoe surgeryI ordered this shoe, the same brand offered at my podiatrist s office, for post hammertoe surgery. Much cheaper than paying price in the office. I take 10 1/2 women s shoe and ordered women s large. It was not long enough to give me room past my toes to protect the toes with pins in them. Office kindly exchanged my shoe for a men s medium since it was same brand. So, be generous on size you order. I needed 2 shoes since both feet had hammertoe surgery. It s been 4 days since my surgery and the shoes are great. Easy on and off, sufficiently rigid sole, comfortable. Highly recommend.Ankle strap very long. Not a problem on right shoe since extra is hanging to the outside of the ankle. Shoe on left, though, because shoe is universal for left or right, has the extra on the inside of ankle and it was catching on the opposite shoe and coming undone. I took up some slack with a safety-pin (on the part of the strap before passing through the buckle) and solved that.Side view of shoe LOOKS like there is arch support but there isn t.Bottom of sole is almost perfectly flat; there s a small amount of upturn in the toe... if you put the shoe on a flat surface, the very tip of sole is 1/2 inch above the surface. Heel has small amount of bevel.Velcro flap on front of shoe can be turned around so you can make left and right appearing pair of shoes; ankle strap works only in one direction.Happy with shoes. 5Very helpful with broken toeI wish it had occurred to me to order one of these shoes a month ago, when I broke my little toe. I guess I really didn't expect to still be hobbling about in such pain, 4 whole weeks later! My canine companion hasn't been getting her fair share of walks, because I can only tolerate the pressure of my softest regular shoe for 30 minutes at the most. I've been working as home as much as possible, in bare feet, praying for the darned thing to heal. Now at least I can wear this surgical shoe on the injured foot, and a regular black sneaker on the other foot. Not the most fashionable get-up, but oodles more comfortable than any alternatives I've found so far! I particularly appreciate how quickly my order was shipped. The dog says thank you, as well! 4Perfect for what I neededI sprained/fractured my big toe over the weekend. Rather than going to the hospital where all they would do is splint it and tell me to use RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) I just came online and found this product and had it shipped with Prime. The sole of the shoe is hard and does not bend at all, so I can walk normally without worrying about my toes bending. The strap over the ankle and the flap that goes over the front of the foot are both soft, padded, and very comfortable. I was concerned about it possibly not fitting because I wear a size 14 4E, but the X Large fits perfectly with extra room. I could see this easily fitting someone at least up to size 16 4E.Shipping was fast, price was fair, and it is doing exactly what I wanted it to do. Can't ask for much better than that. 5
