Side affects lose cravings and gain energy I just started drinking this powder a few days ago and my motto is if it tastes like crap it looks great on the body and if it tastes great well it doesn't usually look so great on the body which is why I bought this to begin with. I didn't want to mix it in my morning coffee that's how my son drinks it. Yuck! But I decided to just mix a scoop in some cold water and just stir it up and drink it and don't worry about the taste. Well I did that for 5 mornings this week and to my surprise by the 3rd day I had lost my taste for sugar and cravings! I was really surprised but that's the side affect for drinking this stuff I have lost a pound and I've been working out and my energy is like the energizer bunny! It's crazy as I am a almost 5 year stroke survivor working on getting my energy back up. About the taste once I get past the first sip I can drink the rest and it taste pretty good. I ordered myself a blender that I can't wait to try so I will come back and update this review next week! I say treat your body good and it will feel amazing 5Stomach pain and bloating. In brief: Do some more research on alternative vegan protein options before concluding on Orgain. This is my 2nd vegan protein powder, and I ignorantly bought it without doing much research besides relying on the fact that it's a best seller item and has somewhat decent reviews.1) My goal for buying was to take after the gym. I don't think it's meant for that (even though it says it's for athletes, among others) and seems to be geared more towards meal replacement due to the ingredients meant to have an effect on appetite. There's not even an amino acid profile on the packaging which is something I'd actually like to have.2) It tastes markedly better than my first vegan brand (Sunwarrior Warrior Blend which tastes awful), but other reviewers seem to not like the taste - I got vanilla. Maybe after forcing down a terrible flavor for so long, a less-bad flavor is much less noticeable to me.3) Aside from flavor, however, it made my stomach hurt pretty badly within and hour of taking it. It doesn't appear that my experience is completely unique among customers. I wasn't sure whether it was this or something else until I tried 2 more times and experienced the same issue on both occasions. The first time was the worst time though. Further research on ingredients pulled up:- Organic Acacia Gum: Thickener extracted from the acacia tree, it also provides fiber to help suppress appetite. Possible side effects which may result include: A) Nausea, gas, and bloating. B) Loose stools, diarrhea, and indigestion.- Organic Erythritol: A sugar alcohol used as an alternative sweetener. It is only partially absorbed by the body and contains almost no calories. It can promote side effects such as: A) Indigestion, bloating, and stomach rumbling. B) Nausea, intestinal gas, and ill feelings.- Organic Guar Gum: A fiber and thickener that is extracted from the guar plant. It is sometimes used as a laxative, and it can cause an expansion in the intestines to mimic fullness.Among other things. I have experienced the above side effects all three times, and it's pretty irritating. I don't even think that I can return it now - so it's a waste of money on top. 1Replacing ShakeologyI used Shakeology for one year a while ago. I loved what it did for my body and health.what I didn't like was what it did for my pocket, it was just too expensive. I went 3 years without drinking protein shakes, because I didn't know I could fashion something similar to Shakeology by combining a full amino acid profile protein powder with a superfood powder plus flavors like raw cocoa and matcha. I chose Orgain because of the price, to be honest. My first purchase was the Chocolate flavor and I found two scoops in 8oz of liquid made an extremely sweet shake and I couldn't drink it. So I asked for a refund (and they didn't ask me to return the used canister!) and ordered the unflavored powder plus the Orgain Superfood powder. It's a winner!! I even like the texture better than Shakeology --- Shakeology was kinda gooey I vary my smoothies, but my staple recipe is:1 frozen Banana (bananas ripen too fast, so I freeze them in ziplock bags)1/2 cup frozen mixed berries2 tbsp Peanut or nut butter2 scoops Orgain1 scoop Orgain Superfood Powder1 tbsp raw cacao10 oz Almond milkIt's freaking delicious and filling, plus I noticed less bloating.Absolutely recommended 5Plant based Organic Protein and priced right!I've been using this for about a year. I have tried about everything out there andfor the money...and being plant based...in my opinion it's right up there withthe top name brands; for a lot less cost. I mix it with Organic raspberries, blueberries, 1/2 ofbanana, Green Vibrance and self ground Flax Seed; plus some high potency mutli vitamins withminerals and Ubiqunol. I usually am never tired and have energy that keeps me going untilfairly late at night.I'm going to be 70 and something has to be helping me and I believe it isthis regiment. Good luck and God Bless 5My Everyday, Go To Protein Powder - Tastes Great.I am an amateur athlete who has lost 60 lbs. in the last 18 months. So far, I've been able to keep it off.One of my many, many strategies for managing my weight, besides being much more active, is to make changes to my everyday eating habits. One of these is to treat myself to a frozen protein mix every few days. As the platform for this, I've used a variety of protein powders and nothing beats plant based protein for taste and low calorie density. When I mix up Orgain in the vanilla or chocolate flavors (they have a new peanut butter flavor, which people are going to love, but I'm not a big PB fan...) with ice it tastes almost as good as ice cream. I can mix in some coffee, semi sweet chocolate, etc., fruits, etc., and get something that is low in calories, high in healthy protein, and tastes fabulous.Orgain is my everyday go to protein powder. 