Great Heavy Duty CarrierGreat Heavy Duty Carrier! I looked at a lot of these type carriers and read a lot of reviews. In my opinion this is by far the best ramp. If you compare the weight ratings of all the similar carriers they are pretty much all rated at 400 lbs. This carrier has 3 rails down the middle, not counting the outside rails. Other units have 2 rails and there are even some with only 1 rail down the middle. If you have more supporting structural members then it is going to be stronger than if you have less. Some reviews of the other carriers complained that the ramp would bend under the weight of their scooter, and their scooter was well under the max weight rating. Not so with this unit! 5It seems well built and sturdy. Assembly instructions were poor and someone not mechanically ...I've used this carrier for several days now to carry a mobility scooter. It seems well built and sturdy. Assembly instructions were poor and someone not mechanically inclined would have a real problem. Certain parts are not even mentioned in the instructions. The rubber "grommets" around the larger grip holes on the carrier are useless and come off the moment they are used. I mounted the carrier on a Subaru Outback and it does bottom out and drag sometimes. It would be nice to have it a touch higher. But it does work as described. I don't think I'd put the rated max of 500# on it, but it is fine for under 200#.It comes with two reflectors, but they are not covered in the instructions. I put them on and added four more reflectors since the carrier does stick out pretty far. It's actually significantly wider than I need for a scooter. 4worth it for sureI purchased this for my mother's scooter. Got it the day before our trip to DC, I un-boxed it, put together a couple of things, installed on truck and it was done. It worked easily every time and got my money's worth on the first week of our summer vacation. yes ---5 stars !!!!!! 5Good Ramp for my needs.I needed something to bring my wood chipper from the house to some property we purchased. After looking at many options I went with this model. Like others, I noted first that the Spring pins for the Ramp don't line up quite right, but adjusting the bracket attached to the base fixes that (plus I did a little filing of the holes. The Chipper is about 165lbs and my car (2010 Honda Crosstour) has a high backend so I have not had issues with it bottoming out. I also have not had any issues with movement or play at the hitch receiver, in fact, it's so tight it's a challenge to get it off the hitch. I've only been using it for a few days, but so far it works perfectly for my needs. Whether it lasts a long time, only time will tell but it seems sturdy enough. 4Good value for moneyWe purchased the carrier for use behind our car when we went on vacation this year. We normally use the pickup for moving the scooter so we needed the carrier for the car.As a carrier, it is built to a price but the quality is above average and much better than what is available at the discount importers here in town but it is still light to light/med duty and the tubing reflects this. It is not designed to carry a train locomotive but for a power chair or power scooter under 200 to 250 pounds (yes it is rated for more than that) it serves well. I stood on the carrier after the scooter was loaded and it still felt OK so it should hold it's rated weight without issue.There are only a few things to assemble as it is nearly complete as shipped.As others have said, the liners for the cutouts in the frame are only loose in the holes so within minutes the first one had fallen out. To save hasle I just removed all the rest at that time. They are not really missed.The unit is easy to use and the folding feature is nice when the platform is not in use with a wheelchair or scooter.Our biggest issue is that we put it on a sedan not a SUV or truck so the carrier was low to the ground after it was loaded and more times than not it drug on the ground when going in and out of driveways etc. Loaded, the back of the carrier was only about 8 inches off the ground but because it extended so far past the rear wheels, the slightest bump or driveway caused it to drag on the ground.If your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket suspension such as HyJackers or air adjustable shocks you then can raise the car to reduce the dragging.Another thing is that it is designed to fit into a 2 inch hitch while most trailer hitches for cars are class 1 and are not big enough to hold the carrier. This caused me the additional trouble of designing and making an adaptor to fit the platform to the hitch. There are commercially made adaptors but they would have caused the platform to stick behind the car another roughly 8 inches, making the drag issue even worse.I would say that if you have average DIY skills and your going to mount the carrier to a SUV or similar vehicle with a 2 inch hitch then this unt should work well for you.The platform is not as nice to use as the power lift we have installed on the pickup truck but then again this platform is only 1/10 the price of the power lift while performing the same job manually. 