All Massagers eventually DIE!!!All Massagers eventually DIE!!!The problem with them is the cords vibrate loose. The first HomMedics I purchased in 2000 lasted 3 years all others I purchased since then lasted 1 year. What happens is the cord vibrates loose and sadly HomMedics seems to have made them cheaper so the cords vibrate loose even faster. The Thumper Mini Pro lasted me 3 years and after all these years I know how to fix them but I purchased a second one anyway. Thumper Mini Pro works beautifully and lasted me 3 years before I had to fix it.So far its the best because like years ago it last much longer than most but they are making you pay for it. Making us pay for quality that used to be giving to all of their products. 5Overpriced and still cheapI have chronic pain and have had it for years. I used the old homedics massager. When it died I bought a new model and immediately returned it due to its lack of power. I found an old model on eBay and have been using it. I believed there had to be a heavier duty model out there. I assumed that for $195 this model would have to be heavy duty. I did my research and saw that this model was heavier than the thumper sport, so I purchased it. I received it today and it lacks power, even on high setting. It overheats quickly and shuts off and stays off for over ten minutes and when the red light finally goes off it only works for less than five mins before it shuts back off. People who are willing to pay this much for a massager are desperate for pain relief and I feel products like this just take advantage of our desperation and hope. I am returning this immediately. 1Big difference in quality between the purple I model and the light green II model. The I rocks the II sucks!Mini thumpers USED TO BE THE BEST QUALITY AROUND, they WERE in a category of their own. I wore out my first one after 7 years of daily use then I wore out 2 more replacements in under 3 months each - now I'm not buying any more. That's not good for a back massager that costs $225 each. They really HAD a good thing going. The were THE BEST - no holds barred (the first model with the purple plastic head), but the new Thunper II models (with the light green plastic head) are no where near as powerful and the bog down quite easily to the point where the get an annoying rattle and eventually die on you in a matter of a few months. Be careful what you order because now the show you the picture of the purple I model but in fact the ship you the light green II model which stinks. 2Dying after only a few uses.I bought this to help relieve some tight calves from cycling. Based off the other reviews I've read, both here and on other sites, this seemed like it would be just what I needed, though there were some persistent complaints about the quality of these units. Still, I decided to take the plunge, and initially I was quite happy with the results. The massager felt good and it helped a lot with my calves.Unfortunately, the unit started crapping out after only a week, and now I have to add my voice to all the complaints. First it just decided to not turn on one day. Played with it the next day and it seemed to come back to life. Then shortly after that it would turn on, but had so little power that it would come to a halt any time you applied a little pressure (much less than it's own weight), rendering it completely useless. Then later it would again revive itself. This unreliability continued for a while, though over the past couple weeks it behaved well enough I had some hope the unit had somehow sorted itself out. That is of course until I tried to turn it on again today and it was completely dead.Maybe it would revive itself again later, but I'm sick of wondering when my purchase will to turn into a $200 dollar paper weight. The unit of course has a manufactures warranty, but if you read the details on that they make it clear you have to pay for shipping, which is stupidly expensive when it's both a heavy and an international package. Luckily, Amazon let me file for a return even though I was just outside their 30 day return window, so A+ customer service from them. As far as the manufacturer goes, I wouldn't bother dealing with them if you are in the states. If they want to reap the benefits of a wider international market, they really need to bear the burden of their own workmanship issues, not foist that off onto the customer. 1Not worth the moneyno longer worth the money...years ago, they had a great product that lasted...then they changed it and the power went down, but also they don't last as long.....the last 2 I've had lasted a short time, and just after the warranty expired and it stopped working, I had to send it to Canada for repair....not only paying for the repair, but also the postage to Canada that was very high when you ship it the way they want. They don't repair in the US... or replace in the US, so you have to send to Canada....terrible....I won't buy again 1If you miss your old HOMEDICS, look no further! UPDATEDI had a homedics massager sorta like this purchased at Costco for much less, years ago. It has been discontinued. When we used it to death I bought a used one on ebay and used that one to death as well. I tried to buy the current homedics model and was sooo disappointed with the weight and power. After much searching, we decided to dig a little deeper in our pockets and try this one. The first Thumper I received became too hot to touch under the switch within 5 minutes of use. I returned it and tried again. The one I have now gets warm in the same place after 20 minutes of use.The weight and heft are similar to my old homedics. The power is also similar. The noise level seems quieter, but the homedics had loose pieces inside making extra noise by the time it died, so who knows? The only drawbacks are 1) less ergonomic design, and 2) only three speeds. The Thumper handle is straight down and has no cushioned pad on the grip. My homedics handle was arched and padded which some how made it less fatiguing to use on someone else. The Thumper has three speeds where the homedics had an infinite sliding toggle for the speeds. This is okay because I usually used it on high anyway and achieve similar results using the Thumper on high as well. Thumper s low speed seems bouncy like pounding fist style massage.Other