Customer Reviews

Ok, but not even 75% thumb immobility.I purchased this because I had a synovial cyst removed and sometimes get pain in the wrist from my thumb moving. Overall for the price it is pretty decent. It is a little big for me. I am a petite female, so that doesn't surprise me. I wish the thumb portion was a bit stiffer. I wear this at night and notice that I can still move my thumb quite a bit. I also wish the material that goes around the top of my hand was tighter. It is very loose and while it is not uncomfortable, it might be a problem if I was wearing the brace during the day. It is super easy to change from R to L hand, you don't even have to move any straps. It is also easy to put on and off. It isn't too long/high on my wrist and hand, which was something I was looking for as my last one went halfway down my arm. It is non-irritating to wear and the material inside is soft, but it seems like it is sturdy enough to last a while. I give it only three stars because I wish it had more thumb stability. 3is the best designed, the most comfortableI have a radial collateral ligament tear from grappling (Brazilian jiujitsu) and surgery is being deferred for now.I have bought a dozen braces to see which I like I decided to keep three, for the following reasons:Mueller Sports Medicine Reversible Thumb Stabilizerhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YIFA2C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1 Mueller , to me, is the best designed, the most comfortable, and the most stabilizing. Slightly more limiting in wrist motion than the Ely Gear ... but this is my "go-to" brace.Wrist Brace with Thumb Splint by ELY GEAR | Stabilizer Support for Pain Reliever & Recovery - Dual Spring - Reversible - Blackhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XZV951C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Ely Gear is a great brace, straps work well, but not as perfectly designed as the Mueller . However, I can do a little bit more with my hand and wrist with this brace, and wear it to work or when I'm playing cards or something.Team Defender Catcher's Thumb-Guard Protective Glovehttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXJTNY0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I wasn t sure if I would like this one or not, but it is actually awesome for working out in makes you not look injured and provides good support. My summary: Mueller at home and at sleep. Awesome design. Ely Gear at work and on the computer and working out. Team Defender with higher-intensity workouts and/or a glove rather than a brace is better tolerated by me or by my teammates. and I would recommend all three, if you have my similar injury and an active lifestyle. 5Good Thumb Stabilizer for De Quervains syndromeComfy, washable and I bought 3 of these in case I misplace any. (Price on Amazon was so much cheaper than at a major pharmacy chain that the price of 3 braces on amazon was only a few dollars more than the price of one at the pharmacy chain!)I had to take off one star because the Velcro at the thumb started to lose its grip after a couple of months and because the stiff material which stabilizes the base of the thumb caused me some soreness of the bone/ joint after extended wear. The bone got a bit swollen and tender. I found it helps to wear a little padding under the brace. I came up with a DIY makeshift fingerless glove wristband by cutting up an old sock to make like a 2 1/2 high wrist band with a slit for my thumb to go through. This puts a little padding between the brace and the base of thumb and wristbone. But I would love to see this brace manufactured with a little extra padding on the inside for people like me who are petite and don t have any natural padding over the bone. If your hand skin is thin and not too padded - I would definitely not recommend wearing this brace all day. I have slept in it and it is comfortable enough to do that occasionally - but eventually the metal (or hard plastic) inside the brace caused me soreness of the bone on the side of the wrist and thumb. After 5 months of daily wear, it did help the underlying tendon issue as it allowed the tendons to rest. But the bones did get so sore that I had to discontinue wearing it for a while. I now use it only when I need support for some movements that are going to really strain my thumb and wrist area - for example bathing my dogs or lifting anything heavy be it luggage or big stock pots. These braces really do the trick for the money. I ve washed them many times (I throw them in a pillow case and knot it) which is one of the reasons I bought a couple of extras so that I could have one to wear when the other is in the wash. I let them air dry.Overall - good product. 