Customer Reviews

Not a match for me but AWESOME customer service.Unfortunately I was not able to tolerate this product, but the company provides 5-star customer service. Here are the details. (Chocolate flavor ordered.)Pros:- Product arrived quickly and seems to be a good value.- Customer service of this seller and risk-free guarantee are amazing.Cons:- If you don't VERY sweet foods, this may be overwhelming for you. I am the sort of person who would eat cake but scrape off and throw out the frosting. This drink was so sweet I had to stop after about half a serving. (good thing too)- If you are lactose intolerant, not just sensitive, you may still get some lactose effects like I did.- This is the first time I had something sweetened with stevia. I didn't like that it has a similar aftertaste to artificial sweeteners. Also, apparently some folks can have quite a reaction to stevia. I fall into this category and got a splitting headache after trying the shake. I spent most of the day in bed because of it, and I only had HALF of a serving. However, I simply cannot say enough good about the customer service. They were quick to respond to emails and willing to do whatever it took to make sure I was satisfied. They offered a refund, another of their products, or another product and a refund if I didn't like that one. This is a wonderful company. Sadly I had to choose the refund option because of my dietary needs. They issued an Amazon refund immediately. 4Great Product, Not-So-Great TasteRight off the bat: I love Legion s products. They are far and away my favorite supplement company, offering the most transparency among all their competitors. Further, the company s founder, Michael Matthews, is just one hell of a guy. I cannot recommend his books highly enough, as well as his overall training philosophies. (Ah yes, his books; start with Bigger Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Male Body if you are a man, or Thinner Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Female Body if you are a woman. Wonderful books on fitness, health, and positive life philosophy.)Now that we have that gushing introduction out of the way, let s talk about Whey+. Here s the very short version of my review: As a product, it s one of the best protein supplements you can buy. The flavor, however, leaves much to be desired, and truthfully, I almost can t even drink it.Let s talk about Whey+ s positives first, because they are varied and many. Whey+ is a protein *isolate*, which is rarer and of a higher quality than protein *concentrate*. If you have been drinking protein drinks for awhile and haven t paid much attention to what it is you are ingesting, chances are, you ve been drinking protein concentrates. I m not trying to write a treatise on the different forms of available proteins, but suffice it to say protein isolate, as found in Legion s Whey+ is superior to protein concentrate. With any sort of pure protein drink, we generally want as little carbohydrate and fat as possible, and that is why isolate is the far better (and more expensive) choice. Legion manages an astounding 2 grams of carbs and 0 grams of fat per 22 grams of protein. You almost cannot ask for better ratios than that (though, as you will see below, at least one other company manages to accomplish this task). Purely in terms of what Legion Whey+ promises and then delivers, it leads the industry. Whey+ is an absolute top tier protein supplement with no extra junk added. It is this almost absurdly high quality that gets them 4 stars instead of 3. And I lean toward 3 because The taste. Oh, the taste. I have only tried vanilla, so I can t speak for the other flavors, but yeesh. The powder does taste generally vanilla, but it is laden with that medicinal, chemical aftertaste so common to artificial sweeteners. I ve mixed it with fruit and flax seed, and still, the aftertaste persists. (For reference, I use a bullet blender and either water or coconut / almond milk.)It s worth mentioning that I tend to rebel against flavored protein drinks in general, so if a powder is going to be flavored, then it damn well better be **perfect**. What do I mean by rebel ? Okay, here s my issue. For me, a protein drink like this is pure utility. I want a very high amount of protein per day, an amount that isn t practical to ingest with whole foods. Therefore, I supplement my diet with concentrated protein to hit my protein numbers without taking in a lot of unwanted carbs or fat. Further, I think it s a safe assumption that *anyone* using a powder in this way is using it for a similar reason, meaning that anyone who would buy a product like Whey+ is actively eating very healthily, and carefully watching what they eat, i.e, no junk food. Why, then, do supplement companies insist on creating flavors like cookies & cream? Eggnog? Chocolate peanut butter? Bubblegum frappaccino? Okay, I made up that last one, but admit it; you believed it for a second. In my quest for fitness, I ve forsaken things like cookies and eggnog, and some researchers have made a strong case that continuing to eat even healthy snacks flavored with an unnaturally high sweetness will sustain the desire for sweets, something that many of us would like to eradicate. I realize that not everyone thinks this way, which is fine; I only mention it to give some context to why I might be coming down so hard on the flavor of this product (and maybe suggest a possible reason why some people can t leave junk food in