Customer Reviews

Outstanding product, but be smart in your treatmentFirst and foremost. There is no "overnight/one-time" cure for lice short of shaving head. Don't do this. But also, don't believe the reviews that suggest you or your kid will be lice free in one night using this comb. Nits start out too tiny to even be picked up by this comb so you will still need to comb daily for the first week (and it was recommended to us every other day for the second week, and every third day for the third week) to keep pulling nits. yes the comb is outstanding, but it's not magical.Secondly, it's probably too late, but save your money and don't buy all the gadgets and products from your local drug store. They're just a waste of money. All you need are these combs, some wide/curved hair clips (the ones that are ~ 3" wide) and some nit loosening lotion/product (white, so you can see the nits you pull off).Thirdly, these combs are simply amazing. I was completely skeptical and totally overwhelmed when our daughter came home with lice and a note from her school. We overnighted these combs and followed the advice of a professional first wetting her hair with water, then the nit loosening lotion, and combing from front to back (and then from half way), left to right, and then right to left. Then we quartered her hair holding with the clips and focused on one quadrant at a time following the same pattern: front to back (or top to bottom), left to right, and right to left.As you comb, the lotion will pool on the comb. This is perfect as you will see the nits as they are pulled off. You want to keep combing an area until you stop pulling off nits. We pulled off over 40 from her hair and I'm certain we didn't get them all. This was confirmed when we repeated this over the next few days and pulled more out most likely from ones that had grown or ones we missed. The professionals we spoke to also use this comb, so be assured that the ratings and reviews are warranted (with the caveat previously mentioned). 5Used and Resealed PackageI too got a used package, as many of the other reviews claim. It looks like it was resealed and just sent back out. This item is NOT returnable, so I m going to disinfect it with alcohol and hot water and see how I feel. It s just really disgusting especially when dealing with lice, Amazon should not allow this. 1Terminator is an appropriate name! This is the absolute best lice comb on the market and worth it's weight in gold! It gets the eggs out, the nits out, the big lice out - EVERYTHING is removed with this comb. I have tried literally every other comb on the market and absolutely none work like this one. I will repurchase this comb if it ever breaks, to keep on hand because I have 4 kids and currently 2 are in public school, where they got the lice from initially.Use this comb on dry hair to get the lice, eggs and nits out. Then use any shampoo with mint, rosemary or tea tree oil to wash your kids' hair in the hottest water they can handle. Blow dry their hair and comb it out again with this comb. Put some tea tree oil or rosemary oil or lavender oil into a spritz bottle with some water. I use the 12 oz tear drop spray bottles from Target and fill them half way with warm water and then place 12 drops of oil in there. Then I spray it into my child's hair, on their shirt collar, coat collar, scarf and backpack. If they're wearing a hat, I spray that, too. I do it every 2-3 days to keep lice away. They hate the smell of these oils. You can also use peppermint, but I have found that while it is very effective, I am also very allergic to it! So do test on a small patch of skin first if unsure. To treat the bedding and pillows, just wash your sheets, pillow cases and blankets in HOT water. Place your pillows and stuffed animals in the dryer on the hottest cycle for 20 minutes. Heat WILL kill even the super lice, so it is important to administer heat to anything they've crawled on or had access to. Lice can live up to 24 hours off their host, so be vigilant and get to the bedding, toys, backpacks, clothing, coats, hats, etc as fast as you can.I use baking soda with essential oils mixed into it on my carpets. I mix 1 - 1lb box of baking soda with 32 drops of essential oils and 1/2 cup kosher salt. I sprinkle this onto my carpets, let sit for 1-4 hours, depending on how long my kids can stay out of the area (!) and then I vacuum it up. The salt will dehydrate any eggs and will also help get rid of fleas, if you have that issue too. Having said that about fleas, please know that pets CANNOT carry lice, so you do not need to bathe the pets or treat them with this lice comb.I hope this helps. I have dealt with lice on multiple occasions and have spent way too much money on things that did not work until I finally found the routine that does! :) 5Absolutely Lice FREE in one evening!Friends, I was once like you. Frantically reading product review after review, searching for the magical solution to my sudden lice problem. Search no further.Does this have electricity that will kill lice? No it doesn't.Does this have pesticide in the teeth to kill lice? Nope, not at all.Does this have teeth so close together, and so perfectly grooved that absolutely nothing will escape? DING DING DING!Stop scratching your head and order it. It's only $10. You're going to spend more on lotions and potions that you'll end up returning to the local walmart, than you will on this comb, and this is the only thing you'll need. I will tell you why just as soon as you order. Go! Order it right now, and then come back to read my sparkling review, k?