Customer Reviews

Useful for donning sandals as well as socksI have been using this sock aid for some time with excellent results. I find the Medpeds brand of socks works well with them (they are designed for people with diabetes or suffering from leg swelling). I find cotton socks do not have enough stretch to comfortably wear or to get on my foot. I find this sock aid very helpful for putting on sandals with a strap around the heel. Insert sock aid in sandal similar to sock allowing aid to guide heel past strap without the strap folding under the heel. I recently had hip surgery which required wearing T.E.D. hose (compression socks) and found them extremely difficult to put on, even with help. The addition of a sprinkle of foot powder or talcum powder inside the Sock Aid mad even these socks go on easily without help. I couldn't get past the heel without powder. 5HelpfulFirst try I was pissed. It didn t seem to help at all, but I like it now. Second try and most since it was great.I d like to explain exactly why but I m not quite sure.First thought was that I didn t slide the sock on far enough or slide my foot into the sock as far as I could. Since I started doing that it has been a great help until today.I had similar difficulty today but it was because my foot was damp. I had just gotten out of the shower and it added friction that made it difficult.Long story short, slide your dry foot all the way in and give it a second shot if it s not so great the first time.It will be great for me until I get my hip replacement. 5Pictures do NOT tell the real storyAd pictures are not adequate; really easy to use, but you should put the sock complete on the puller. See my pic. With size 14 foot and size 13 cotton socks, it works like a charm. Can pull them all the way up my ankle and leg. At first, I did not put the sock on far enough, but that is the trick. You also might want to put a clean sock on your good foot, if you have one, to stretch it, then put that sock on the Puller. I am 79 and can not put a sock on my left foot; this tool is wonderful 5Works far better than I expected.UPDATE: bought a 2nd as a spare for use when the first one eventually wears out or breaks. Realized I would have a very difficult time dressing without it. Good product.I live alone and have had difficulty putting socks on lately. The inflammation, pain and swelling in my joints, legs and feet have made it increasingly difficult to put socks on some days. It is very gentle. The edema in my lower legs makes my skin very susceptible to damage and infections. I've been careful using it and have not had a problem.I expected pulls in my socks. So far, not a problem. This device works far better than I could have imagined or hoped. It is deceptively simple. You have to be careful not to damage socks since the opening of the sock has to be stretched quite a bit to fit over the end of the device. This is not a complaint but an observation since any similar device would have the same obstacle.I am very happy with this purchase and will buy again if and when it needs to be replaced. 4Works Very Well even for Compression SocksAfter reading reviews and the number of positive reviews I decided that I'd give this product a try. It really does work well once you master the technique for putting compression socks onto the apparatus. The key (at least for me) was to make sure to turn the compression sock inside out so you could pull the back of the sock heel over the tacky black rubber and then work the sides of the compression sock over the sides and work them up where the toe is at the end of the curled tube. The best way to start it is hold it between your knees to compress the apparatus and then work from side to side to get the entire sock bunched onto the plastic. I'm very happy with the product and glad that I ordered two. One for home and one for travel. 5Requires hand and arm strength for compression stockingsI had a previous sock aid with blue pull handles that eventually split and this was the closest type I could find. It's not quite as good, but works even with mild compression hose. My old model had the foam piece attached higher on the back which allowed me to get my compression knee highs one the gadget more easily than this model where the foam piece is right at the bottom. I can manage it though it takes some serious maneuvering and hand strength. That also requires more strength when pulling to get the stocking on my foot and off the plastic aid. The third thing I noticed is that the pull ropes on my old one are soft where these are a bit scratchy. Since I put my socks on while sitting I use the ropes as much or more than the actual handles. This aid is almost exactly the same size as the other, only a bit wider at the foot which I like, although again it makes getting the stocking on it slightly harder. Now all that said, the thing does work and gets the job done for me, but for someone with poor hand or arm strength who needs this for compression hose rather than loose socks, they may not be able to manage it.I used my old version through two different knee injuries that kept me from being able to bend that leg enough to get my knee highs on, When it cracked, it still worked if I was careful, but I knew its days were seriously numbered and had to replace it. This one seems sturdier and is made in the USA which I value. 4I should have bought this years ago.I don't write many reviews anymore but this product inspired me to write. I have mild cerebral palsy along with a back injury. For the last several years I have been unable to put my socks on without the assistance of a tool. The tool I was using was a pair of scissor tongs from the kitchen. I would sit on the edge of the bed bend over and pull the socks on with the tongs. This was still extremely painful because I had to bend sharply. I was fighting the pain and the muscular resistance caused by the cerebral palsy every time. Some days I went without socks and shoes just because I dreaded the painful ordeal of putting them on.I have looked for alternatives before. I have even looked at this same tool on Google before but I thought it must be a gimmick because it doesn't look like it would really work. Then I was looking at the different sock tools on Amazon finally decided to give this one a try because the price was so low that if it didn't work I wouldn't be out much money.I received it. I used it. All I can say is WOW! No bending, not even a little, to put my socks on...which means no pain. I don't even have to bend over to pull the tops up when used properly...although I did experiment a few times to get it exactly right. Hint: Pull the sock almost all the way onto the tool. If you don't do this you may still have to bend over to pull the tops up. Also, make sure your foot is completely dry before using. If it isn't completely dry your foot won't slide properly and the whole process won't work. I discovered this when I tried to use it immediately after getting out of the shower so I ended up putting some baby powder on the tool first as suggested in other reviews. In conclusion, I still have to work out a way to get my shoes on but as for getting my socks on, I should have bought this years ago. 5Info not accurate. No good for folks with wide feet. I have a sock aid that cracked so I bought this to replace it. The broken one was 5 inches wide. Fit my wide feet. This one states 5 inches wide but doesn't stipulate it is 5 inches wide at the base and only maybe 4 inches at the toe. Could get my foot in the base area but not the toe area so this proved useless for me. I will order another on this site that I had before that is 5 inches wide on both ends! 1Great helperThe more you use it the easier it becomes. Compression socks take a bit of an effort to master but other than that this little device is easy to use and a great help. Been using it for about 2 weeks now and probably takes less time to put socks on now than struggling before from bad hips, bad knees and overweight issues. Hardest issue was to find a "home" for it so it was accessible to both of us. The knots at the end holding it to the slide are large & heavy enough that they won't pull through. The thick grips make it easy to pull evenly. The grip pad on the outside of the slide helps keep the sock in place but doesn't interfere by holding the sock back when pulling the slide up. 5Still a struggle, but better than not using a sock aid at all. After I heard how my parents were struggling with my dad's compression socks, I sent them one of these in the hopes it would help. (Yes, I said "parents", as in it's a 2-person job to get the socks on every day...)Since they'll never write a review themselves, I'm relaying their feedback here.---It's helpful, but it doesn't take all the drama away. They still have to fight with the armor-plated sock to get it stretched over the plastic tunnel part.---Once you get the sock stretched over the plastic, you still need to be very flexible in order to grab the rope handles. If you have trouble touching your toes when seated, you're still going to have some challenges with this device.---The plastic is not sharp on the edges as i'd feared, and once you get your foot in and the handles situated, it does make the job of stuffing your leg into the sock a little easier. Instead of a 20 minute battle, it's more like a 10 minute battle.FYI---There seemed to be a ton of different brands on Amazon for what looked like essentially the same sock aid---I didn't have a particular reason for choosing this brand over any other, but the price was reasonable, and there were some positive reviews. 4
