Stop living in pain!I suffered a bilateral SI Joint injury lifting a patient 11 years ago in my early 20s. After having the nerves burned in the joints a couple times, the last time (8 years ago) I received no relief. I have some degree of pain all day every day, it s my normal. If I hit a certain weight, I d have debilitating pain. I was told that when I got pregnant, it d be painful to carry (understatement of the year let me tell you). My OB recommended me to physical therapy after I was having such bad pain I could barely move at the end of the night; the therapist mentioned the Serola Belt. I had an SI belt probably about 10 years ago, and it was junk. Not this belt! When I tried on the sample at the PT office, I tried to buy it off them... I begged. I wear it all day over my clothes from the time I get dressed until I go to bed (as I get bigger I m sure I ll wear it to bed). My husband hasn t had to help hold me up at all and I no longer have sharp crippling pain. I LOVE that I can easily adjust the tightness by loosening the side straps, so when I sit and it s a little uncomfortable across the baby bump I don t have to take it off to adjust. I still have pain (my SI Joints weren t the only thing I jacked up 11 years ago) but the Serola Belt has eased the pain enough that I m back to mobile like before I was pregnant. This was 100% worth the money! And if mine wears out at some point I won t hesitate to replace it.** Please note, the Serola Belt won t help with every type of lower back pain. My husband has a fusion and a small amount SI Joint issues, he doesn t get the same relief as I do, because his pain originates from the vertebrae and NOT the SI Joint. Best bet is to see your Dr and ask if they list any of the items listed for the belt you should notice some relief, instantly. So skip the google search unless you want to spend the money to find out the google diagnosis is incorrect ** 5Easy to use.So, 2015 was not a great year for my back... The pain started few backs in 2014, driving the car I would notice an uncomfortable spot on my back, where I had to put pressure on it to relieve it. Then at work, I picked up some heavy items, the next day my back was hurting really bad. My doctor said there was nothing wrong with me. A few weeks later and nothing was getting better, I placed pressure with my hands on my muscles on the back and noticed that one side was shot. I noticed that while walking, one side was not moving at all (muscles on back). Spoke to a few other people about my issue, and they recommended this Sacroiliac belt. I used it and it seemed to provide some relief for walking. I ended up going to the chiropractor and he too recommend i get one belt, which I already had. He made some tests and said some term...don't remember, just that my legs where not straight. At first I used this thing very tight, but you are not suppose to wear it very tight. Needs to be comfortable, I stopped using it for a week or so because it was hurting me. So when I saw my chiropractor again, he explained how to use it properly. Your back is really important, take care of it at the first sign of problems. I was 34 years at the time, and never thought about having issues with my back, but it happened. From back pain it went to sciatic nerve pain... Am all good now, I used this belt, and another one for the back. Also used Devil's Claw supplement, which I believed helped. Over all, a good buy to take care of your health. 4Poor Quality Control in these new Serola BeltsI have been using a Serola SI Belt for over 10 yrs. (I have actually spoken with Dr. Serola on the phone many moons ago and he was kind enough to listen to my medical issues and give me some insight into what's going on with my unique back/hip issues.) So I am partial to these Serola belts and I replace them about every 4 to 6 months when they lose their support. Up until recently I have never had any issue with the belts until the last two I ordered in March and June. The first belt had very short straps and I was barely able to pull them forward and get them to fasten in front of my hip bones. Since I rely on these belts on a daily basis I pulled and pulled and was finally able to stretch the elastic strap so it would fasten in front of my hip bones. Nevertheless I was frustrated with this belt so I ordered another 3 months later and this belt has the exact opposite problem. The straps are so long that I can get them to touch in front directly under my navel. This offers very little support because I can't get them to tighten. I'm not sure what is going on with the manufacturing process but these last two belts are very poorly made. I really hope you get this quality control issue resolved or I will begin looking at other SI Belt manufacturer.Tim 1Best SI belt according to Doctor of PTFabulous belt, great pain relief! My chiro rec. getting SI belt - I bought this one based on Amazon reviews. PT was shocked I found the "best" SI belt on my own! I wear it under clothes when I can, as it stays in place better & you don't have to remove it to use the restroom. If you put it on tight enough to start, it doesn't wrinkle. Does add some bulk, so when self conscious, I wear it over clothes. Helps me a lot. I thought I would need it less as the PT progressed, but I think I still need it for stabilization, esp. when anticipating doing a lot of bending. Be sure to wear it low, as directed and straight, not angled like the old style back brace belts. 5I thought it would be good to keep a backup in the carI have Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so I have some serious instability of my pelvis. I was using a cheap-o SI belt for a few years and it helped but constantly slipped and then would cause more problems from slipping. I always try to drive with an SI belt to minimize damage from bumpy roads but sometimes I forget to put it on before I leave. I thought it would be good to keep a backup in the car. So, I decided I could take the plunge for this one (it had been on my wishlist for some time) so I could retire my cheap one as backup. I'm very happy I did. This one stays put, is comfortable, and gives great support. The only downside so far is that because my shoulders are extremely unstable, I have a hard time tightening the belt without dislocating my shoulders. But doing almost anything does that, so it isn't really a fault of the belt. Anyway, I definitely recommend this one. 5Best Made Belt, Immediate Relief, Improves Hip Strength (get the NEW version)After trying a few, this is the most comfortable, best made, and least ugly belt of the bunch. It is absolutely enabling me to recover and strengthen.Made by a chiropractor who has iterated on the design for a couple decades. This belt is more flexible that the standard disposable white belts,, works in water and during workouts. I play competitive squash and wear it under my skirt. I wear it outside of clothes or inside...it works either way for me.HOW TO WEAR:Short video on how to place the belt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIdOLp5ByWUInitially I was wearing it a bit too high. You bend your knee up and the belt should sit level with the start of your thigh.INSTANT RELIEF:I have spinal stenosis, unstable pelvis, and pain radiating down my leg. The pain kept me from walking. This belt immediately made activity possible again. Working with chiro and spine docs, I'll be wearing it 3 weeks, and then I might just wear it during really tough match play.RESEARCH - STABALIZES JOINT SO YOU CAN IMPROVE HIP STRENGTH:A Si belt is different from belts that take over muscle duty- it supports the hips like an external ligament so the joint stabalizes and the muscles can work better. That means more movement and rehab!Video on the theory of the belt: Serola Belt Benefits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Jk8YzGEpM-----------------------------------------Here is some research by Precision Biomechanics detailing how the belt helps improve strength.