4If you want to trade one problem for another...This would be a great brace, but there is a seam, that is heavily stitched, that sits right in the crook of your thumb and forefinger. It stabs in that spot. I tried on both my right and left hand and it did it either way. In 1/2 hour of wearing I had red, raw skin there. I had my husband try it before writing this review to see if it was just my hands. It was not. It was doing the same thing to him. Maybe it isn't always stitched there? I can't explain why there are so many positive reviews as this is unwearable for me. 1This works pretty well. I LIVE in this braceI have never tried any other brace. But I am a new mom and have De Quervains Tenosynovitis from and needed to demobilize my tendon on my thumb. This works pretty well. I LIVE in this brace. I only take it off to shower. It works pretty well for my condition, however it does not completely stop my tendon from moving. Since I can not completely give my hands rest (i have a baby.. there is no getting around using my hands) So sometimes when using my hand, it gets tweaked and OMG, the pain is horrible.I showed my doctor this brace and she said it should be stiffer and recommended a medical grade one.I am still going to use this one for now as it is a lot softer then the medical ones and I dont want to hurt the baby and its easier to sleep in it.I probably would recommend this brace if you could actually give your injury true rest. But so far, ive been wearing it for 5 weeks and my injury has not healed at all. 4Carpal tunnel? Basal Thumb Arthritis? Get this brace!I bought this brace a year ago for two problems. Carpal tunnel and a really arthritic thumb (basal thumb arthritis.) It's helped my hand so much! If I forget to wear it and fall asleep really hard I wake up with a numb hand from bending at the wrist, which the brace prevents you from doing. It also keeps my thumb somewhat immobile, so that I don't damage it by (unconsciously) squeezing my fist at night while asleep. It's been a year, and I'm finally thinking it needs washing, so I looked at the packaging which instructs me to hand wash and line dry it. I noticed it says it has anti-bacterial ("aegis") shielding which must be what kept it from getting funky until this much time went by, which is amazing because my hands sweat quite a bit. This product is so much better than the wrist braces that my insurance would cover (after hassling with getting a script for one from a doctor,) and for under 15 bucks it's a great value. The velcro on the thumb is threatening to wear out, so I'm ordering a second one for back up, because I wouldn't want to ever be without this brace, and for the money it's worth it to have a second one even if I just misplace the original. I don't find the velcro wearing out to be a negative because of all positive aspects of this brace, it's fairly cool and comfortable, it's got antimicrobial shielding, and it protects my hand from becoming a total mess when I'm asleep. At my worst, before I had this brace, my hands were such a mess that just pulling my socks up would be very difficult and painful. If I wanted to be really cheap, I think it would be possible to sew on new velcro. 5Helped me!After having my first baby I developed "mommy's thumb". It's a real thing. My thumb and wrist hurt SO bad from holding my baby's head and the strain it was putting on my thumb. It became super painful and numb. I did some research and saw that other mom's bought something like this and decided to give it a try. Definitely helped keep my thumb stable and supported. I could still do things with this on and the pain went away completely in a couple weeks. 4This can irritate skin at skin near hand/thumbRheumatoid arthritis had made my thumb start hurting again for some reason. I wanted something that would not interfere with my daily work at the office so this was excellent, at first. Problem happened when I woke up the next morning. Upon further examination I saw the part of device that is on the skin between your thumb and the rest of your hand is not designed well. There is stitching on the inside which also connects two slightly rounded segments. I noticed pain in the morning and looked to see that it was actually being caused by what is now rather irritated skin. I suppose I could wrap some gauze around the area of the product that has the stitching and rounded but I may just go back to using a different thumb stabilizer that has smoother neoprene in that area of the skin. 1If only I could have found this sooner!!This is absolutely a gift from heaven! I'm not one to leave reviews but with this brace, I had too. The price is great! The quality is wonderful. It honestly is life changing for me. I work at a job 10 hours a day where I repetitively use my hands the entire time. Anything I gripped, held, tried to pick up or sometimes just moving, a sharp pain would take over my hand. And mostly I found it coming from the muscles near my thumb. So after looking at different braces I found this little gem. The first day wearing it took alittle adjusting. There's 3 straps you adjust to your hand. You don't have 100% flexibility, but I was still able to do everything I'd normally do. After working I took off the brace expecting to feel the same pain I do daily BUT there was NOTHING. NO MORE PAIN! Everyday I wear it, it seems to get more comfortable. I'm going on my 3rd week now and my hand never hurts anymore! I am forever thankful. I feel like I have my hand back again. And some random side notes: This brace has no metal, if your worried about having bigger hands and it not fitting DON'T, it's very adjustable for small or big hands, the material is very breathable and my hands don't sweat wearing it like other braces, and it's easy to wash, just throw it in with a load of clothes & just let it air dry! :D 5No good.It works for immobilizing the thumb if you don't plan to use the affected hand at all. There's a double stitch right at the crack of the thumb that creates so much pressure with the sharp stitches I can't decide what pain is worse, the pain from the injury or the pain from the brace. Re-injured myself while wearing it today, I even added an ace bandage under it to help stabilize and keep it from destroying my thumb crotch, no dice. Don't waste the money if you're active at all. 1
