Customer Reviews

THINOPTICS R CK !!!!Honestly- I Love this product !!!! Case is awesome too - I ordered 2nd pair for on the go already - they fit top to bottom on the nose // easy n quick to put on and take off and put away !!! Highly recommend customer for life 5Nice glasses... deceptive claims.Very nice glasses. Small and easy to use. The only reason these did not get more stars is the INCREDIBLY misleading packaging. On the box is a message "FREE Replacement Glasses Forever" and on the case is a note "Activate your Free Replacement Glasses forever..." (see picture) unfortunately this is only an extension of the basic 90 day warrantee again defects as it specifically states:"This Warranty does not apply: (a) to damage caused by use with another product; (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse or misuse, including, but not limited to, scratches and broken lenses; or (c) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the Product."Not much of a free replacement claim. Very misleading!! 3Customer Service Is Practically Non-Existent & SLOW. Avoid Unless You Like Being Ignored.UPDATE 4 - 08/28/18I received the glasses as promised, but they were the wrong strength. I wear 1.5 and they sent 1.0. I emailed them back a week ago about this, but have yet to hear a single word from them. It seems poor communication is a staple of the company.Had they given me a way to speak directly to Mona, the one, single person who seemed to both care and know what she was doing, then perhaps I could've gotten a satisfactory resolution. Instead, I'm relegated to emailing their general support email address and waiting on some mouth breather to tell me something useless, just like they always do.I wish I'd never upgraded the star rating because it was just false hopes. I got better service from the now-defunct seller offering counterfeit glasses than I get with the actual company.I don't care how "great" or "innovative" or "useful" your products are - Without customer support to back it up you're nothing. ThinOptics is nothing. I cannot wait for competitors to arise so I can buy their products instead. I'm done with this slug of a company.UPDATE 3 - 08/16/2018Received an email from "Mona" with ThinOptics to inform me the seller, Muchmuch, was selling counterfeit glasses. The storefront has now been shut down by Amazon. Mona is sending me 2 pair of authentic ThinOptics for me to try. I've raised my rating from 1 star to 3 for the promising news. Rating to be adjusted after I receive the glasses and try them for a few weeks. To be honest, it shouldn't have taken so much back-and-forth via email to get to this point. I had provided full order details when I began this issue with ThinOptics. For every "Mona" working customer service there are a dozen idiots who either don't know or don't care. Unfortunately, I had to deal with an idiot for much of this ordeal.ThinOptics would do well to eliminate the dead weight that drives customers away. I was done with them until Mona came into the picture. Had she, or someone as informed and caring as her, been involved from the start I would've had a pleasant customer experience instead of 2+ weeks of arguing with a person who makes bricks look smart.UPDATE 2 - 08/15/2018When I challenged ThinOptics on their reply (discussed in 1st update below) they began to backtrack on their claims. Then they offered me a free replacement, which, while nice, doesn't address the defective design that will cause every pair sold to become scratched.BUT, what kills the entire deal is THEY WANT ME TO PAY $5.00 SHIPPING FOR MY "FREE" PAIR!No way, no how, not ever. Ain't gonna happen, ThinOptics. You've gotten my last penny and I will never again use your products. I advise everyone to stay away from these charlatans unless you like cheap products with a defective design, poor customer service, and lies when you try to get help.UPDATE 08/15/2018After emailing ThinOptics I finally received a reply nearly 2 weeks later. The contents of said reply caused me to drop another star from my rating. It was clear the person replying didn't even read my message as most of their reply was telling me how to clean the lenses. They claim the rim of the glasses "should" protect it against being scratched by the case, but I, and every ThinOptics owner, knows this is not true. The case has continued to scratch my lenses and while they're only 1 month & 1 day old they're almost too scratched to use any more.Look for something else, please! This is a fantastic idea that was poorly executed. I had hope until their lackadaisical "customer support" sent a canned response that simply reiterated how to care for the lenses. I've been wearing glasses of one kind or another for 50+ years and know how to take care of polycarbonate lenses.Mine have never been touched by anything except the case and they get more and more scratches. I've had 6 engineers at work look at them (not telling them what I thought was the source of the scratches) and every single one agreed it was the hard plastic case that is the culprit. I'll take the word of 6 licensed engineers plus my own observations over apathetic customer support any day. These engineers used science to make their conclusions and science deals in fact, not is supposition.