A must have for a patient in a hospital bed at home.....I bought this for my Dad who has been bed ridden for almost a year. He had one of these and a hospital bed supplied by the home health company and paid for by the insurance. Anyone who has ever been to the hospital knows how important this table is for someone in a hospital bed. Two months ago, then insurance said they would not pay for the table and bed anymore. So there was a mad dash to find him a new bed we could afford and the table. I wanted him to have something brand new for a table if we could afford it. My Mom found a used bed and I decided to try this table. It was packaged nice and came on time without any scratches. My nephew and cousin put it together and said that it was a little hard but it does take two people to put it together. I was not there for this, so I can not attest to how hard it was. Once it was together, it worked great. My Dad is still happy with it and we have no complaints about it. I was happy to find an affordable - hospital grade table for him. We highly recommend this table. 5Budget overbed table with pros and consLast Oct I bought another brand of this type of table for my aging mother. It was about $25 dollars more. It was so versatile and well built I decided to get one for myself to use with tablets and laptops while in bed. I ordered this budget brand for comparison:Positives:The instructions have been revised from the old reviews, it is now clear and straightforward. Assembly took 10-15 minutes max.The frame s build quality seems stable enough to hold up 20-25 pounds for an extended period.Rolls smoothly on its included 2 castors.Table top of 15x30 is generous for most items like laptops, tablets, food trays, etc.Negatives;Tabletop has no lip, no protective bumper for the edges.Tabletop veneer doesn t seem to be coated with enough protectant. If you spill any liquids on it, the pressed wood may expand and puff out of the edged seams.Lever only works to lock down the position going DOWN ( the other brand locks it in both DOWN and UP positions ) This table is made so the upper adjustments are achieved with a slight upward pull, but hitting the table accidentally with your knees can cause it to move upwards, imagine hot soup or coffee sitting near the edge of the table, could be a bad scene. While rolling the cart, the rod makes an annoying rattling sound within the column.I m giving it 4 stars because it s still a stellar value for my needs, but there are models for $20 -25 more that s built more robustly, with a dual lock height latch, edge protective bumper, and better tabletop thickness and stonger sealant. 4Drive should know better than to release a table with no height lockfrom a company that makes so many medical devices this is a bad design that needs major improvement in the height adjustment mechanism. I expected a table that was not hospital grade and the materials used are pretty good.. the steel is thick and wheels are large enough.. but the lift mechanism has no way to lock the table in place. A slight pressure under the table like your knee hitting it while you are in bed will make the table jump a couple inches up. Yes I tightened the screws and replaced the one that is used for shipping.. the fact is they never thought of adding a height lock to this table but someone could get hurt if they are eating hot food or coffee and their knee taps the bottom of the table.. it will jump a good 2 to 4 inches.I had other issues with this table but I can not post them here.. they keep blocking my review when I talk about them but it those issues were not with the manufacture of the table.I ended up getting another table here that has screw adjusters. it is a manual height adjustment but the height is fixed at whatever height you set it at. It is much safer and thats what matters when someone is already in a bed due to injury or illness.. not to do more harm to them. 1Poor quality control -- one of the tables I ordered does not work wellMy original review was five stars (see below) but I'm taking it down to three because the second one I bought has a major flaw. It's difficult to move it up and down and there's a scraping sound, like there's some kind of debris down inside the column. I thought it might get better with time, but it didn't. The first one I bought works much more smoothly.I use two of these side by side as an extended standing desk, using my TV (connected by long HDMI cable) as my monitor. Each one is set at a different height -- one is set to be ergonomically ideal for using the keyboard and the other for my mouse and for grading papers (I'm a high school teacher). I tried using just one at first, but there wasn't quite enough room on the surface for everything I wanted. I like being able to easily move these out of the way when company comes to my small apartment. I also sometimes slide one down to be used when I'm sitting on the couch. 3Difficult to adjust, doesn't work according to description My understanding of the ability to lower/raise the table was that it would take a fairly light touch but that is not at all the amount of pressure I have found that it takes to adjust this table. Was severely resistant and made scraping metal-on-metal noise with every movement. We checked every screw and connection in an attempt to loosen something up, make it move more easily, to no avail.I would definitely advise anyone with an issue that compromises strength in the arms or hands (e.g., older persons, those with joint pain, etc) to understand that you're most likely going to have significant difficulty using this product to its intended capacity. It could be just my individual table (got one with ill fitted pieces) but I wouldn't count on it. See video for demonstration of the above. 