Virtually perfect solution for shoulder support.A godsend! I separated my shoulder in 2010 and for a very. very long time, I was afraid I was not going to recover full use of it and my upper body. Slowly, I inched towards repair and recovery, but there was always pain when I pushed too hard or moved too fast. Finally, I ordered the predecessor of this brace, the SB02. It worked wonders, relieving stress and reducing pain. I made it part of my workout routine, and it really helped. The SB02, though, had a few problems: the Velcro strap on the arm rubbed against the skin directly, causing irritation; the one on the chest would easily lose its ability to stick. I ended up using safety pins to hold it in place - not an ideal solution. After a long while, the SB02 became frayed and I ordered the replacement. What do you know, the only gripes I had with the old model had been fixed. The SB03 has much better straps and a much improved attachment. Also, the neoprene of which it is made is much softer and stretchier. But wait! There is more! The new material also dries out faster. Which is important, because you really need to rinse it if you sweat during your workouts (and if you don't, why do you work out again?).Useful tip: after a while (every months or so) you want to reverse the chest attachment strap. Untying is not good for any Velcro in the long run, and the back side never gets unstrapped. So by reversing the strap, you ensure even wear and double the life span of your SB03. 5Rotator cuff and arthritis pain minimized!Great product! My husband strained his rotator cuff and has arthritis in his shoulder. His work is physically demanding on his shoulder, so I bought him this. The pain in his shoulder is greatly decreased! Before he wore this, he had to come home and ice/heat his shoulder all night and could not sleep because of the pain. With chiropractic care and this brace, he has minimal pain! 5Had hi hopesI had tried a different brace first but didn't like the way it cut under the are. Saw theach design of this and thought it would work much better. It did for a couple months but then the material that the velcro sticks to wore out and now I can't keep it strapped around my chest rendering it useless. If that problem could be fixed it would be a decent brace. I used mine pretty frequently...5 days a week in the gym. Major design flaw. 1This is the brace to get if you need shoulder supportI've had multiple shoulder separations/dislocations, had them surgically reconstructed twice, and recently dislocated/separated my shoulder again. Just walking around hurts and I can't hold more than about 5 lbs before my shoulder subluxates without a sling or brace. I've tried numerous braces and the SB03 is the brace to get if you've got shoulder dislocation, subluxation, separation, torn rotator cuff, and/or damaged ligaments & tendons as it provides effective support and preserves enough range of motion to still be functional. I find this brace significantly more comfortable and supportive than even a sling. The brace is constructed of neoprene and you will sweat if you are exerting yourself at all so I wear a t-shirt under it. I appreciate the adjustable arm closure: as other reviewers have stated - it might need readjusting if you are using arm muscles much or wearing it for long periods. The construction is much heavier duty than typical shoulder braces. The body/straps/x-brace are all made of heavy neoprene to which velcro will stick everywhere. The strap ends are all heavy duty velcro with rubber covers (the rubber covers are on the front and back sides of the chest strap closures and all four ends of the x-brace straps). The rubber covers are thick enough that you will notice them if you lean or lie against something firm. If you have shoulder pain/instability to appreciate this brace, you will look at any such discomfort from a hot brace with firm closures as a small price to pay for the joint support. If you've got two bad shoulders, it is possible to wear two of these braces - keep in mind that the overlapping chest straps would be akin to wearing an 8mm wet suit so your upper torso would be toasty and well supported.I'm borderline L/XL according to the size chart: around 6', 200lbs, with a 34" waist and a 43-44" chest measured around the ribs just under the pecs (usually wear a 44-46" jacket). I found the size Large to be just big enough, tight and supportive. I have the pecs of someone who benches a lot and the girls in my fitness classes regularly joke that I'm a A- cup size. You will find one side of the wide chest strap is firm across the chest (acting to flatten/pushup) and the other side has a triangle shaped cutout that your pec will stick out (providing firm support everywhere but the 'cup' area). If I was female with a larger cup size, I can't imagine something designed to provide more lopsided chest support and I'd likely invest in very supportive sports bras if I needed the relief of this shoulder brace. I've found the braces that have a single chest strap are not nearly as supportive but can usually go above the chest. The brace can be worn under dress clothes and is very supportive for manual labor, walking, running, biking, and weight lifting. It holds the shoulder firmly in the socket and still provides for some overhead motion. It is possible to play racquet sports, basketball, volleyball, and throw while wearing the brace but it does restrict motion somewhat. If you have enough shoulder pain/instability to require such a brace, you