Less powerful the I expected.I wish I would have known that this isn't as strong as the mini-pro thumper. I would have spent a little more money for the other one. If you have used the mini-pro and are expecting this one to be the same, it is not. It is much more of a vibrator type feeling not and thump. It still works well to dull the pain it just doesn't get as deep on those knotted muscles. I still use it regularly but I am sure in the future I will probably get the other one. 3Did not work out of the boxThis item was absolutely defective when received. Had this appliance for a total of 3 hours.Plugged it in and did not work....it studdered and would not work even to test it.And this vendor has a no return policy.....I can understand that.....if you are shipping an item that does not work....that is a great way to make sales, and never have to take a broken item back.Amazon, you are better than this, this vendor is a scam artist, and taking advantage of your loyal customers. This is my first ever negative review on amazon.......you do have to discontinue this product line.My overall rating is minus 5 stars !!!agr 1Weak & FALSE advertising!Very weak -- about 1/2 the strength of Brookstone's "MAX 2 Dual-Node Percussion Massager" that I tried in store. I got this one instead because I'm weary of Brookstone's long-term durability. Also just learned, this seller has a NO RETURN POLICY!!!! So beware! I'll be reselling mine soon for a deep discount if you're looking for a crappy massager. 1not powerful enough to be considered to be massagerBeing used to another competitor product, this one is a joke. It is not powerful enough to be a massager. It is more appropriate for tickling. I believed the literature and reviews on this product to be appropriate, however, it is not what it is advertised. 1I love this thingI love this thing. I've had it over a year now, and it's going strong. I've had back problems (herniated L4/L5), neck issues, rotator cuff, planar fascia-itis, and the list goes on and on from a variety of athletic activities. I use this in conjunction with my stretching and self-care routines and it works wonderfully. If you're a bit sore or need help loosening up muscles, this thing works super well. I've used it on my back, legs, arms, feet, neck, etc. My massage therapist and chiropractor are happy that I got it, although my message therapist* told me to "not over do it" with these things as you might do damage if you use it for too long of a period (which he's seen others do). I wouldn't recommend using it for more than 15+ minutes on one area. My chiro has the professional version and she only uses that on me for a few minutes at a time.*My MT has been my masseur and friend for quite a number of years. He knows how damaged my body is and is happy that I got this as a stop gap for when I need immediate relief. He tried out mine, liked it, and recommended it to his other clients. 5Sadly the don't make it any longer it was great and only cost about $50 now they only have ...I bought this thumper on 9/3/2014 It expired today 7/17/21017 didn't make 3 years , warranty is two years . I had to take it apart once to lubricate since it wouldn't work that was about 6 months ago. Then the cord had an intermittent connection so I had to again take apart to repair the wire . The cord protector is too short and too rigid to do what it is supposed to do. Now it got to the point of hardly running at all. Pulled apart again to find wore out brushes in the motor. My opinion is that for $130 it should be more durable and last longer. I had a similar unit made by home medic that lasted for 12 years and was also stronger. Sadly the don't make it any longer it was great and only cost about $50 now they only have wimpy ones and this thumper is about all there is . 3NOT RETURNABLEBE AWARE THIS ITEM IS NOT ELGIBLE FOR RETURN. I just got it today and tried it for all of 2 minutes - completely dissatisfied with the quality and lack of power. I re-boxed it - Logged onto Amazon to get a return label only to find it's not ELGIBLE for returns. I looked everywhere and there was no mention of this when I purchased it so just BUYER BEWARE ...... If you don't like it your going to be out $130.00 and stuck with a product your wont use. 1More importantly, my wife love me for this!I purchased this for my wife for our anniversary. She is a nurse and often after work her back will be in pretty bad shape. I got the idea from a friend that has the more expensive model. Every time we would visit their house she would make me find my friend's and use it on her, so I knew she was going to love her very own model.ProsThe sport version is slightly smaller than the regular model. Personally I think this makes it easier to handle, especially when using for extended periods of time. However there is nothing lacking power wise with the massaging heads. The sport thumper offers an adjustable dial that allows you to increase or decrease the speed of the massaging heads. The best part about the adjustable dial is that it works similar to a dimmer switch; if 3 isn't quite powerful enough but 4 is too powerful, you have the ability to fine tune the massaging experience.ConsThe power cord would be perfect if it about 1 foot longer. I wouldn't really consider this a con, because for most people the cord will be plenty long. However when my wife lays in bed the cord is at its limits. This is most likely due to the odd arrangement of our apartment. In my opinion this does not detract any value from this product.Other notesI didn't receive the educational DVD. Not a big deal considering I already knew how to use it, but I wouldn't mind knowing if there were any tips and tricks on the DVD.Recommendation:If you want something to massage yourself or your partner and are considering a Thumper, you will not be disappointed with the sport model. While the regular model is more powerful, the sport model is more than adequate and in my opinion a better overall value. I would buy this again if I had the choice. 