This is the real truth.I can't say enough about this brace. I have been seeing my doctor and getting ready for surgery on my left hand, the pain was very bad and I was facing a long road after surgery. I was looking on line for something that would help with the pain and came across this brace. For me it was God sent. Not only did it help the pain it helped my hand or my thumb I should say hand and thumb. I don't have to have the surgery for now and I hope forever. I wear it while I work and just setting around the house. I am going to buy one for my other hand. I also told my nice about this brace because of her hand. She got this brace and feels the same as I do. Her pain is gone and she to is putting of her surgery for now. I know so many of these kinds of things come around all the time and all they want is your money. But this brace is the real thing, for me. I hope this helps, I know what being i n pain is. Try it, it truly may help you as much as it helped me, I pray so. 5FLA has issues but it is still great for the work I doI would give this brace 5 stars if it didn't have the wear issues. That said, I bought a second FLA. I had the same strap issues with my first that many people revile here. I used gray gorilla tape to repair the 1st brace while I break in my second. Having taped the thumb closed on the first brace I have discovered that I never need to open the thumb velcro to put the brace on or to take it off, so the velcro is not subject to the stresses that delaminate the strap nearly as much. I do a fair amount of physical work and my first FLA is still going after a year. When the metal pokes through I use gorilla tape to stabilize it. This brace is so much better than the cloth with stays that is a cheaper option. At the $$$ I want to keep it going as long as possible. I save the new one for when I need to go out in public! 4UPDATE:FLA warranty replacement with updated, stronger straps6/4/2019 update: I changed from 1 to 4 stars because finally FLA agreed to honor the warranty on this brace and replaced it at the end of January. Instead of arriving with the expected original gray straps that are a very light hold velcro, I received one with beefier black velcro straps. I could tell right away this was an improvement to the original straps. I've been wearing it pretty much daily since and the straps are still holding well. I do not undo the thumb strap but I do take the brace off every night and the hand straps are still holding well. After trying a similar brand and pretty much every CMC brace out there, this is the only one that actually allows my thumb and hand to be relatively pain free so I was even willing to try modifying it myself if this 3rd one gave out like the others did. The straps you want say "Rhizo Forte Ref# 76239-03." inside in white lettering. I don't know if they have finally given up on the weaker gray straps or if they found this one and sent it to shut me up but it finally works and stays strapped.1/9/19 Update...Dropped from 2 to 1 star. I finally got Amazon to refund the original brace and against my better judgement decided to order another one. Like I said in my original review, this thing works. I have so many different kind of thumb braces in all shapes, sizes and firmness and this is the ONLY one that I can say left me pain free and able to actually use my hand and function like a normal person. I ordered the replacement at the end of September and by mid-December, the thumb velcro was again failing and does not hold now. Like before, I set the thumb strap upon arrival and left it alone. Never adjusted or opened it at all. The two straps that go across the hand are now starting to fail as well. There is no way to fix or repair it either. This is not a cheap brace but it is very cheaply made and is so disappointing. FLA does not support their product and seems to have no interest in making it more durable. As good as the pain relief is, I will not order again. I found that Amazon is now carrying another version from a company called Mars Wellness and I am going to try them. I called them today to ask about the velcro durability (that actually does look more substantial in the photos) and the person I spoke with says they stand behind it 100% and gave me his name if there is a problem so even without reviews I'm going for it. The pain without it is awful. I would recommend avoiding this product. It's too expensive to only have use of it for a couple of months!I ordered this brace for my thumb arthritis. Best support brace I have ever worn. The pain goes away when I have it on. Was planning on ordering a second one for my other hand. That is why I gave it the 2 stars I gave it because it actually works when the velcro works. I received this on July 9. By August 21, the velcro strap around the thumb started letting go. If I pushed