Customer Reviews

It is ok - but I don't feel really safe using it by myselfI have rheumatoid arthritis. My disease has eaten away the fluid in my left knee, right elbow and right shoulder. (and it is working on my other joints) I had to start using a shower chair last year when it got literally impossible to shower while standing. I had an AquaSense shower chair before this one. The Aqua chair literally fell apart. I am a larger woman. I am under 275lbs and losing weight to get back to my original weight (so hard to do when you can't exercise/move well). Anyway - I wanted to find a chair that fit into regular bath tubs better then the Aqua chair. And I was hoping to find a chair that had a swivel feature. Our bathroom is extremely small and so it is hard to have anything sticking out of the tub - you know the chair you sit and slide. So, I decided to try this chair. My husband put the chair together. It was definitely super easy (no screwing in hardware). Just click into the slots and viola you have a chair. I could have put it together myself. The chair is super light in weight. And it doesn't take up much room in the tub. So, my husband can put it towards the back of the tub and he has plenty of room to shower himself. I think it will be fine to travel with since it can be taken apart easy.My issues with the chair. I don't really feel safe in the chair. Why? Well trying to sit and get comfortable is a wobbly situation. The seat is not really wide. It is a small round seat. If you don't have a big/wide behind - well you might not have an issue with the seat. I did like the Aqua chair for this issue because the seat was a wide seat. But, that is not the only issue I have. The swivel seat is kind of not fun at all. There is a plastic white lip you have to push down to swivel. When you are sitting on the chair and try to use this feature - it is hard for someone with arthritic hands to push on this lip. And I can't get it to work for me while trying to use the lip/handle feature. Now - it does swivel on its own for me. Yes - on its own! I have to try to turn myself to get out of the tub (I can't just stand up and step out). So, when I do this - the seat likes to unclick and swivel - which makes it really exciting when you are not ready to swivel. The seat can pinch your skin if you don't be careful or sit right - I have said ouch quite a few times. So - because of my issues I am going to purchase another Aqua chair. But, I am going to keep this chair for when we travel. A lot of hotel handicap bathrooms do not have chairs to sit on (plus I really don't want to share the seat with hundreds of other rear ends).I could see it working better for someone who can stand up on their own and get out of the tub without too much trouble. Or, if you have a walk in shower area. But, if you are like most of us out there - and have a basic tub with a side you have to lift your legs over - then consider some of my issues before spending the money.I will say it is well made and the thought of the design put into it - is good.*** UPDATE - I should have given it more time. I know like it a lot better. I lost quite a bit of weight - so my behind fits on the chair. I am also liking the swivel top. Once I took my time, and figured out how to use it properly I decided this is the chair I like the best. Now, I have had this chair a long time and it is still doing its job. It has not fallen apart like the Aqua chair. The Aqua chair would only last me a few months at a time. This chair fits in my tub better. So, I am now very pleased with my purchase. I even bought a back up chair (another one of these) to use in the kitchen to sit on so I can do dishes. 3Excellent Product with More Features Than OthersJust what I was seeking for my 98-year-old mother! This stool can sit several inches higher than others, making it easier for her to reach the sink; the four legs make it safer than those with only three, and the swivel seat rotates very smoothly. The seating area is slightly smaller than another one she'd been using, but it's adequate. My only complaint (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that there is no way to disable the swivel lock other than breaking off the paddle the user lifts to release it. When the seat is swiveled 1/4 turn, it locks, and my mother's dementia prevents her from learning how to release it. Add an option to enable/disable it, and this stool will be pretty close to perfect. 4Do NOT recommend! This looks like a nice stool and feels sturdy, however the bracket that goes between the legs and holds the legs together constantly falls off. It only snaps in with very short clips. Any movement you do to the seat causes the bracket to fall off. Just picking up the seat will cause it to fall off. After it falls off, the whole thing becomes completely unstable. The legs will start to do the "splits." This is extremely dangerous especially for someone who has had a surgery that keeps them from being able to put any weight on a foot, leg or anything else. Once the bracket falls off you either have to get someone else to put the bracket back on while you stand up on ONE leg in the WET shower or get yourself out of the shower and find a way to put it back on yourself. If you tried to finish your shower without the bracket installed you could end up on the shower floor possibly injured. I would not get this until the company finds a better way to keep the bracket attached. The other bad part is the swivel seat. It rides on plastic. The outer edges of the seat get pressed down while you sit on it and this almost makes it impossible to raise up the clip that enables you to rotate. The seat is always locked unless you raise the clip up. The first time I raised the clip up to rotate the seat, the clip completely broke under the seat. Not worth going thru the effort to return it. I do NOT recommend this seat. 1Beware of this probuctBeware!! I baught this bath stool and my second time useing it, it crumbled underneath me. I wasnt moveing I was just sitting there in the shower. The weight limit said that it holds 450 lbs. This is not true as I am a good 100lbs under that. This didn't just snap but it crumbled underneath me breaking into many smaller pieces smashing me into the shower wall injuring my back, my head and my legs! I would not have checked any start but it left me no choice. 