Plain with no fillers but with other caveats.I bought Jarrows because the ingredients were plain and simple. However, the protein powder did not meet other expectations. The taste was too strong. I mix my protein with 8oz of milk every morning to use with cereal. The taste of the protein was over powering with a chalky flavor. Compared to other protein supplements, it was a bit too much. When using a shaker cup, you will have to shake it a lot to get the protein to blend. If not, you will get clumpy powder which doesn't bode well in cereal. If you use a blender, you shouldn't have an issue. The ingredients are simple without any weird fillers. That can be hard to find in other proteins, even unflavored. If you will be adding other ingredients to the protein, other than just milk, and will be using a blender, then this is a good choice. 4high quality ingredients and tastyI am a picky consumer of protein powder. For years, I have been enjoying daily shakes with Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein Powder, Strawberry, 2 Pounds or MusclePharm Combat Protein Powder - Essential blend of Whey, Isolate, Casein and Egg Protein with BCAA's and Glutamine for Recovery, Vanilla, 4 Pound. Both have been good to me in terms of developing muscle mass, keeping my appetite under control, easily digestible, and tasty.I decided to experiment with Jarrow's Whey formula. The reason is their whey protein appears to be state of the art with zero growth hormones and minimal fat and lactose. This is important because as I get older, I cannot digest food as easily as I could in my 20's. So far I have been extremely pleased. It dissolves easily, tastes good, and my muscle to fat ratio appears to be moving in the optimal direction. 5No weird ingredients, no added sugars, and very little flavor. Good for baking!Almost no flavor and no weird ingredients makes this perfect. I use it not only for post-workout shakes but also in some baking to add protein. I make breads with this, replacing up to 20% of other dry ingredients with the protein powder. It does have a little bit of a milky flavor and texture, but stirred into water it tastes pretty much like just very thin light milk. In the breads it makes no difference in flavor (just be aware of its impact on your bread dough's hydration level and the fact that this will reduce the gluten the yeast needs). 5EXCELLENT!I was a caregiver for a family member who has since passed away, and I am now just getting the opportunity to write reviews for all the products I purchased here during the time that I have provided care. The doctors and nurses recommended I give my patient Carnation Instant Breakfast, Ensure, or Boost, or just plain Whey Protein, and I looked around, and priced it all, and then I found Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein, Unflavored, here.I purchased this for the sole purpose of getting more fluids and nutrients into him.He would not drink the volume that was prescribed, but he loved ice cream, and so I would mix up a batch of Jarrow Whey Protein with milk, a little sugar and dash of vanilla, and then freeze it into an "ice-milk" in a Cuisinart Pure Indulgence Ice Cream Maker, then top it with a little chocolate sauce, and that way I could get him to eat as much as he wanted. So, if you are a caregiver for a loved one, and nutrition and fluids are a serious issue, then perhaps some of this advice will help you.Buy this with confidence! 5I will never, ever buy another protein powder as long as I live.Okay, that may seem a tad melodramatic. I have good reason to be. As a long time user of whey protein, I have developed way to deal with the dreadful taste all brands seem to have to some degree. Specifically, I tried to hide it in tons of frozen fruit and juice. That solution was less than ideal to me when I came out of denial and honestly tabulated the amount of sugar in one of my fantabulous smoothies. Once I resigned myself to more moderate creations, it quickly became clear to me that if I didn't find a brand that tasted better than all the others I had tried over the years, I had a 0% likelihood of continuing to supplement my protein intake. So I prowled the product review pages on Amazon and came across a recommendation for this stuff. Hands down it is the best tasting protein powder I have ever tried. I mixed a scoop into a cup of strawberry Greek yogurt, and it actually made it taste better to me. Sort of creamier and less sharp. One cup of milk, a full scoop of powder, two tablespoons of Nesquick and I can actually forget I'm not drinking plain chocolate milk. Only 25 carbs and 27 protein, just like that, which is a darn sight better than the old Death-By-Sugar smoothies I used to make. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. 5Smells TERRIBLEPros- while I can t say I ve come across a tasty protein shake this one isn t too bad. The protein to calorie ratio is good without the cholesterol being off the charts.Cons- It smells TERRIBLE!! Like paint thinner or some other very strong chemical. Makes me nervous to put it in my body. I thought it was the packaging but it s the actual powder. I m going to reach out to the manufacturer and see if this is normal or if I just got a bad batch. I ll update this when I find out.The consistency is pretty thin. Not like a smoothie. Depending on what you use it for that could be a pro or a con. I tend to like my shakes on the thinner side so I get more water in so it doesn t bother me. If you re looking for the cake batter consistency this is not the powder for you. 2Price keeps rising :( but I love this stuff! Please stop increasing!Over all I like this product, but the price keeps rising. I was about to buy for the 4th time, but it's now over $21 and just a couple months or so ago was a little over $17. It was actually the $17 price the 1st 2 times I bought, then around $18, now at $21. Subscribing doesn't help either. Thinking I need to look elsewhere to buy.Edit to add... I've looked elsewhere... and at other products, and am still going to purchase this. I just wish the price would go back down or at least remain constant. 