(google Case Study: Sacral Belt Improves Hip Stability during Running)http://www.precisionbiomechanics.com.au/#!Case-Study-Sacral-Belt-Improves-Hip-Stability-during-Running/c18si/879ACB32-62FA-430D-9E2E-B92875E0C258The spine is connected to the pelvis via the sacroiliac joints. Any loads transferred from the lower limbs to the spine must pass through these joints therefore joint dysfunction can cause significant pain especially during dynamic activities such as running. Despite their frequent use, very little scientific evidence exists documenting the effectiveness of sacral belts during running. Studies have confirmed their ability to reduce load in the sacroiliac joint tendons and ligaments (Sichting et al. 2014), and to engage hip stabilising muscles during supine leg raise activities (Park et al. 2010), but to our knowledge no study has assessed their effect on running kinematics. Here at Precision Biomechanics we provide perhaps some of the first quantitative evidence for the efficacy of sacral belts at improving hip stability during running. An athlete experiencing feelings of subjective pelvic instability whilst running recently visited Precision Biomechanics. Below is a series of graphs illustrating her hip function whilst running both with and without a sacral belt. When running without the belt (left graphs) large asymmetries were observed in her peak hip collapse and peak pelvis drop, with motion increased and decreased on her right and left sides respectively compared to our database of runners. When wearing the belt (right graphs) significant improvements were observed; peak hip collapse and peak pelvis drop on the left and right sides became symmetrical.Given where the belt sits around the pelvis, it is unlikely that the belt holds the runners hips in place or takes over the role of the hip stabilising muscles. Instead, it is more likely that the belt provides proprioceptive feedback prompting the runner to switch on her stabilising muscles. The belt may therefore be a very useful training tool for improving hip strength. 5Loved it so much I needed two to make sure I always have itSo, I just bought a second belt. The first one is about a year old and is in great shape. Bought a second one so I will always have one handy. I enjoy strenuous exercise. I sweat all over this thing. And yes, it stays in place. The reason I wear it is because I have two slipped discs and an annular tear way down in L5 and S1. The injury is over 4 years old and I chose to try strengthening exercises over a lamiotomy. The belt helps me get through 12 hour shifts. There has been a lot of trial and errors at finding what causes flare up and what helps. My doctor just rolls his eyes when he hears what I am up to, but he advises me to wear my belt as much as I can and ensures me that it does not weaken muscles and will help prevent flare ups. I live with pain every day, but it is bearable and way better. This belt, along with specific stretching exercises has really improved my quality of life. I panic if I can't find it! 5Stabilizes the area and relieves some of the pain! When I first threw my back out, I purchased a lumbar brace at Walmart. What I found was that I kept wanting to wear it lower, and the elastic in the brace kept making it slide up, especially when I sat down. When I reinjured it this year, I discovered it's my sacroiliac joint not my vertebrae. Chiropractor, piriformis muscle stretches, lying on a foam roller in just the right spot, and this belt quickly resolved an issue that kept me out of work for a week last year. Wear it under your clothes. Put it very low and where it feels not too tight. And then pull the auxiliary straps as tight as you can. Really helps secure the area so it doesn't slip out again. Lets me get thru the day. I was also having trouble when I tried to roll over while sleeping. I read somewhere else to take the memory foam topper off the mattress, and I do recall that my lower back hurt somewhat when I first put it on the bed. I would roll over and get stuck flat on my back, and then I couldn't get out of bed or up from the toilet - anything that involved leaning forward... This belt helped resolve my issue with only two trips to the chiropractor, rather than two weeks of appointments. 5After nothing else worked, this belt gave me pain relief! After an SI joint injury from playing high school football, I didn't have any further problems until I started playing golf several years later. Then I was diagnosed with impingements in both hips. After two surgeries, including many months of rehab each, I was still having pain. I stopped golfing entirely, went to the chiropractor and physical therapy regularly, took anti-inflammatory drugs daily, and still couldn't manage the pain I was having in my pelvis. While trying to find exercises particularly designed for alleviating SI pain, I found about the SI belts. After some research I decided to try this one, and it has worked wonders. I am now completely pain free (while still exercising and seeing the chiropractor bi-weekly) and have even started to golf again without the pain coming back! This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. As an added bonus, the belt fits comfortably and is unnoticeable under clothing. 5... this to help with scare-iliac pain and it was recommended by a chiropractorI purchased this to help with scare-iliac pain and it was recommended by a chiropractor. The pain is still there but this does seem to help when being very active & when being sedentary, forced to sit in a car or plane for a couple of hours. Comfortable and well designed and I can't think of any improvements in design. I wear it whenever I think there will be undue stress on the joint either through intense activity or too little, but not about the house. The only slight drawback is that when positioned correctly to help the SI joint, it makes pockets hard to access but that is a small price for less pain 4