(you ordered it, right?)Ok, here goes:Friday afternoon at pickup, I noticed a nit on a strand of my daughters hair. I looked closer, and can now see several. Upon even closer inspection, I can no longer deny it. This child has lice. Feces! *please don't let the little one have it, please don't let the little one have it* chants through my mind as my other child, the curly headed one, skips toward me from kindergarten. I lean in for a look... oh. my. lord. The older one CAUGHT it from the little one (I can tell, because on a scale of 1-to-HOLY CRAP, the older child is a one and the baby is about a 4) After I pick myself off the ground, we head to the pharmacy. So much to choose from! What is a mom to do? I stand there, confusedly trying to decide between Nix and Rid, Store brand and Lice Freee (total waste of money, by the way. The "active ingredient" Naturum muriaticum, is a fancy name for salt! $9 for a sprayable bottle of salt, thankyouvery much.. and yes, of course I bought it). I settle on absolutely every version, deciding to make my decision at home where I can be more comfortable in my neuroses. If you're like me, this is your first foray into the world of lice. Well, this is technically my second. When my oldest came home from the second grade with a louse and a few nits, I did what any self respecting mother would do - I shaved his head down to nothing and didn't bother with it. But I can't do that now. Good lord, why did you give me GIRLS?!But anyway, this is our first time with real lice! We can't ignore it. We can't shave it off. We can't drop fat man on Nagasaki. We have to be grown ups about this. We have to handle it.There are a few things that you should know about lice!***all gleaned from the internets. I make no warranty express or implied about the factual accuracy of my statements. Whew!****Lice are spread through HEAD TO HEAD contact. You've warned your children not to share combs, but have you warned them about the evils of HUGGING!?!?! (this is how my babe got it. She's... loveable. We call her Elvira)*Lice have three life stages, and to effectively eliminate lice, you must attack them at all of their life stages.*Nymphs (baby lice) and Eggs have no CNS - Central Nervous System. Since pesticides work by attacking the CNS of an adult louse, guess who doesn't die from pesticide shampoo? Can you guess? I bet you can! EGGS/NITS and Nymphs! You're so smart, I knew you could do it.Now grab up one of the hundreds of bottles of lice shampoo you've already purchased and read on there somewhere about how you don't have to remove the nits, and how this kills Lice AND Eggs so children can return to school faster.. THEY'RE LYING.The absolute ONLY WAY to eliminate lice is by stopping them where they start - NitsSection off the hair, get it wet and use some conditioner, and start combing. Comb until you think you can comb no longer, and then comb again. I'm not going to advocate against using the pesticides, but you HAVE to use a quality nit comb if you want this problem gone. I've read countless stories on the internet about cases of lice that just wont go away. I wonder if maybe it's because they're killing the adults and not bothering to remove the eggs that will be adults in just a few short weeks? Maybe?Come on guys, this is common sense. Remove the problem, and the problem no longer exists. This comb will help you do that. Now, I have to say, you're in for the heavy lifting. Just as there are no magical pills or sprays to lose weight, there are no magical pills or sprays to lose lice. You have to comb. You have to sit there and comb the ever loving crap out of your precious little snowflakes hair until it is FABULOUS and Lice free, but the results are immediate and lasting. Afterward, I recommend combing once a week until you're convinced. My children came home with lice one week ago, and yesterday at their second combing check, there wasn't so much as an empty nit casing. Infestation to Lice free in one evening. Still clear 7 days later. 