on it hard enough it would finally catch. This is with me never releasing that strap! I slide my thumb out without undoing it. By today, 9/4, the velcro on the thumb strap no longer holds at all making the brace essentially useless. The straps across the back of the hand, the ones you have to use pretty much every day so you can take it off to shower or sleep, are starting to get very loose and don't always catch. I called FLA Orthopedics and Sarah told me it had a 120 day replacement but i had to go through Amazon and the seller I had bought it from. ESource promptly denied it, even though I mentioned the 120 day replacement and the defective item. No real way to contact them either. I called FLA Orthopedics back and spoke with Kristen who was unhelpful and basically told me there was nothing they could do for me! Refused to transfer me to a supervisor and hung up on me. When I called back she said she had no idea what I wanted them to do about it and kept repeating that they do not sell to the public! Apparently that means they don't have to support their product? I am now waiting for a supervisor to call me back but I'm not holding out much hope. Again, this is an amazing brace. I have full use of my hand and the support and pain management I wasn't able to find in any other brace but the velcro--Sarah claimed this morning that wasn't a common issue. I pointed her back here to Amazon and the reviews. $45 for a brace that lasted only 8 weeks with it not being worn at all for 2 of those weeks is ridiculous. Unless they fix their velcro issue, as great as this brace is, I would not recommend to anyone. 4The straps fail at about 35 days, and can only be returned in unused condition, so be prepared.Pros:- Very comfortable- Isolates the MCP joint wellCons- Straps fail just beyond Amazon return period- High cost if the straps fail. If they dropped the price to 1/4 more reasonable to order 1/mos 3REAL comparison.............The "push" braces at just over $100 requires a sock under it because it's so uncomfortable and sweaty. It was prob #3 or 4 if I had to rank them. I provided maybe 10 pics on it's honest review. There is another $50 that looks just like this box. It ranked the lowest. This one rocked my mind. I wish I could purchase more than one. It was very hard to find my size in a left hand, BUT it's worth the search and wait. With being creative you can replace worn out straps and make it last longer.This will forever be my go to brace for my CMC brace needs from now on. All insurance will cover is a large wrist brace with a thumb spica. I guess I will wear that at night to make this one last longer. I even took the time to send a link to this product to the med supply co. who is filling my brace order. My copay will be more than this brace costs. I bragged on this one and the girl even showed this one to the manager at the co. They really liked it and hope to be able to offer this as one of their products one day. Sadly my insurance refuses to cover it.I will update with pics. 5Comfortable with good immobilizationThis brace, size Medium, was comfortable right out of the box and didn't seem to need any other adjustment. It provides excellent immobilization without being annoying or hot like other thumb splints. I fell while shoveling a year ago and strained my thumb ligaments. Over the past year, I re-injured my thumb ligaments 3-4 times with all the manual labor I do as a housewife, home owner, nurse, etc.--Sadly, I'm very rough on my hands. This splint is minimalist and allows me to go about all my tasks--though I take it off if I am washing my hands or handling raw foods. I wouldn't normally be allowed to wear a splint at work, but I could get away with wearing this one. At first I thought this splint was too expensive, but I really think I could wear this splint MOST of the time for several weeks....and that's really what I need at this point to heal up once and for all, so it is worth the cost. The 2 velcro strips across the back of the hand are 1/2 inch wide and very low profile for velcro. If these strips should fail, as they have for other reviewers, I would sew on some new narrow velcro pieces...though the original velcro strips are really much nicer than typical fabric store velcro. It would be nice if the manufacturer had replacement strips for purchase. 5The best hand brace I've ever used.This product is very suitable for my condition because it did not restrict me from any daily activities, it allow me full use of my hand with minimal pain as where without the brace, I could not to anything without excruciating pain. Unlike the fabric braces with the bars, this brace allowed my hand to breathe and be free from sweating. I recommended this product to two co-worker who are suffering with other painful hand conditions and they too love it. Thank you Florida Orthopaedics for making this brace and Amazon for the awesome savings and expeditious processing/shipping of my order. 