the past). Personally, when I am intensely focused on my health, I just don t want to eat some decadent, boutique-flavored health snack. I want utility, purity, and naturalness. Rant over. After all that, it s true that Whey+ does come in an unflavored variety (something I missed when I initially ordered), and I would like to try that next. In the meantime, here are some other unflavored proteins I recommend.Whey Protein Isolate Powder Concentrate: PROMIX Standard 100 Percent All Natural Grass Fed & Undenatured Best for Optimum Fitness Nutrition Shakes & Energy Smoothie Bowls: Unflavored 5 lb Bulk (unflavored) is about on par with Legion in terms of quality, and in fact they manage 30g of protein per 2g of carbs, beating Whey+ s ratios (again, Whey+ is 22g/2g). The Promix protein is a little cheaper than Legion s, but hey; they re both very expensive. If you re buying protein of this quality then you, like me, probably aren t too concerned with the cost. Regarding cost, however, you are better off buying the 5lb container, but keep in mind it s essentially a keg-sized bomb shelter supply. The thing is **huge.**Protein 17 - Organic, Grass-Fed Whey Protein, Delicious Natural Flavor, 1lb/16oz/454g is another unflavored protein I love (though it is a concentrate, not an isolate). Protein 17 emphasizes the quality of their cows, specifically that the cows are all fully free-range and grass fed (Whey+ and Promix cows are grass-fed as well), and Protein 17 states that their protein is fully organic, or in other words, non-GMO. To be fair, both Promix and Whey+ state that their products are GMO-free, though neither use the word organic. As a final note on Protein 17, it s actually **way** more expensive than either Promix or Whey+, to the tune of *twice* as much. Protein 17 comes in at $37 per pound, meaning that 5lbs of Protein 17 would run you $185, as opposed to $90ish of either Promix or Whey+. However, Protein 17 does mix very well though, and even though it is flavorless, it has a delicious creamy texture that the others lack. If I were only having one shake per day, I might go with Protein 17. However, since I usually consume about three per day, I ve switched to Promix, though I will definitely be trying Legion s unflavored Whey+, simply because I am such a fan of Legion s products.I wish you the best in your quest for better health, and I hope this review helped inform you in some way! 4Not recommendThe powder is really sweet, and it gives me a weird after taste feeling. The bottle claims that it contains 30 scoops, however, after 10 days drinking it with 2 scoops a day, the entire bottle was empty.Additionally, when reaching to customer support regarding the issue with the product, I was given difficulty in getting the issues resolved and the staffs are not being helpful at all.I would not recommend this product. 1This will ruin your life and make all other protein powders unbearableI used to be able to use all kinds of protein powders, and within a reasonable range they were about the same quality, taste, cost, and mix-ability. But now I've been eating this for a few weeks, and when I tried one of those old ones again, it was just disgusting. Legion's whey is creamy like no other natural whey protein I've had, and it tastes incredible.I've been mixing chocolate protein with powdered peanut butter and a frozen banana (and extra maltodextrin) and it's like a milkshake. It's literally the meal I look forward to the most during the day (maybe because I'm cutting...) I used to make the same thing with other proteins and they usually turned out either too watery or too chalky, and it would all fit in a 24 oz glass. With this protein it winds up being more like 32 ounces because it's so creamy and fluffy.Last thing: it's on the pricier side of protein powders, but it's not outrageous compared to others. And because I trust this brand when they say what's in it is what's on the label, you're definitely getting every penny's worth of quality out of this. 5Good tasting protein shake with no weird fillers and low calories. After plateauing on my weight loss, I decided to give a supplement shake a test. Since weight loss basically boils down to burning more calories than you intake, I searched for a low calorie protein shake without any fillers. This lead me to Legion Whey. It only has 100 calories per serving, 25 grams of protein, and no fillers.I mix it simply with milk. Stirring it in with a spoon doesn't allow for a perfect mix, but the "clumps" left are so small they don't bother me. If you did it in a blender or something I'm sure it would be fine, but I just don't care that much. The taste is good. It really reminds me of the Carnation Breakfast Essentials. Personally I like it, and even my 2 year old likes it. I gave her a sip, and now she always want's one of her own. The best part about it is that it does a great job suppressing my appetite, which I attribute to the protein. All-in-all, I've very happy with it. 5Not Grass-Fed, As AdvertisedI bought this product because it was a well priced (in the 5lb tub, with the subscription option, at least), grass fed protein powder from a seemingly reputable company. However, the product is not as advertised. The description on Amazon states that this is from grass fed cows, even stating that the whey comes from Ireland, where the diary standards are higher than the in the U. S. However, the container states that it "comes from cows raised on 100% non-GMO feed". That means