5The best combThis better be the only comb you buy if you find yourself unlucky enough to need it!!! We got the plastic one first and quickly realized it was a big mistake. This one solved our problem in a heartbeat. Very effective and we have a five-person family. This comb was used, boiled, wiped and used over and over again. Two of us have extremely long and thick hair and this comb was far less painful than the crappy plastic ones that come with lice shampoo. Trust me.....you have to have a comb that works or those nasty little buggers are staying. And guess what? I have a puke-worthy picture for all of you who just can't look away..... 5Awesome comb, but beware of cheap knock-offWhile living in the Marshall Islands I discovered this comb and it works amazing. No nasty chemicals needed. I would treat my child's hair by soaking their hair in oil (coconut, olive oil, etc), putting a shower cap on and letting them watch a movie. Then I wash their hair thoroughly (will still be greasy, but actually makes using the comb easier). Gently and carefully run the comb through the hair and it will remove the nits. Every few days for 2 weeks, I would run the comb through their hair. I loved this comb so much I did a fund raiser to purchase 100 combs to donate to the islanders. I recently reordered for my son going on a 2 year mission and was sent a deplorable knock off (see pictures). The knock off has bent teeth that wouldn't work for nits. Amazon wouldn't allow returns online for this item, so I called and explained I was sent the wrong item and they refunded me. I tried ordering again and this time was sent the correct product. 5DO NOT BUY! This is a CHEAP KNOCK-OFF, NOT THE REAL PRODUCT!I am very unhappy with this product!! This is not the same product that is advertised!! I bought the genuine "Nit Free Terminator" lice comb two years ago from Amazon and I thought that this would be the same product. It is not! This is clearly a CHEAP, KNOCK-OFF version. The genuine version arrived in sealed, hard plastic packaging; this version arrived in a zip lock type bag. The genuine product has "Nit Free" embossed on one side of the comb; this version does not. The genuine product has micro-grooved teeth that are aligned perfectly, with absolutely no space between the teeth (to make sure each strand of hair is combed to pick up each nit); the teeth on this version are not aligned - there are gaps between the teeth allowing lice and nits to remain in hair even after combing. To make matters worse, I've just tried to return the product and I'm told that there is a no return policy on this item. Save your $10 dollars and make sure you buy the genuine comb, not this cheap version!! 1Perfect tool to beat lice! More info in review for lice problems!I ordered this comb because I found about 15 nits and 4 to 5 hatchlings on my six year olds head. I was able to remove them with just my hands and the plastic purple comb that comes with the treatment shampoo but I wanted a comb that would last and would make my job a little easier. I ended up doing the 1 day shipping because I found out my 10 year old cousin was covered in lice and I wanted to be able to help her get it taken care of.I want to recommend a page for anyone dealing with lice, it's called http://thenicelicelady.blogspot.com/?m=1 and she has the best advice. She helped me feel so much better about having to deal with lice and make it a task that may take some time but is actually effective. She stresses that there is no need to waste your time cleaning and washing everything the person with lice had come in contact with, you don't have to do any extra cleaning. She also explains why the only tools you'll need to beat the lice is a good fine tooth comb and some cheap conditioner.I took her advice and was able to try it out on my cousin, who has the thickest hair I have ever seen. My daughters hair is thin and blonde so it was easy to find the bugs on her but my cousin has dark brown/black hair that can't even be brushed all the way through with a hair brush and has to brush it in layers. I could see a lot if nits on her but could not visibly see the hatchlings and found one adult louse when I checked her hair dry, the day I realized how bad she had them. That same night I used the purple came that came with the Rexall treatment they had tried, several times, and she was still plagued by the bugs. I did the very bottom layer of hair just to try and start the process and get her some sort of relief, I used the conditioner trick but the purple come was definitely not very good at grabbing onto the nits. On that first round though I filled up three paper towels of hatchlings and nits. If that purple comb or any fine tooth comb is the only one you have that will do also, just make sure you comb through it and get everything you can.The day I got the Terminator comb in I had her take a shower so her hair would be wet and then I put the top part up, not even half up half down since her hair is so thick. I completely saturated her hair in conditioner, I ran out and had to use a spray on detangler on the top part which worked okay but wish I would have had more conditioner instead. After I had her covered I began using the Terminator lice comb and right away I could see how well it grabbed the nits and the hatchlings that i couldn't even see. She had so many that I worked for 2 hours and I know I haven't got everything. The lice lady says to remove what you can and do it everyday until you don't see any nits or lice, brush the comb through for 100 strokes but if you find a bug or nit start again at 1. Then when they are clear after 100 strokes you are supposed