4UNFLAVORED....just the good stuff!I recently starting weight training, and so I've been looking for a whey protein that doesn't taste gross. I chose this UNFLAVORED whey protein on the basis of other reviews, and I was not disappointed! This product has worked really well for me. I wanted a whey protein that didn't have artificial flavors or fake sweeteners--even though these additives ostensibly mask the funny whang aftertaste of whey protein, I think they actually taste worse than the whang they're trying to mask! I also dislike overly sweet, sickeningly, cloyingly sweet products. This product is unflavored, with no additives or sweeteners, and it took me a long time to find one. It's worked out great--I put it in my oatmeal, along with fruit and milk. I also make awesome smoothies with it! Instead of the awful fake vanilla flavor, I add my own real vanilla! Instead of fake fruit or chocolate-imitation flavor, I add real fruit and chocolate! My favorite is a mango smoothie, which is better than anything you'd buy it in a store. I've also tried baking with it. So far, bread isn't a good idea--it makes the texture too rubbery. So if you want to bake with whey protein, I advise to stick to no-knead type quick breads. If you don't like overly fake-sweet and bad imitation chocolate/vanilla/strawberry flavors, then I recommend this product. Whey protein isn't the greatest tasting stuff on its own, so if you plan to mix the unflavored powder straight with water and drink it straight...I would not advise. But mixed up with juice, it's good. With oatmeal, it's good. Oh yeah, and it's REALLY good if you stick it in the blender with coffee and milk for a frappucino-type drink!I haven't tried the Jarrow Formula with flavors, so I don't know if they're good or bad. I just know that I've tried other people's flavored whey proteins in OTHER brands, and I thought they were so disgusting that I'd rather drink unflavored whey protein on its own. The aftertaste of artificial flavors and fake sweeteners is just awful! So I strongly recommend this product. 5Not to badDecent protein for the price. It will getbthe job done. It s not to much people want to know when it comes to protein powder. #1 taste, not to bad didn t taste like a milkshake of course but it wasn t chalky, you can always use milk instead of water (which is what I use:water) to get a creamier better taste, or add peanut butter or fruit.#2. How well does it mix? I use a regular shaker cup usually and this mixed just fine, no residue on bottom. Mixed even better in a blender when I added fruit. I workout frequently twice a day most days so I can tell you that I didn t loose any gains while taking this. Any other detailed info should only be given with a clinical test of how much protein you re actually getting per scoop. But this got the job done on a budget. 4New to protein powder, a real experience.First off, this is the first protein powder that I have tried and I am mostly happy with it. Before buying any protein powder research the different types of powders and different brands. This is especially useful if you have any food sensitivity or allergy. I also recommend researching brands especially considering some can contain heavy metals or other chemical irritants, intentional or not. Check for recalls. I found Jarrow Whey to be a good, pure, and clean milk protein. The most noted comments I saw were on taste and solubility. Many proteins that say unflavored mean no artificial flavors like chocolate or vanilla, not tasteless. Based on reviews I prepared myself for it to taste like **** because I wasn't accustomed to it, but to suck it up because I needed the protein. I was pleasantly surprised, it kind of tastes like a weird, mild cheese. While not extremely delicious (I definitely would not have this by itself or in just plain water), it is masked by strong flavors into a sort of milky tasting liquid. I frequently make an instant coffee protein shake and it kind of just tastes like milky coffee. Sometimes I add unsweetened cocoa. I will note that when I do the coffee mix, rather than a smoothie in the blender, the protein gets clumpy and foamy, while not impossible to mix it is frustrating when running late. However given enough time the clumps dissolve and the foam dissipates.Other tips to enjoy whey protein. "I put that **** on everything" quite literally. I try to integrate this protein into 2 or 3 meals a day. -Its great in soups or chili, I would recommend adding a little extra liquid because it acts like a thickener. Corn chowder? Yum!-Hate greek yogurt? Add some protein powder to regular or non fat yogurt and get a more powerful snack. I recommend flavored yogurt or adding fruit, otherwise it starts to taste a little cheesy.-This powder tastes cheesy. Why not add it to comfort food and make super mac'n'cheese or super garlic mashed potatoes. Garlic in the mashed potatoes because the whey is not real cheese and makes the potatoes taste...well...not good.-Add some to instant oatmeal or regular oatmeal. If I try something new that is particularly tasty I'll add it, but there are plenty of recipes online if you are really committed to adding protein where you can. Also any change in diet, especially a drastic one, can cause GI issues. If new to protein powder or have had a consistent lack of protein in your long term diet try to ease it into your new diet, maybe half a scoop instead of a full scoop. This should ease some GI issues associated with fluctuations in diet. It is recommended to ask your doctor before use, stop use if your GI symptoms are severe, and definitely stop use if you appear to have an allergic reaction.I only gave the product four stars because it is under review, most likely for the customers reporting packaging issues, and I have to reorder this in a round about way, which means I will be out well before the product arrives- Happy Eating The No Longer Protein Deficient Biomedical Engineer 4