corn, not grass. I had run out of protein powder, and started using this before i caught on to the bait and switch , so I couldn't send it back. Now I'm stuck with a 5lb tub of something I would never knowingly order. It is also too sweet, but that is a minor concern compared to the ingredient deception. I have bought Legion products in the past, and thought they had a decent reputation, but It would certainly appear as though their marketing strategy is based on lies and misleading claims. After this, it would be hard to trust any product they put out. 1Cheaper on Legion Athletics websiteUpdate 03/2019: I've bought birthday cake flavor. Seriously, go to their website to order. You can use the honey chrome extension to ring up discount codes (at least 10% off). It's free shipping (I get mine in about 2 days) and no tax.I bought chocolate flavor from Amazon due to their S&S. It tasted ok for a protein shake. I mixed it with unflavored almond milk. I tried it with whole milk and the taste improved. It didn't give me gas all day long and it was easy to digest. It mixed well (using personal blender) and wasn't clumpy.I wanted to try their other flavors, so I went over to the Legion Athletics website to check out the reviews of other flavors. Their regular price on this protein (any flavor) is $40 and shipping is free. I ordered the strawberry/banana flavor and got the product within 2 or 3 days (and no tax!). They run monthly specials and at the time it was $10 off, so I bought the strawberry/banana flavor for $30. Strawberry/banana flavor is my current absolute favorite. It's sweet but not diabetes sweet--it tastes sweeter than actual fruit smoothie. It tastes so fabulous that I actually look forward to drinking it after my workout or when I want a fruit smoothie but don't have any fruit. When I mix this one, it's actually kinda frothy. Can't wait to try their mint chocolate and mocha! This brand is the only brand that doesn't give me bubble guts all day long and it tastes delicious! If you found my review helpful, please vote below to let me and others know. Thanks! 1Legion Whey appears to be possibly the highest quality product of its kind available!I recently switched to Legion Whey from another brand that was altering their formulation secretively and I couldn't get any answers on exactly what they were doing. I did an exhaustive study of other Whey products and was pleasantly surprised to find the Legion Whey. I wanted a low calorie option which Legion provides using high quality sources (e.g. Ireland Dairies, I am a university-based research veterinarian and I know that Irish dairies are among the best managed in the world with the best cattle genetics). I also wanted a high protein content per gram which the Legion product provides. I am about half-way through the first bottle and I am very pleased with the chemistry (easy miscibility in water/milk) and great flavor. In addition, I have had no adverse side effects whatsoever--digests wonderfully, little aftertaste. Finally, I am impressed that the Legion lab is inspected by the FDA--they have one of the most stringent quality control programs in existence. Next I will be doing the metrics on weight gains in my weight training program. I had a farm accident about 2 months ago breaking three ribs and other trauma which forced me to halt my weight training---just now getting back on that. I will write another blurb an a few months---in the meantime, I highly recommend this product 5Honest review from an industry professionalI am the creator of a smartphone app called Supplement Snoop. My company analyzes and compares supplements and their ingredients, and I have researched thousands of products. I can positively say that through my research and comparing products head to head, Legion is a top notch company. Their ingredient profiles are second to none. The way protein contains high quality isolate without the cheap fillers of many other brands. Many companies proclaim this, however stacking the products up next to each other proves Legion Whey+ is a cut above the rest. Not only do they make quality products, their people are first class. They care about their company and their customers, and I can positively say this IS NOT the case with all supplement companies. Whey+ is a little bit on the expensive side compared to some, but like most things in life, you get what you pay for.I am not a paid spokesperson or affiliate, I am just a guy who happens to know a quality company and product when I see it. Legion is world class in my view and I look forward to seeing them become a staple of gyms and kitchens around the world. 5I LOVE all that the company has put into making this ...I LOVE all that the company has put into making this product. I visited their website and it seems like they take pride in putting great ingredients into their products. I think overall it is exactly what I am looking for as far as carbs, protein, calories, etc. The Vanilla flavor wasn't bad, but the down side is that it is VERY sweet. Like Georgia sweet tea sweet... haha! I have been using a different protein powder for the last 4 years and I wanted to try something else with fewer calories. I usually put protein powder in my smoothie (fruit, protein powder and greek yogurt). With how sweet this one is, I don't think I can do that. I have only tried it mixed with water right after a workout. I am going to try it in a smoothie and with milk, but that all kind of defeats the low calorie factor. 2