features one might miss from the homedics are changeable massage nodes and heated massage nodes. I never used these features, so no big loss.Over all I am pleased with quality, weight and power. I use it several times a day sometimes, but usually at least once a day for chronic pain and it is doing the job well. I would recommend.UPDATE: 7/5/19 I have been using this heavily since we bought it with no problem except it did over heat and stop working once after about 30-40 minutes of continuous use. A red light I had never seen before lit up on the side of the handle. I tried letting the unit cool down for an hour before using it again. It did not turn on and the red light was still on. I unplugged and replugged the unit at which time the light was off and the unit began to function normally again, thank goodness. I lost the instructions in a move but I am sure this was in there. IF YOUR THUMPER OVER HEATS TRY LETTING IT COOL OFF WHILE UNPLUGGED BEFORE GIVING UP ON IT. In my opinion this over heat situation covers many of the bad reviews I saw where the Thumper had stopped working. Still a good investment and still recommend! 4Breaks Down Soon and CompletelyI agree with the review "Don't Waste Your Money, It Doesn't Last."I had to send mine in for repairs. Here is the response I EVENTUALLY got, "The diagnosis of your massager is that it needs a new circuit board, motor and a new drive assembly. Everything was covered under warranty except for the drive assembly which is a pro-rated flat fee of $30.00. The total fee to have your unit shipped back to you via Fedex is $60.00."I told them to keep the machine. I wasn't throwing good money after bad.June 2013 Update: The company read my review, called me, and tried to get me to change it. I found the call intimidating and insulting. They didn't offer to do anything to give me a reason to change my mind, they pretty much just implied I was ignorant and greedy.Quotes from the company: "Things go wrong. That's why we have a warranty." "So, it's all about the money."My bottom line, if three things go wrong in a relatively short time, it costs $60 to get it fixed, I have to contact the company to find out the status because they don't contact me, then it does not make fiscal sense to deal with that product/company. 1A disappointing shadow of it's former selfI returned this product as soon as it was turned on for the first time. I've owned this very same model for years and after getting this new unit I was deeply disappointed that the percussive force is only a fraction of the older unit. The older unit has been used daily for years and has nearly twice the force of this item. I hope it is just one off defect and not a design change that applies to the entire line being produced today. I would be willing to try another item and update this review based on that experience if another unit is as performant as the older one. Presently I can't give more than one star because the performance of this unit is so far removed from what I've experienced the identical but older model. 1Meh, it could be better...I really wanted to love this massager, but it just isn't as powerful as I had hoped. I am a fairly big guy at 6'3" and 250 pounds with a pretty muscular build. I prefer very hard, somewhat painful massages. I just don't find this powerful enough for my back and shoulders, which is what I bought it for. I won't say that it is a bad massager, but I just expected more for the price. It is pretty good on my calves, feet and forearms though, and has helped a lot with the elbow pain that I had. It is awkward to try to use on your own back, and trying to pin it between your back and a chair just bogs it down too much.It has 3 speeds, but I don't even consider using speeds 1 or 2. The dual head design makes it difficult to really dig into the muscle, and trying to apply a lot of pressure doesn't make it work any better. If you try to push in too hard it will sometimes pinch your skin, which is annoying. The massage heads are pretty soft, and I wish they were interchangeable, because I think that they would be more effective if they were firmer. There must be some break in period, because when I first got it it would overheat in about 15 minutes. I was ready to return it. Now it usually goes about 30-45 minutes before shutting off (which is fine but still seems pretty lame for a "Professional" grade massager).I bought this in December 2015 and I use it about 4 or 5 days a week, usually until it overheats. It is a relaxing massager, and I enjoy using it, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. It is decent at releasing knots in small muscle groups, but not that great on the quads, hamstrings, upper back or shoulders IMO. I just wish it was more powerful. Having said all of that my wife is 5'-5" and about 130 pounds and she can't even tolerate speed 1, but she never really cared for any vibrating and/or percussion massager. 3Unreliable Product + Poor Warranty ServiceWhen I first bought this massager, it worked pretty well. I can't compare it to other massagers as I have not used many others, however, it seemed to work as described and felt pretty good. However, despite being used very sparingly and being cared for as instructed, my Mini Pro 2 stopped working properly. When I turn it on it stutters and doesn't gain power. The massaging heads barely move.My unit is still under warranty, so I contacted the manufacturer for help. They sent me instructions on how to fix it myself. I was unable to fix it, and their next suggestion was that I try to have a friend fix it instead. I suggested that instead, perhaps they should take it back to service or replace it. They explained that they do not replace units that are under warranty, they only service them. Further, I would have to pay to send it back AND would have to pre-pay $25 for them to ship it back to me.Given that this unit is under warranty and stopped working through no fault of my own, I think this is unacceptable. The manufacturer should be responsible for fixing or replacing broken units, and that should include shipping costs. This is especially true given the high cost of the item.I would not recommend this product due to the fact that it did not last very long and due to the fact that the manufacturer does not stand behind the product. 1