1Very sturdy!!!Recommended by occup therapist for 89 yr old mom to take showers. I didnt have a great opinion of this until it arrived and i put it together. Honestly wasnt impressed by the pic. Wow. This little thing is like a tank. He legs really lock in securely. 4 legs lock under the seat, and the little ledge / shelf locks into the legs. Easy to do, but all pieces lock very tightly. Not flimsy at all. And there is a small tab on the side of the blue seat, that you press that swivels the seat. Then easier to swing legs out of tub. This is the 4th Drive product I ve purchased for her, and I just love the brand. They really have good products that can help with physical challenges. It s a blessing really. Worth every penny to have piece of mind that the product does what it says.Side note: 1st one was delivered and a leg was broken (I think it was returned to Amazon by someone else and wasn t double checked before re-shipped out to me). Replacement received in 3 days. Email received with postage paid return label. Stuff happens. I get that. It was a quick turn around by Amazon to remedy the situation. I appreciate that they stand behind what they sell. 5Unbearable Odor From Foam SeatThe foam seat on this has an intolerable awful moldy type odor. I have kept it outdoors for over a week and it still reeks. I can't find who to contact for a refund or if this is an anomaly, a replacement. It seems sturdy but cannot tolerate the smell. Who can help me with this? 1Excellent product for the price and easy assembly!I know some of the other reviews have not been as kind, saying the shelf underneath won't stay connected and the stool is flimsy. I found none of that to be true and wonder if the person submitting the review just did not assemble the stool correctly. I found it very easy to put together and used it the very day it was delivered. It fits in the bathtub as if it was made specifically for me and I felt very comfortable using it. I just had knee surgery and was looking for something to help me as I took showers and this is for ladies - my first use was to sit on it in order to shave my legs! It worked perfectly! In fact, as a lazy person, I may continue to use it just for that purpose even after my knee is fully recovered. I liked having the rotating seat feature and the shelf, but found putting the stool in the center of the tub enabled me to reach around to all four corners without any problem at all. I would highly recommend this product if you are looking for a simple solution to showering or getting use of a tub after surgery or other issue. I found it to be sturdy and just what I was needing! 5Handy multi-use stoolI have been using this stool in the shower for over a year now. It fits nicely inside the bathtub. It's sturdy and helps me deal with a bad knee & bad back. But I also use it outside of the shower, whenever I have to do a task that I'd normally have to stand for some time, which would cause me a lot of pain, like washing dishes. The adjustable height is great for doing different tasks. The only reason I didn't give this stool 5 stars is because of the difficulty I had (I expected it after reading other reviews) in attaching the legs when I originally set it up. Two legs snapped together easily, but two were impossible for me. I gave them to my neighbor who banged them in with a mallet. Now they work fine. Seriously, you shouldn't have to brute force an assembly. Some quality control at the factory could have eliminated this. But they're together now, and working fine. Also a minor quibble is that the bottom shelf pops out whenever I move it, so I'm constantly having to pop it back into the holders on the legs. Not really a big deal. Just a minor annoyance.Oh and the top pad pops off easily to allow the stool to dry after the shower, and pops back on just as easily. I've never had a problem with mold, because I make sure I air dry it every time. I don't know why some people are complaining about it. This isn't rocket science. ;) 4I purchased this shower chair anticipating rotator cuff surgery. ...I purchased this shower chair anticipating rotator cuff surgery. I knew that it would be months before I'd be able to get in and out of tub, so showering would be the alternative. Since my dominant arm was going to be out of commission, it seemed inevitable that showering was going to be a challenge.Months later, the surgery was quite a success, though of course not quite the original condition. This chair though! Woot! It helped to keep me feeling secure during recovery and as I continued to heal, I wondered why I hadn't thought of it years ago. It's very secure on the floor, no wobbling. While washing it provides an 'at hands' reach for body wash, shampoo, etc. When taking care of the legs, I can use it to rest foot, saving having to 'long reach down' which the shoulder no longer appreciates.I actually do sit on the chair when using a moisturizing scrub on feet/legs, then just rinse off with the hand held shower. I may never use the bath again! 5UPDATE_ NOT ANY MORE! (Small buy Mighty Seat)UPDATE: Aug 4, 2019. 4 of the 8 screws have rusted and I no longer feel safe sitting on this seat. I want to contact DRIVE MEDICAL for a refund or replacement-but can't find info. Don't waste your money!! If I hear from them, I'll update this again. Save your money and get something else! This seat is great. It fits in the smaller sized tub just fine and holds over 350 with ease. The measurements are true and we've had no issues so far. Have had for awhile now with no issues. Person using it states that they feel confident in sitting on it and can shower with ease and not have to worry about it breaking or tipping. It is quite hard to use the lever to try to get it to swivel-which is actually a good thing. The swivel lock is sturdy and really not needed. The seat can become a little slippery if soap gets on it first, so be a little careful at first. But all is good. Glad we purchased it. 1