to do a wet check every 2-3 days for two weeks but if you find anything lice related the 2 weeks starts over.Okay, after I combed through the bottom layer the best I could I untied the top layer, before this I hadn't seen any large lice but the first comb through I pulled out 2 big lice and some more small ones. Out of the top of her hair I found a lot of medium to adult lice. After I combed through the top layer to the point that I wasn't finding really anything that warranted me messing with her hair much longer, I moved to the bottom to do a quick run through again to make sure any other big lice didn't run down to hide in hair. After each comb through I wiped the comb on a paper towel and made sure there were no bugs or nits stuck in the teeth that would get put back in the hair. When you use the conditioner and comb through it will slide out of the hair on the comb which really helps the bugs to stay in one place while you are still working on the hair. I will be checking her again in Saturday the 23rd, I was going to check tomorrow but her head is a little sore from all the combing.I had her take a shower after I was finished to wash the conditioner out and to get anything I may have loosened with the comb out and washed away. I kind of looked through her hair by lifting up part of it and checking a couple places I knew had a bunch of nits before and I did not see anything. I know I did not get every single lice or nit, but the main thing is to dwindle their numbers and beat the cycle. I was so happy and she was too. This comb is worth every penny. The treatments were 8.00 dollars a piece and they didn't even work. Go to that ladies blog and read. Do your research on these things and you will feel so much better and much more confident about getting rid of them for good. You just have to be a little nit-picky!! ;)As you can see there were some hairs that were pulled out but she is extremely tender headed and handled the whole 2 hours very well, those few hairs do not take away from the star rating because I know this product works and helped me get rid of a nuisance for my little cousin. 5Beware before buying. This is not what you will get.I received a cheap imitation comb. I wanted this one with the spiral-like teeth. I got a cheap imitation in a plastic bag with no manufacturer card or information. I m really disappointed that Amazon, let s this happen. And now they say it is not returnable. Bad quality control. Amazon is getting too big to watch over all these fake companies popping up with their counterfeit junk. 1Just grab this if your kids have the dreaded "scratch".Oh my god, believe the positive reviews. If you have kids, you live in fear of the day "the scratch" suddenly appears. Schools no longer bar entrance to children over lice, so they don't just spread, they become a pervasive nuisance, even in nicer schools. Should that day come, you're going to freak out and want to treat them like a plague. They're gross, they're shame inducing, and they're hard to get rid of, but you're not going to get any diseases from them. After conferring with some of the clinicians here at work, I walked away far more informed than my parents were when my sister and I got lice as kids. For one, don't even bother with the pesticides, they not only don't work well, they can harm your child; if it's so bad you can't comb them out or you need to handle them quickly, shave the afflicted head. Something one of the docs in the clinic who has dealt with a number of lice outbreaks over her time, vacuuming combs are just technological snake oil, don't bother. Most importantly, don't treat them like the plague, don't let yourself get angry about them, certainly don't get angry at your kid for having them. Wash all your hats (put hats in your dish washer to retain the shape) and bed/pillow linens, then calm down, order this comb and a little petroleum gel and you're good to go.The comb itself works wonders, by the time we caught them in our 9 year old, they were moderate, and she had given them to her 2 year old sister. A quick swipe through the baby's head and she was good, 3 days of morning and night combings, the 9 year old was bug free. They showed back up again, this time my wife and the 9 year seems to spontaneous become hosts, but 2 days of 2 times a day combing and the problem was gone again. We comb the 9 year old's head every Friday now, as the school seems to not bother even informing children when one of their peers (anonymously even) has been observed as having an infestation and we've been problem free for months.Oh, the gel, before I forget, it's not to "suffocate" the lice, that takes up to 16 hours according to our specialists here at Baylor, it's to immobilize them and provide extra traction in removing nits.Edit: This comb is amazing, that stands, but it becomes time consuming and tedious to keep up with lice when the school does nothing to help control them. We ended up shaving our daughter's head at the the beginning of summer. So you need to realize, that even with the right tools, you may not win the war. 5