4Not as heavy duty as I expected!I read a lot of reviews that this was heavy duty but found quite the oposite. Tge expanded metal on the floor is way too thin to hold a scooter and strap it down. I have taken it on two trips and it has bowed down a good two inches. I am going to have to reinforce under the expanded metal so it can take the scooter and tge strapping force along with the crappy roads! 2The directions were in English and easy to followThis is an honest review and I was not paid or given a discount on this item.I bought this for my grandmother's electric cart. My son and I put it together with basic hand tools, adjustable wrench, and pliers. It took about 30 min to put it together so on a scale of 1-10 (10 hard) it was a 4. All went smooth with the assembly and we did not have to modify any part of it. There were no missing or extra pieces. The directions were in English and easy to follow. The locks for folded up and at a 90 work great and are easy to use.Once it was assembled it was easy, heavy but easy to install onto the truck. after jumping around on it and retighten all the bolts it was very stable. Loading was easy and on the first trip was a success. I put two straps on it in a "X" shape and it did not move or bounce. On the highway, we got up to 70 mph and no problem.Pro:1. Easy to assemble.2. Well built and solid construction.3 Anti bounce bracket included and locking bolts so it will not sway.4. easy to take on and off.5. Great in town and on the highway.Con:1. steep ramp, the no flip wheels on cart drag going up and had to give it a push.2. weighs 65 lbs heavy to take on and off.3. If you plan on leaving on the car or outside you should buy spray paint and repaint for a thick coat. It has a thin coat of paint. Two cans of black Rustoleum $6 will fix this.Would buy the same item if I had to replace (stolen). 5Works well, but needs better rust protection.It works well on my minivan with a few small issues. You can't open the tailgate when it's up and it covers the license plate. In my van it is hard to see it from the driver's side while driving. Not a real problem , but worth knowing.Made solid it was fairly easy to install. The instructions are straight forward if you follow them. It holds my large four wheel mobility scooter easily. It's simple to use and the gate isn't heavy . I can lift it while sitting in my wheelchair.The one complaint I have is a big one. I've had to paint it with rust inhibitor already. The powder coating on it is a joke. We live in a humid climate and it started to rust almost out of the box. 4OK if you feel like re-engineering to make it work.This company must not have any quality control. Threads on several bolts were mashed and had to be reworked. Ramp bracket is a little bent and the double spring pull pin does not match with the bracket on the ramp to hold it upright. Have to do a little re-engineering to make it work. The powder coat paint is not that good when you have chips in the paint and this thing will be outside in the weather. It will start rusting very quick. Mounted on the back of my van, the unit sits sideways, low towards the ramp side. There is no way to get it to sit level. I thought I would be getting something better than this but since I am going on a trip in 3 days I am going to have to live with it. Too late to get another unit. I will not buy another like this one and would not recommend it to anyone. 2Outstanding valueThis platform is great! The hitch on my car is a class one so I got an adapter and the related appropriate cotter pins to attach this platform to my class one hitch.The adapter I use raises up the whole platform by a little more than half a foot and that helps, since very bottom of the platform does scrape the road going in my driveway. I m currently using one U-shaped clamp for the 2 section on the adapter but I definitely need to get a U-shaped clamp that ll fit the end of the class one end of the class one hitch. The should reduce the minor shake of the platform while driving.You need to be patient with the assembly directions. Whenever it seemed like a bolt was missing, or the directions weren t clear, it ALWAYS turned out to be pilot error. We occasionally misinterpreted the directions!!!My scooter is probably about 200-250 lbs, and the platform is level and secure as delivered. The U clamps do make a MAJOR improvement in stability and for 5 bucks each, a GREAT investment.I d recommend this platform, paid for it myself, and glad I have it!!! :) 5