2I'm completely satisfied with myself for going ahead with this purchaseI'm completely satisfied with myself for going ahead with this purchase. The reviews weren't quite up to par with how I usually make my amazon purchase decisions. So, I decided to try this anyway and I'm quite happy with it.Assembly should have taken about 10 minutes. It took 15 because of the last screw.... which was in very tightly and I had to retrieve a specific bit for my screwdriver. The table moves up and down just like the instructions say it will - with a bit of force from on top of the desk or directly underneath it. It's not friction less but I don't see that to be a real issue.I'm not exactly looking at the reviews at the moment but if I recall correctly:1 - many people said that the instructions were difficult to understand.I disagree. Perhaps I was sent better instructions. It's all on a two sided piece of thick paper, one side of which contains exactly what needs to be done, if in too many words. They could really do with shortening the paragraphs. Basically, they want to make very sure that you know you are dealing with very specific pieces.2 - a few people said that they removed the wrong screw or some nonsense. I'm not sure how or why they would do that. One sticker, clearly marked, says do not remove. So, don't remove it. 5I'm the fool who bought it twiceSo we had the older version, bought in late 2017. I really did love it. About a year into it, the mechanism to raise/lower it broke. Now it's just being used as a bedside table. So then I ordered the same one again, thinking, hey, I got a bad one.The updated model had no raised edge so every time you pull or push it, whatever is on it goes sliding... And slides right OFF. Too many drink spills to count.6 weeks in, the support bar became incredibly wiggly. My husband tightened it. It seemed to solve the issue...For about 2 weeks. Now it's wiggly again, and he has tried to tighten it to no avail.Just a word on Drive Medical products:We own the Transport WheelchairThe Rollator with the seatAnd two of these dadgum broken tables. My rollator came broken. And as you probably have heard, is not returnable. Two bad hospital tables. So far the transport chair is ok but there is a major design flaw in the foot rests and your heels WILL get whacked by the wheels on turns. You get what you pay for, folks. Sad but true. 1Would have rated 2 stars if this was more expensiveI want to start by saying for $44, I didn't expect a commercial quality piece of equipment. But, there are some flaws on this table that I don't think are specific to the one I got because I see other reviewers have mentioned them as well.1) It's a little tricky to put together, but directions are accurate and if you just take your time, you'll be fine. I'm about a "C" grade when it comes to mechanical ability, and I still managed it alone in a little less than an hour.2) The raising/lowering mechanism that is inside the vertical post rattles around to the point it sounds like it's broken, even when it isn't. I try to ignore it, but it sounds unstable. And my biggest disappointment is...3) You cannot move this table without disengaging the locking mechanism, causing the top to pop to the highest position. I do beading work, so this REALLY ticked me off the first two times it happened. After that, I was prepared and removed *everything* from the top then slowly and carefully moved the table by grasping the vertical post and resting one hand on the top. Even then, sometimes it pops up.A few other cautions:- This will not roll on rugs plusher than a Berber or VERY short pile carpet. The casters are hard plastic and if I had nice hardwood floors I'd worry about scratching. I'd look for better casters, but the overall price of the item doesn't warrant the trouble.- I don't recommend putting anything heavier than 10 lbs on the end of the table away from the support -- anything heavier should be placed on the end right above the vertical bar. 3NIGHTMARE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!Wondered if they were even the for the right product. My poor uncle is disabled and he was lost. I am not disabled , and I was even more lost (and frustrated) as to how this thing fits together.. No internet access at his apartment so I had to drive 20 miles to try to figure it out. Why not send the correct instructions to begin with to save the aggravation and stress!!!!!I have no idea if it even works because I have to drive 45 minutes in rush over for second attempt to put together after getting instructions online. 1ABSOLUTE GARBAGETHIS IS THE WORST TRAY I HAVE EVER SEEN. I HAVE USED IT FOR 1 WEEK SO FAR AND THE TRIM AROUND THE EDGING IS FALLING OFF.THE TABLE IS FLIMSY AND NOY STURDY AT ALL. THE LATCH THAT LOWERS/RAISES THE TABLE BARELY WORKS. IT GOES HIGHER WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING IT SENDING YOUR STUFF EVERYWHERE. TRYING TO LOWER IT IS A JOKE. YOU HAVE TO PUT ALL YOUR WEIGHT IN IT TO DO SO.I CONTACTED COMPANY NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. NOW I AM STUCK WITH THIS PIECES OF CRAP AND OUT ALL THAT MONEY! 1