probably won't think it's too bad. I don't think you can find a brace that is supportive and completely unrestrictive but the x-strap is somewhat adjustable, enabling some tradeoffs in support and motion.Once adjusted, the brace can be slid up the arm, rolled over the shoulder, and put on/off using only the chest strap velcro closure. You may want to avoid tearing the velcro apart and instead gently peel it off to minimize wear on the hook/loop closures. One reviewer suggested flipping/reversing the chest strap closure to distribute wear and I think this is a good idea monthly. The neoprene gets sopping wet with exertion and I air-dry it daily and run it through the wash weekly on the gentle cycle in a mesh bag (to avoid it getting stuck to other clothing). This brace works well enough that I'm considering putting off another shoulder reconstruction despite my complete AC joint separation and continued issues with dislocation without the brace. Surgery has been very effective for me in the past, but the first few months of recovery from surgery are rough and it wasn't until about 12 months of really hard rehab that I started to enjoy the benefits of surgery. This brace allows a pretty active lifestyle and I'd even wear it at night if I had trouble sleeping on my back. The SB02 is the same brace but without the x-strap and is significantly less supportive, but with less restrictive motion - you can remove the x-strap from the SB03 so I don't think I'd buy the SB02 unless I needed a second brace for light support: perhaps sleeping or under dress clothes. The SB04 is the same as the SB03 but the x-strap has a padded hard shield. The hard plastic shield of the SB04 can provide firmer compression of the shoulder joint if you need more support than the SBO3 but your satisfaction with it will depend somewhat on the shape of your shoulder as the shield is not very flexible. I'd recommend the SB04 if your shoulder is sensitive to impacts and you are doing dirtbiking/motocross, bmx, mountain biking, horse riding, or some form of martial arts/contact sports. Otherwise you probably don't need the SB04 unless the SB03 isn't supportive enough for you. The SB05 is a double SB02 (to which you could add the x-strap from the SB03 or shielded X-strap from the SBO4). The SBO2/SB05/SB03 can be worn under football shoulder pads without too much discomfort (you might notice the rubber velcro covers more with shoulder pads over top of them, particularly the upper x-strap ends), but the shield on the SB04 would be like having an extra hard pad under the shoulder pads. 5Looks Cool, Great Support...but Poor QualityOkay 1st off I really loved the support it gave my shoulder for the 10 hours of use, it pulled it up at kept it there (I'm am having rotator cuff surgery this fall) while i was working. It was a little warm but come on guys it is a brace I did expect that. Of course you'll need somebody to help you put it on, that's just the nature of shoulder braces. Now to the bad part, unfortunately the first size I purchased was great across the chest but, the arm was very tight. I received the large and after the above stated 10 hours or so it was falling apart, the neoprene was peeling, the seams tore in several places and it had stretched a bit too much for such short use. I think if they would just finish the material and reinforce the stress points this thing would be number one! 3Some people may need to size up.The only reason I m deducting a star is because of fit. My chest measures 38.5 , so I ordered a medium as the chart suggested for 36/40 chest. Around the chest it was pretty snug, with the adjustment strap as loose as it could be without leaving the hard velcro hanging off the edge. It was very difficult to get my arm though the hole, and once in, was so tight it was cutting off circulation, with the adjustment strap completely loosened. My bicep measures 13.5 (relaxed), and the armhole in the medium was much too tight. I ordered a large before returning the medium, and the overall fit is much better, still plenty of adjustment to fit the chest, and much more comfortable around the arm. Hopefully they will revise this product to provide more adjustment around the arm. In the meantime it would be very helpful if they provided a range of bicep measurements to the fit chart, as other reviewers have had the same issue. Not thrilled that I had to pay return shipping for this when I did everything I could to ensure I ordered the correct size. Being able to adjust the amount of support on the shoulder is great, and I feel much better, more supported in this brace than I do in a sling. Looking forward to wearing it while healing from a grade 1 AC separation, and when I start riding my mountain bike again (which is how the injury occurred) to provide some support. 