--------------------------While I loved these glasses overall, I had to ding them 2 stars for their propensity to be scratched by the same case they're meant to be stored in. I have attached a picture of mine after 13 days of ridiculously good care. I have never touched the lenses or wiped the lenses, only blown the dust off (and you can see dust in the picture!). I want to give them 5-stars, but because of this I just can't.I hope you'll take my comments at face value. They're meant to be my honest opinions and findings after having them for almost 2 weeks. It's not my intention to shame anyone, just to give honest feedback. Also, I am not advertising for these glasses, but I have high praise in so many areas.PROS:They're relatively affordable. I paid $14.44 for these +1.50 readers. The idea behind these glasses is simple, but genius. They're ultra-thin reading glasses that grip your nose gently, but steadily. They're advertised as being thinner than a nickel, and they definitely are - by a noticeable amount. tl:dr They're THIN.The bridge is a very flexible, "springy" wire covered by a clear plastic sleeve. They'll bend/fold almost any way you like and return to shape. Don't do this because you'll just smudge and/or scratch the lenses. Besides, I assume you're sane and would never do this, but you do you. From a standpoint of weight and comfort, you quickly forget you're even wearing glasses - They are that comfortable. They're so light you hardly feel them. I've taken them to work and just kept them on most of the day because they can sit low enough on the nose to not obscure distance viewing, but still provide a handy and unobtrusive reading area.Stability on your nose bridge is great. I have a very high, thin nose and bridge and I have very oily skin, especially my nose. I work outside and even on a sweaty day, these glasses hold tightly to my thin, greasy nose. (Sorry about the mental image.) The only way I've gotten them to move is if I "crinkle" my nose, like what happens if you smile. So remain somber and they won't move, slide, or possibly fall off.I used the included non-residue adhesive to stick the case to the back of my phone while traveling, where it remained adhered as if it were part of the phone itself. When I returned home, I removed the case and the adhesive strip with relative ease. I'm currently storing the strip between two pieces of wax paper and stored in a plastic zipper bag, which seem to work perfectly as a place to store for future need. (I removed mine because I use a wireless charger at home and the extra thickness kept that from working)I can place the case in my back pocket and literally forget it's there, but it's easy to retrieve.CONS:Really only one complaint - They scratch easily and the very case they're sent in (shown in their picture for the glasses) does most, of the scratching! The lenses are advertised as being hard, and I'm sure they are, but the case material, combined with the sharp edges of the envelope-thin case scratched my pair within the first 24 hours. The edges need to be smoothed and the case REALLY needs a liner. Really, seriously, now. I'll take a thicker case if it's lined with something less conducive to scratching the lenses. The design and function of this very idea is too good to mess up with a case that scratches them. I know you want to keep everything thin, but if it's at the expense of your product retaining its full performance potential then people will stop buying them.I don't want to stop buying them, but I also don't want to have to buy a pair every 2-4 weeks just so I don't have to look through a web of scratches. ThinOptics, please consider redesigning that case. I love these glasses, but the scratching is a deal-breaker. They're a wonderful little product, but some minor but important tweaks need to be made.It has now been 13 days that I've owned this pair and I have never touched the lenses in any way 1Be realistic in your expectations with these glasses, they are complementary to "armed" glasses not replacements. You have to be realistic in your expectations with these glasses, they are complementary to "armed" glasses not replacements.Pros;1. These are so easy to take with you as the glasses and case are barely larger than a credit card and they are flexible.2. Where armed glasses are impractical or inconvenient these can be the solution as long as they will stay on your nose.3. They look stylish or at least they are innocuous.4. So light there is no fatigue5. No arms to cause irritation.6. Their durability is a function of their extremely light weight. I have dropped mine many times and while they have developed scratches the glasses still function.7. Very quick and easy to put them on and take them off.8. No nose sliding and pushing back into place.Cons;1. While these are surprising in their tenacity they will fall off if you are moving around, make sudden head movements or do anything that causes your nose to wrinkle e.g. sneezing, coughing, laughing or yawning.2. When they fall off there is not much warning.3. I haven't mastered putting them on the way I want them the first time so I need to adjust them a few times.4. The level of moisturizer or oil on your nose will affect the grip of the glasses so try giving your nose bridge a wipe with a tissue or paper towel to reduce that affect. The most satisfying place I have used ThinOptics to replace armed glasses is when I am in bed reading or watching my tablet. They become invisible because there is no intrusion of any kind, no ear irritation from arms, no visible frame when I get them set right, no fatigue and they stay in place.I am satisfied with these however it is important to understand they will not replace armed glasses. 