I went to a local health food store and asked what was the best, most absorbable calcium they carriedWhen I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I went to a local health food store and asked what was the best, most absorbable calcium they carried. This was it, and I've been using it faithfully ever since. My last dexa scan came back completely normal. 5How I know this stuff works...I am a 66 y.o. male who has had a dental abcess for about three years. It was a low level inflammation that would create a pus pocket that I "emptied" 2 - 3 times a week. At the suggestion of one of the reviewers here I started taking Bone Up with Jarrow's BIOSIL. I began taking this in February 2016 and as of July I had no more abcess symptoms. NONE. I theorize that the bone or tooth was infected and this combo basically regrew healthy bone /tooth and killed the infection. My dentist will do a B.D.scan soon so it will be interesting to see the "official" results. I wonder if this could be used on root canals which harbor bacteria in microtubules instead of having the R.C. tooth removed and replaced with an (expensive) implant. Has anyone seen any research on this? BTW my fingernails and hair both grow like crazy and are in great condition. Bottom line 5 stars on both these Jarrow products. 5I ordered Bone Up and followed the directions and was strong enough to go and totally enjoyed our tripI am 71 years old and broke my Tibia 9 weeks before a trip to Italy. I had spinal fusion surgery several months ago and this product really did promotes Bone Density and helped my spine heal. Anyone that needs something to help promote bone growth (osteoporosis, osteopenia, etc.). can benefit. 5Sensitive stomach - start out slowlyIt seems to have good ingredients in it, but it will take time before I know how if it is really helping me or not.I did have a lot of stomach problems taking this at first. I am a lot more sensitive than most.I had to start off with a smaller dosage and gradually build up. It took about 2 weeks, but now I can take it at the regular dose.When I first tried three with food, it gave me bad stomach cramps and gas.I backed off to one at a time with food for a few days, then 1 in the AM and two in the PM for a couple more days2 and 2 for about a week, and now 3 and 3.I believe it is the magnesium that requires the adjustment.If you have a sensitive system like me, you can still take them, but you will need to start out slowly.Update - Results. I have been taking Bone-up for the past year. I have been walking also 2 - 3 hours 5 days a week. I have made some improvement in my osteoporosis but it is listed on my chart as insignificant. The Z-score compares me to women in my age group. All scores should be -1 or higher but preferably 0 and up. I definitely have a lot of work to do and was disappointed that the results weren't better, but I will start wearing a weight vest this year and get retested next year. I learned recently that I should be taking the calcium before (30 minutes or so) I exercise because during exercise, serum calcium levels can drop. According to recent studies, taking calcium before a workout can keep calcium levels from dropping temporarily. I am thinking that more calcium in my blood will mean that my body can put it directly on the bones, but I will need to incorporate more weights. I am starting by wearing my weight vest each day during activities.If anyone has had good success with weight programs or other means of bone building exercise, I hope they will post. 4I reversed osteopeniaI've been taking Bone-Up by Jarrow Formulas for years. Several years ago I was diagnosed with osteopenia, the condition that preceeds osteoporosis. So I started taking this every day religiously. At some point my osteopenia was reversed and now my bone density is within the normal range.I do a lot of weight bearing exercise which helps build bone, and along with this, I did something that I didn't think was possible which was to reverse my thinning bone loss. I also walk two miles a day most days.So it is possible to reverse bone loss if you are determined to do it and put in time exercising and taking Jarrow Bone-Up. I wont' stop taking this for life. 5Only D I can take without giving me anxietyA couple of years ago, I found out that I was deficient in Vitamin D from my doctor. Thus began my up and down experience to find a supplement.To my surprise, when I took D supplements (and I tried quite a few), my anxiety levels would unexpectedly increase. I didn't make the connection between my anxiety and taking D until I ran out of it and went off it for a while, then started back up again (I know, most literature tells you that D helps alleviate anxiety!). The anxiety would get so bad that I simply just stopped taking D, and my anxiety would magically disappear.I did a bunch of research and came to a preliminary conclusion that maybe I needed other supplements to help my body better absorb the D. I tried combinations on my own, but it didn't work. I came across this brand and LOW AND BEHOLD; a D supplement that works for me without giving me anxiety! I love this supplement and it has helped me get my levels up to the normal range. And, it actually does make me feel better overall (definitely more energy!). I even tried adding a different brand for a day a 2 while taking this one and, boom, anxiety came right back until I stopped taking the other brand.If you have a goofy reaction like me to vitamin D supplements increasing your anxiety, definitely give this product a try. 5Five StarsBeen using for many years, ever since they wanted to put me on medication after my bone density. I never took the meds and this plus a little exercise and it improved and I don t need medication. 5I'm Sticking with Bone-UpI first tried Bone-Up as a Vine reviewer, and I liked it so much that I bought more. My nails are now stronger than I ever remember them being and it seems to be helping my hair, too.The first bottle I reviewed was for Bone-Up as a pill and the one thing I hated was the faint taste-smell when I swallowed them. I had to drink something with a strong flavor to cover it up. (They're big oblongs and you need six per day.) This time I bought it in capsule form and there's no unwanted flavor. They're easy to take with plain old water.Considering what Bone-Up has done for my nails, I'm sure it's helping strengthen my bones as well. Good stuff. 5Helps your bones.. Two accidents~No broken bones.I m a older women and have Osteoporosis, and have been taking Jarrow Bone-up for a few years.I will NOT take the Meds a couple of Drs. begged me to take, and that was 10 yrs ago. (Know Two people who died of Reclast)I had a bad accident in Hawaii 3 1/2 yrs ago, and I did not break anything, which the Drs. there where shocked about!3 weeks ago, another accident, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, after X-rays, did not break anything..Thank goodness. Although Drs. told me I would be on crutches for two weeks! No, only for 3 days..Although my leg was still swollen.From my investigating, I believe the best Calcium to take is Hydroxyapatite, which is in this Jarrow..It says to take 6 aday, I maybe take 3 aday, and not everyday. I m slim, and small bones, and for me 6 is too much.I believe one of the reasons I have Not broke any bones is because of Jarrow..I do take other supplements , and make sure I take 5000 mg of D3 a day and I mostly eat organic, No smoking, try to stay away from sugar, & red meat. etc.If your taking those drug store calcium pills, those could be going to your Arteries and Not your bones. They do not absorb in the bonesproperly, but the Hydroxyapatite does go to the bones and not your arteries...Do Not load up on calcium though, as calcium does come from food also.5 star, and good price for bone health. 5