5Compared FLA 3D Adjustable Thumb Brace to Push MetaGrip CMC Thumb BraceI have Basal Thumb Arthritis, and my physical therapist said to try a brace that isolates the First Carpometacarpal (CMC) joint for pain relief. Pain comes from twisting jar tops, holding coffee cup, holding iPhone in landscape, and most of all pinching seeds to sew in flats.I tried both the FLA 3D Adjustable Right Thumb Brace, Medium and Push MetaGrip Left Size 2 CMC Thumb Brace for Relief of Osteoarthritis Pain braces for under 2 weeks. My left-hand experiences more pain than the right and had the Push, while the right hand is dominant and had the FLA. I am a very active gardener planting, digging, raking, moving pots and more. I work at this for 6 hours per day. The FLA took more abuse because it s on the dominant hand, and because there is a metal frame that extends across the palm. In the pictures, there is staining on the FLA from dirt that migrated through my gardening gloves. There is metal showing where the FLA is damaged from pushing with the right hand; the brace catches much of that contact since it crosses the palm. The FLA did not interfere with gardening, wish I had that type of padding in my gloves, not my orthosis brace though. I did not like the FLA brace across my palm for other activities. It was hard to write and type for example.FLA cost $45, free shipping, arrived fastest. Push cost $104 with shipping, arrived in about 3 days.Even though I felts some pain relief from using the FLA, I decided to return the FLA after a week s use. The reason is the one I received was defective. The small Velcro strap that holds the thumb, the most important strap on the device, started failing after 5 days. First it took on a wrinkle in the hook material, then the loop material came off its backing. I washed it daily in cold water and mild hand soap, and air dried it.I do not think the FLA isolated my CMC joint. The instructions do not address pinching the aluminum to fit closely around your thumb joint. This is necessary to restrain the joint. You cannot tighten the joint with the Velcro strap, the ergonomics and strength of the metal prevent that approach. The instructions recommend a doctor or medical Professional perform the metal bending adjustment. My physical therapist would not due to a significant preference for the Push design.The price is significantly less than the Push, but economy matters only if the device does its job and endures.The Push is rigid only at the CMC joint. The strap across the hand is soft and does not interfere with most tasks. Though on my non-dominant hand, I use my left hand for many task gardening, and the Push showed no wear and tear. I experienced SIGNIFICANT PAIN RELIEF using the Push orthotic. It did a good job isolating my CMC joint, and I had almost immediate relief. After a week, I had some pain return, but my physical therapist helped me make some subtle strapping adjustments and recommended frequent removal to dry the skin and orthosis when working to ensure a good fit.The Push instructions are complete regarding fitting the orthosis to isolate the CMC joint. I wish picture 7 was clearer about tightening the metal ring around the joint, but my physical therapist said I needed no additional adjustment. 1The concept of this brace is perfect, I ve tried any and every brace I can ...The concept of this brace is perfect, I ve tried any and every brace I can get my hands on and this was by for the best ....BUT for the Velcro strap, it failed after 2 weeks and now these are useless to me. Waste of money, I don t recommend for this reason. 1I could never get them to really fit comfortably and I'm an occupational therapist who had other occupational ...I was really excited to get these (I bought a pair, one for each hand) to support my CMC joints which are subluxed and developing arthritis. I could never get them to really fit comfortably and I'm an occupational therapist who had other occupational therapists help fit them. Further after wearing them for about 3 weeks during light activity, the velcro stopped holding strongly around the thumb and started to separate from the backing material. The plastic even started to show breakdown where the metal ends were. Also, FLA shows the model being active and I think, washing her hands in the video. I started getting skin breakdown and irritation where water and sweat didn't dry out and was captured between my skin and the plastic material. They were just never comfortable and I discontinued wearing them. Unfortunate, since I was hoping they would be a hygienic choice for being able to wear them while working in a hospital where hand washing and use of anti-microbial sanitizer is frequent and necessary. 2