3Love the convenience - but not the scratchesThese are well worth the price just for the convenience. I must have 10 pairs of reading glasses sitting around but often find myself without them, particularly in a restaurant. These stick to the back of my iPhone and are unnoticeable. I used different double sided stick tape than what was shipped with them and have had no issues at all with them coming loose. I bought a second pair for my hubby's android phone.UPDATE: I've had these a little more than six months, so I wanted to revisit my review on these. I still love them! I love that when I forget my regular reading glasses, I still have these, as my phone is always with me. I have only one issue. Over time, they have gotten scratched up by being taken out of and placed into the plastic case they are stored in. It has started to affect how I see through them. The pair I bought for my husband also has the same type of scratches. The is the only drawback of having these. I have continually recommended these to people but have warned them about the scratching. If they come out with a case that is lined with felt or some other soft material, I would probably purchase another pair. I'm attaching a photo of how the scratches look. 5Good idea...poor manufacturingI was a believer in these glasses, but I already have had 2 pairs break at the bridge after a short time and with minimal use. 2Think twice...Pkg. Arrived today, the sleeve containing the product clearly taped closed. Glasses were inside the sleeve but out of their thin carry case, and scratched in numerous places. Pkg advertises free replacements...fine, one more phone call to make then wait who knows how many days. Nope, not to be. The 844-484-4667 number on the package has a recording telling you they can't take your call at this time. Yes, I tried several times. Fooey on them! All those positive reviews are meaningless when you're the one who gets damaged merchandise and they don't answer their published number. Double fooey. Out $20 and some time and frustration. Shame on you thinoptics. 1Worst glasses I have bought!First star for quality:1- The nose "pads" feel more like a grater and are extremely uncomfortable. One must be very, very careful removing them from the nose because of the risk of scratching it.2- As they are always on the back of the phone, last Sunday I put them on the golf cart while playing 18 holes. By the time we ended, the glasses were broken. Nobody touched them, just the minor vibrations of the cart forced one end of the nose bridge out of one of the glasses.3- The vibration of the golf cart also take them out of their phone sleeve.4- They scratch very easy. Seems like the plastic is low quality.2nd-3rd star for warranty (not shown because I am rating the product):When purchasing these glasses they offer a lifetime warranty. I just finished the process to order new ones and it was very easy. Let's see when I get them. 1WarrantyThe little flange that grips to the nose broke. I thought, great, it has a lifetime warranty, so I will go online and order a replacement. I had registered my pair when I purchased them, so I should be able to get a replacement fairly quickly. The warranty web page has a link to file a warranty claim, but it just links back to the same page. There's a blurb at the top to call customer service for claims, but it goes to a voicemail indicating that someone with contact you in 5-7 days. It has been 13 days and I haven't heard back. I guess I will have to buy some other reading glasses until they decide to honor their warranty. The ThinOptics glasses are not worth the cheap materials, but the warranty made the price palatable; but apparently, the warranty also has little value. 1Product not very durable. Warranty looks worthless (update, they did in fact agree to send replacement)The product is NOT durable. I broke my first one within three months. The second one in about four months. I never abused them. The spring and metal part that attaches the two lenses breaks. Be very careful/gentle when putting back in the case. It's a great idea and I am still tempted to buy another but they wear out too fast. I only used them when I forgot my other glasses. They are perfect for when you need to look at your phone or a menu at a restaurant for example. Also, as I just came back to Amazon to contemplate buying another one, I noticed they now advertise a "Lifetime Replacement Guarantee" which you can read more about here: [...]. That warranty is a joke. First, you must register with them within a limited time period. "Purchasers who purchase by calling ThinOPTICS, use a ThinOPTICS website, or purchased the glasses at a retail outlet and registered with ThinOPTICS within the specified period on the retail package, are covered by a Lifetime Replacement Guarantee that extends the 90 Day Warranty covering your glasses for as long as you own them."Second, it doesn't actually cover anything! "This Warranty does not apply: (a) to damage caused by use with another product; (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse or misuse, including, but not limited to, scratches and broken lenses; or (c) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the Product."It seems like they are trying to pretend this product is durable by giving a lifetime warranty, but by the time you need the warranty, you find out it's worthless. What they really should do is sell a dozen for a discount, then I could care less if they broke (assuming a fair price).4/21/16: UPDATE. I upgraded my review from 2 stars to 4 because they did in fact agree to send me a replacement. Maybe the warranty wording should be changed. I will repeat this: I didn't expect these to last forever, and I know things wear out. I wish they would sell multiples at a discount. I WANT to pay for something that's worth paying for. These are a great idea. They are somewhat fragile, and that's fine if I can get them at a decent price. 4
