Best shape and foamShape: the D cross-section is better than the round cross-section (it stays in place better) and the flat cross section (it allow a precise pressure point).Foam: high resilience foam is very comfortable and maintains push back on your spine indefinitely, other cheaper foam yield under steady pressure and end up providing no support after a few minutes. 5Don't sit at a desk all day without one!Purchased to improve posture and decrease stress on my neck while sitting at a desk at work. I suffer from chronic neck pain due to C5 and C6 stenosis with a bulging disk. I keep the McKenzie lumbar roll around the lower part of my office chair at work.As the day goes by, I found that I would start sitting more slumped over. I starting experiencing increased pain to my neck daily.I purchased the lumbar roll as a recommendation by my physical therapist. I worried that the lumbar roll would make my chair uncomfortable and would cause me to sit an odd way but it's the opposite. My chair is much more comfortable now. I feel like I'm sitting in more natural position. I've experienced less frequent flares ups of pain. The cushioned part of this roll is not too big, has Velcro on the straps so you can secure it around a chair. The straps seem long enough to fit just about any size chair. Highly recommend this for anyone suffering back or neck problems already or for anyone that sits at a desk most their day. 5Way to thick for the average backFirst of all I'm returning this item as it is not very practical to use in a vehicle while driving. This item is only one half as thick of a couple of their other offerings and it is still way too thick to be comfortable for your back. Purchased it to be used in the drivers seat of my SUV. It comes with one attachment strap and it's NOT a solid piece of nylon, but an elastic strap and too flimsy to keep it in place on the back of the seat cushion. One has to readjust position every time you enter the car and get into the drivers seat. My chiropractor has since told me that what I need should be of a molded type or just use a couple of oven mitts and put behind by back. I would look at other options before buy this product 1making my symptoms feel worse. I found that a memory foam lumbar support ...I'm currently managing the symptoms of a lumbar radiculopathy, most likely due to a (or multiple) herniated lumbar disc(s). Lumbar support is key for me to be able to sit through the day at work. Unfortunately, this lumbar pillow did not work for me. Despite its lower profile compared to the other McKenzie pillows, it was still too large for me (I'm 5'0 and 110 lbs, for reference). It over-arched my back and put too much pressure on one particular area of my spine, making my symptoms feel worse. I found that a memory foam lumbar support pillow works much better for me and it has been helping me tremendously to get over this pesky radiculopathy. In particular, I have been using the Memory Foam Cushion by Everlasting Comfort for the past 2-3 months while at the office, driving, on longer flights, etc. and I absolutely love it. Check that pillow out if this one also hasn't worked for you. 1Make it slimmer so it will work for me. Offer more choices. Very Well made.Excellent Quality, Wish it was not made so thick. Seller should consider offering various thickness. One thickness it all won't work.I felt more pain after use. I really need this kind of product that will shape to my comfort. I guess lumber support is like Foot orthodics that must custom design to fit you. For some people it may work very well. Thickness is close to 2.5", i could have been okay with 1.5".So i tried and return. I thank you for making a great quality and well designed. Just need more slimmer choices. 3Makes some awful chairs less awfulI have a herniated disc in my lumbar spine that's being very pesky. It might come down to surgery for me. The super roll was recommended to me by my physical therapist. I use it the most at home at the kitchen table or at my desk, in the car, at church, and in some restaurants. For reference, I am 31 years old and before my back injury, a fairly active person. This roll is most effective in the car, where I think a lot of seats are designed for slouching.Sometimes if the chair you're using is an odd shape, this will be hard to use. I've found the strap that it comes with to be hard to tighten easily and more trouble than it's worth. I pretty much just carry the pad around by itself. It won't solve your back pain, but it will make some uncomfortable situations better. It does force you into better posture. The instructions note that it might seem uncomfortable at first, but that you should stick with it. This is true! Don't give up or think you've been had if at first the positions are odd. It pretty much forces you into better posture and over time that posture will become more familiar and therefore comfortable. The velcro on the back of the pad is the scratchy side of velcro, so if you're using it without the strap, make sure you don't snag a nice chair. If the chair isn't too fancy and has a little cloth, this will help hold it in place a little if, like me, you aren't using the strap. Good luck! 4Thick lumbar support pad, rather expensive - try it for your body's posture and car seat. This is hard for me to review. The roll is well-made, with good exterior fabric and a quality interior foam pad. But it was much too thick for my back in any of my cars. If I had an older American car or truck with a totally-mashed-down seat, it might have worked all right, but with our current fleet, it was much too thick. I contacted OPTP to inquire if they had a thinner foam insert, but the customer agent did not have any solution (or care?) even though I said I was trying to save them the cost of product return. At close to $45 total, I sent it back. In summary, thick pad, so try on for size. It might be fine for you.My PT technician showed me the better solution: take an old towel and roll it up. Experiment with thickness. Then wrap some masking or blue painter tape to hold the roll together. Instant cheap lumbar pad. 3Chiropractor's review, this is awfulI'm a Chiropractor and I was experimenting with different options for my patients and came across this. I'm 5' 9", 190 lbs. and otherwise in good shape. The basic rule is that you should keep a "neutral" spine, which means keeping your lumbar spine slightly curved, just enough so that you can slide your hands behind your back if you were standing against a wall. Part of this neutral curve is a slight tilting forward of your pelvis (imagine you had a flag sticking up out of your pelvis, tilt your pelvis so that flag points slightly forward and you will notice your lumbar spine slightly curves in response to this). This biomechanical "coupling" of your hips and lumbar spine is important and just increasing the lumbar spine's lordosis alone is detrimental. This is why those high end office chairs have seat pans which slightly tilt down in the front.Part of the issue with this pad is that it's not tall enough, thus not providing support along the entire lumbar spine. Because it's not tall enough it feels uncomfortable and doesn't form fit the entire lumbar spine. I suspect it also causes a greater angle at the spinal segments where it is placed, possibly causing more pressure on the facet joints, this was supported by feeling soreness in this region after a 30 minute car ride with this in place. Firmness isn't really there as well, it's quite compressible but it still provides some support, if it was taller it might be acceptable. But you really don't need much for proper spine alignment and most of these cushions push you out way too far. It's also too wide to fit into a car seat. Most car seats outer sides taper in to support the body and this causes the roll to dig into your flanks and becomes uncomfortable very quickly. Overall in my professional opinion the makers of this missed proper biomechanics. It may be suitable for some, possibly a smaller framed person. 1Good for me, probably not for everyoneThis is exactly what I needed for my office chair and my specific back problems, but be warned, this is very stiff, it has little to no give. I imagine for that reason, it's not for everyone. It is also overpriced for what it is. I am not saying it is of poor quality, it's just a very small, very simple product that should be $19.99 at best. I also think this should come in at least three colors, not just gray. The vast majority of executive office chairs are black, so it should definitely come in black. There should also be some sort of light color option, like a beige. 4Wonderful!I have a terrible tendency to slouch, especially while sitting at my desk at work. My physical therapist recommended this product and even made me go into her office and try hers out. Once I sat down in her chair, I did NOT want to get up! I knew I had to have one. Now that I have it, I can tell a huge difference in how I sit. This Super Roll will not let me slouch, which results in less back pain. It comes with an adjustable strap that will hold it in the right place on multiple types of chairs. I highly recommend this for anyone with back pain. It is definitely worth a try! 5