5Soy-free vegetable-based protein powder that's different from whey but not badLet me start by saying that I purchased the "Natural Unsweetened" flavor of this powder, since Amazon seems to lump all the reviews together. People who are complaining about aftertaste from stevia or erythritol probably didn't order this one because it doesn't contain those (though it does list "natural flavors" as a ingredient). I figure if I want to flavor it, I can do so myself, but I actually find it quite tolerable as is--per the directions, I mix it with either almond milk or water (or usually a mix of the two with mostly water), and it's fine--not award-winning taste, but I wouldn't expect that from something that is not sweetened and minimally flavored.I normally use whey protein but wanted to try something else for when I didn't want quick-digesting protein, and I wanted to vary my sources by not consuming so much dairy while also avoiding soy. I thought about mixing pea and rice protein powders myself (to get a better amino acid profile than either alone), but then I found this, which mixes them plus a bit more, and it's just what I was looking for! It's more expensive than whey, not quite as versatile, and has a different taste and texture (almost chalky but not disgusting--and, hey, it contains fiber), but it's about what I expected for a vegetable-based protein powder and it's certainly not bad. I will keep this in my rotation as something I use when I want extra protein but don't want to go for whey. 5TASTES LIKE STEVIA...Can't taste flavor of the shakeIt gets an 'E' for effort. Here's my take: I was big into Isagenix 2 years ago and I felt healthy and loved the taste of the shakes. I also lost a good amount of weight. However, I stopped using it because it was really expensive each month and I just couldn't justify paying that much on something, when the company utterly refuses to go organic. I just don't get it. So, I, like most of you, wanted to find a budget-friendly shake that was organic, so I knew that I wasn't putting a bunch of crud into my body for the sake of some protein. It just made more sense. I purchased the Orgain Organic Protein Powder in Vanilla Bean after reading a ton of positive reviews, and, I because was super impressed by the ingredients. It looked exactly like what I was looking for. I was very excited to have my delivery come super early, and when I opened the lid, I could smell the delicious vanilla scent. YAY! I thought. I was anticipating that being the taste of the shake. It is NOT. For me, I am not the type that likes things to be overbearingly sweet. And, to my chagrin, I had forgotten how much I HATE the taste of stevia. Stevia tastes worse than aspertame to me for some reason. In any case, this protein powder tastes like it is LOADED with stevia. I can't even bear it. I want it to taste like Vanilla Bean so badly, and all I can taste is the STEVIA! Gross. Some said it was "grainy" but honestly, if you use almond milk and/or water with ice cubes, you are going to have a smoother consistency. It isn't about that, it's all about the stevia taste. If you like stevia and a LOT of it, you're going to like this one. If you aren't a fan of super sweet things, especially stevia, you definitely should pass on this powder, as much as it PAINS me to say that. I REALLY wanted this to be my new "go-to" and sadly I am still on the hunt. For now, I am getting through it by adding some tropical fruits and more ice to subdue the taste. 321 grams of vegan protein w/ branched chain amio acids, I have lost a lot of weight and kept it offI purchased this product with my own money. Orgain has never given me anything for my thoughts or opinions.I have purchased Orgain protein powder many times according to my amazon order summary. I have purchased it at a few other places when Amazon runs out as well.I like the taste, compared to other powders I have tried. It is not a DQ shake, but for a vegan protein shake it is good. I only mix it in smoothies with frozen fruits, and fresh produce. So the powder only provides a little sweetness and a lot of protein. If you hate all protein powders, you will probably hate this one too. Maybe if you hate all protein powders try drinking smoothies with just fruits and veggies, and get your protein from some other healthy source.I realize there is a subset of people that say why smoothies? Just eat food. I was not 326 lbs because I was eating healthy foods. I was in the camp of people that thought fruit was a waste of calories. I mean come on, 2 apples have the same calories as a candy bar. But what I have learned is that two apples will nourish and fuel your body, leaving you satisfied. Sugar just trashes your hormones and metabolism. Calories are not the only thing that made me fat. Excess calories from poor nutrition made me fat. Protein smoothies were my baby step in learning how to eat the right stuff. I knew what to eat. I just did not want to do it. Protein smoothies taste good to me. They helped me to learn how to like eating fruit. I now eat whole fruits in place of junk food. I also eat a lot of fruits in smoothies with Orgain powder. My overall review is fairly glowing, and I will let my 5 star rating stand, as I have lost over 100 lbs. The positive benefit of losing 100 lbs and keeping that