4I was uncertain if I would like this productI choose to wait almost a month before writing this review. I was uncertain if I would like this product, but let me say that I have loved it!The backstory:I'm double jointed in my left shoulder and it has always been weaker, requiring more attention while working out. On December 15th, I was doing decline dumbell presses and did not keep my mind on my last heavy set. In losing concentration, I dislocated my shoulder while holding 70#s in that hand. This bruised and hurt the shoulder quite a bit. I ordered this brace on Tuesday, with the expectation that it would work and I would return it. I received it Wednesday, and went to workout.I went to the gym and was careful with the shoulder, but not easy on the muscles. I found while wearing the brace, I could do more dips with less shoulder pain that previous attempts. I find that pull-ups do not aggravate the shoulder vs not wearing the brace. Simple things, like driving, do not tire out my shoulder while wearing the brace. Plus, people ask about it all the time because it kinda makes you look like Mad Max when you wear it out in public. My only two complaints are these:1. I bought a large, per the size recommendations. However, the strap and loop for tightening around the bicep never sits right and the bottom side of the cuff near the armpit always cuts into my arm (even when the strap is undone). Its not terrible, but it can be quite irritating.2. The provided velcro strap does not always keep the brace as tight around the chest as I prefer when working out. I'm sure that it was not designed to do so, so I place the strap on the bottom of the brace and I'll probably find another piece of hook velcro to pull and tighten the diagonal straps.Otherwise, I highly recommend this brace. I'm hoping to avoid surgery for as long as I can and the brace seems to be helping me with that goal! 5Best brace for shoulder rehab. This brace is fantastic! I've tried a couple other braces and returned them immediately because they did not offer any actual support; basically only compression. This EVS brace does both. Prior to this brace, I've tried the Shock Doctor brace which I thought would be good since I have a few of their products for hockey. Again, it just did not offer the support I was looking for. I tired the McDavid brace and it was awful. It fit way too loose and offered little to no support with only slight compression (plus it's $30 more than EVS). I'm pretty active and workout 5-6 times a week. I tore my rotator cuff and was looking to find a brace to help me rehab it without having to sacrifice mobility and range (I needed the muscles to get stronger as well as heal). With the velcro attachment around the shoulder I get exactly that. I can stretch the strap to increase support for when I am doing exercises like dumbbell bench presses. I have a history of injuring my rotator cuff, so I am happy I found something to offer me the compression and support while I train. I wear a 42 in a suit jacket and the Large fit me just fine. 5It helps but not as much as I was hoping for.I'm basing this review off of my experience with the brace helping me recover from a separated should (AC tear), and I found it to be moderately helpful but far from game-changing in helping me heal.I found that I was not able to wear it all the time, as the neoprene will make you sweat something fierce after about half an hour. A loose shirt will for the most part hide the brace underneath, but without an undershirt you will eventually get distinct straight-line sweat marks on the chest and back of your shirt.I also did not like it while working out. My workouts are mostly weightlifting oriented with running afterward. The bracing effect of this product actually wore my shoulder out faster, and so I found myself taking it off mid-workout. Since I'm still recovering, I'm doing lighter weight lifting anyway and I don't worry about weakness in my shoulder/collarbone. I haven't tried more dynamic workouts such as basketball or P90X, so perhaps the shoulder brace might work better in those types of workouts, although I will say it's restrictive in raising your arm above the shoulder. What I found this most helpful for is post-workout. It's full-shoulder compression reduces inflammation, and I find myself loving the added X-shaped compression thing. It's fully adjustable so even though the picture shows it on the outside of the shoulder, I have moved it to the top of the shoulder to better compress the collarbone joint (the brace by itself doesn't provide much compression of this area). While I'm disappointed in it's limited use for my particular injury, I admit the AC joint is a difficult thing to try to brace. I would probably buy this again, especially if I had different shoulder injury such as a rotator cuff.Once last thing- I did find the arm part of the brace to be a little tight. The part of the arm that the sleeve ends (right above the bicep crown), I have 19 inches around, and the size large seems to feel like it's cutting circulation just a little bit. You can adjust the bottom of the sleeve to a wide range of sizes, but on the inside of the bicep it always seemed to dig in a little, as if the sleeve strap doesn't adjust the full sleeve. Since I now rarely wear it more than an hour It's not too bad, but if you have particularly large arms you should consider the sleeve when buying your size. 3Excellent quality, good support, very helpful for AC separation injuriesI purchased this to help me return to activity with my grade 3 AC separation which happened 4 months ago. My shoulder is still unstable, and while I'm waiting for surgery I'm going stir crazy not able to do the things in my lifestyle. I've only used the brace to play soccer, and it's done a great job of stabilizing things while running. Yeah it's a little warm, I played on a 90 degree day on artificial turf (which gets hot !) and a tight fitting shirt underneath to prevent chaffing on the arm. It was warmer than just wearing a jersey, but was manageable and allowed me to play a full match.Don't buy this thinking it will make your injured shoulder like new, still need to use discretion, but it certainly helps to lift and stabilize the joint. 5