weight off out weighs anything else for me. So maybe my thoughts are biased.Protein smoothies and an otherwise terrible diet will not help you lose 100 lbs. But protein smoothies, and education may help you learn your triggers to bad eating, and they may help you compensate for cravings, and learn new cravings. It will be a struggle, and it will take time.I do not use this powder in a shaker cup so I can not say how it does with those. I do use it as a component in a fairly complex smoothie with 3 or 4 types of fruit and some greens and juices. My smoothies are not low calorie. They are good calorie with great nutrition. They are not a full meal replacement, but they are close. My smoothies run about 300 calories per serving. I consider a meal 500 calories, for my size and activity level. The nice thing about a smoothie is you can pour what you need and share the rest with your family. My go to smoothies recipe is1 blendtec designer 625 blender with 4 sided jar Blendtec Designer Series Blender, WildSide Jar - Black4 oz of POM juice POM Wonderful Pomegranate Cherry, 100% Juice, 16-ounce, 6 Count2 oz of lemon concentrate (gives fruit smoothies a jolly rancher effect) ReaLemon 100% Lemon Juice - 2/48 oz. btls. by ReaLemon [Foods]4 ounces of coconut milk....So Delicious Dairy Free Organic Coconutmilk Beverage, Vanilla, 32 oz (Pack of 6) plus frozen strawberries, blueberries, and fresh green baby spinach.this will make a thick smoothie, probably too thick for a ninja blender (been down that road) more liquid will help thin the smoothie if your blender can't handle it. When I had a ninja, the liquid had to be filled to the top of the greens at the least.3 scoops orgain vanilla protein powder (that makes 33 grams of protein for the full pitcher of smoothie)2 handfuls of fresh organic power greens, baby spinach will work great too.2 handfuls of organic frozen strawberries1 handful frozen blackberry, raspberry, blueberry comboThis will make a full jar of smoothie. 48 ounces I think. This is the family size recipie. Don't drink this all your self!! As a meal, this will feed two people. As a snack it will feed 6.My life is great now at 215 lbs, and I am active. I can play with my kids and ride my bike to work. I could not do that at 326 lbs.Orgain protein powder helped me. It tasted good enough to make a new lifestyle possible. It has good organic ingredients. It is a great component in my organic smoothies, that we still have several times per week. Not everyone has the same goals, or problems I had. Your journey will be different.Update:For the best price, what I have found is that I can order 4 of these every other month, in the subscribe and save program. I also order some gummy vitamins, so that gets me to the five items needed for the 15% off. Then I pay with my Amazon store card. that gets me another 5% off. So I get 20% off each jug I order just by making sure I have 5 items shipped every time I get a subscribe and save. If you end up liking this product as much as I do, and don't use as much, you can order 5 and then skip months until it is all gone. I think subscribe and save even has an every 6 months option. Doing it this way gives you five for the price of four. That is how I get the best deal. But other than that I pay the same price anyone else would, and those discounts are available to anyone. Good luck and happy smoothing!I think the key is to identify healthy choices and do them consistently. Protein smoothies can be an expensive way to get healthy. So using them as a supplement, may be a better choice for many. And eating healthy foods will be your best overall choice.Getting exercise is also a great idea.My hope with this review, is to encourage and inspire someone to make healthy changes. To show them that someone else has had struggles (and I still struggle, I wont even mention how badly I did this past holiday season. But with effort and consistency, there can be hope. Maybe you wont lose 100 lbs. but maybe your clothes will fit better, and you will be able to be a little more active. I remember how happy I was that my size 42 jeans were not tight any more. Now I can wear 34's, and I have gotten down to 32's when I got my weight down to 206. But so far I have not found that weight very sustainable. 5Taste Awful and Contains Harmful MaterialsFirst of all...I've tried other Vegan protein powders before--I've used to take one that was made from mushrooms and that one was fine. This one, however, tastes so bad I actually almost vomited (I have a pretty strong stomach, only been nauseous a few times in my life so this was awful). I hadn't done enough research on this, and once I looked back at the poor ratings of this protein powder more extensively, and a lot of people had a similar reaction, along with stomach bloating, which I haven't noticed, but I've only used it twice so far, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that again.I also saw the Clean Label Project mentioned on another Vegan Protein Powder review and realized I didn't check this before I bought this. This protein powder only has a 2 out of 5 stars because of the presence of Arsenic/Mercury and Cadmium/Lead which is terrifying to me. Definitely not buying this again!!!! 1Not filtered. Found bug and plastic in my scoop. Thank goodness I caught it before consuming it!!!!I just found a dead bug & a piece of plastic in the same scoop of my protein powder. I received this box two days ago. I am shocked, baffled & disappointedly this used to be my go-to protein powder. Now I gag thinking about it. What am I supposed to do with the rest of this bucket now? Ugh. Gross. Don t get it. 1