5A back-saving device I won't be without!I give this a 4 of 5 stars, though that is in part due to having used a (twice as expensive) Brookstone unit for many years. A couple months ago I got this machine as a replacement to that Brookstone, and I do have mostly positive feelings about the Thumper with some critical thoughts on the differences between the two.So that you can maybe better get a feel for how you might use this thing for yourself, here is my backstory (pun semi-intended). Almost ten years ago, I finally started feeling the effects of desk jobs. I was always uncomfortable in the chairs and desks that felt designed for bigger people (I am 5'6") and sitting is just plain bad for you, but 9 hours a day + two, hour long commutes mean that's what I spent most of my day doing. It started with being uncomfortable a lot and progressed into sciatica, complete with shooting pain down my right leg that almost knocked me off my feet a couple times, and a huge numb patch on my right outer thigh. Later on, the place that always seemed to pinch and go out in my lower back finally slipped a disc. I could barely walk. The doctor gave me mild muscle relaxers and once the tension subsided, I pushed the disc back in place with my two thumbs. There was an audible *snick* as it went back in place, and an instantaneous wave of relief. For me, I have come to rely on this kind of machine to help realign my discs that sometimes get a little out of place and to relieve tension of the muscles near the spine. I've tried a myriad of other fixes, and aside from a good back brace for when I am feeling prone, or my Yogi Joint tea to help mitigate some aches and pains - this thing is hands down a lifesaver for a bad back. It also feels great on the legs, bum and with care - neck and shoulders. After a couple months of use, here are my thoughts - positive, negative, neutral - on the Thumper.PROS:Quiet: The Thumper is the quietest dual headed percussive massager I've ever used. The Brookstone always made me feel as though the neighbors might wonder what was going on next door when I used it - especially on one of the noisy, programmed cycles where the pulses varied.Simple: The Brookstone had a bunch of buttons and settings. This has on/off and strength 1-5. Doesn't get much simpler than that.Effective: I had gone without one of these for a couple months before I went looking, did some research, and settled on this unit. By the time it came in the mail, I was glad to have it. The nodules that span the spine and the percussive vibration really is exactly what I need to keep my back out of whack.Quality: I've used the Brookstone mostly, but many years ago I had some Homedics and other cheaper brands. They aren't as percussive as the Thumper (or obviously the more expensive Brookstone) and they feel much more rickety. The Thumper, while plastic, feels pretty substantial and sturdy. Lower-cost brands feel like they would break if you thought about it too hard, and perhaps that the motor wouldn't be very enduring. The Thumper motor, while less powerful than the Brookstone, still feels high-quality. Also, with quality and power comes a weightier machine. This helps the machine do it's thing to your muscles without having to press down. It is heavy enough to feel much more substantial and high-quality compared to featherweight Homedics brands, though feels a little lighter than a Brookstone.Price: This is a middle of the pack price. Brookstones cost $200-300 and Homedics types are probably in the $30-60 range. At $120(ish, since Amazon prices flux so much) this is right in between. And I have to say it feels it's worth double the price of a Homedics type brand. The Thumper isn't cheap, but it's a good quality machine that can truly help alleviate a lot of pains and strains, thus is more than worth the cost if you can afford it. And I think of it this way: If it means one sick day due to a bad back is missed - it's paid for itself and then some.Cons, or things to consider:Simple means simple: This doesn't have a lot of programmable settings like the Brookstone, with varying pulses and a million power settings. If you want that flexibility then the Thumper is not for you. It also does NOT have adjustable nodules. The Brookstone allowed for three settings of narrow, normal and wide-set nodules to get more places. I do miss this, especially the narrow which I used on my neck, but I can make do with the stationary setting on the Thumper.Powerful, but not the most powerful: the Brookstone is louder, in part because it is SO powerful. I miss this the most of my old Brookstone unit, but Thumper is sufficient and sturdy at half the cost. For me it works. It's just not cheap: It may be less than the Brookstone, but the Thumper isn't cheap. My boyfriend blanched when I told him the cost, as he hadn't been there for the purchase of the Brookstone. But on the other hand, he knows how much I use this and what it does for me - and for him when he needs it on occasion.Bottom line: I am happy with the Thumper. It has helped me put my spine back in place dozens of times in the last couple months already. It feels like it is sturdy enough to do that for quite some time. If I have any problems I will be back to update this review ASAP, but otherwise I may just come back some time from now to say "Still works, love it!" or if I find a new tip that may be helpful. If I hadn't had the Brookstone before, and somewhat miss the power and the adjustable nodules, I think I would give this a 5. As it stands, I give it a 4 or a 4.5.Hope this review helped you and hope the Thumper can help you! Best of luck!UPDATE 10/04/2016: After having this product for just under a year, I have to say the only thing I miss about my Brookstone is the power for when something is stubbornly out of whack, but 9 times out of 10, this machine does the job and either: puts my vertebra back in place, loosens a knot and gets everything back where it should be. It stays by the bed and I can use it before I lay down when I am stiff or something has been out, to help make sure I sleep with things as aligned as possible. It's very helpful for that. Also, it can be used on the bum-cheeks, the legs and shoulders, which my boyfriend appreciates. He too misses the power of the other machine, but this one is half the cost, feels very sturdy and works pretty well for the price point. 4Works well, but lacks durability and is not repairable. The Thumper Sport, works well, but doesn't last long. I've had 3 units and they have all failed within 1 to 2 years. Parts are not available, and the company does not repair the sport model. Even if the unit fails within the warranty period, you still have to pay $25 to get replacement unit. I considered upgrading to the Thumper Mini Pro 2, however Thumper charges $135 to repair that model so I don't feel the extra cost to upgrade will improve the overall cost of ownership. A similar product is offered by the Thumper inventor called 'Powerfingers' by Dr. Noble, but that company seems to have similar customer service. I'm considering purchasing my 4th Thumper Sport since I'm stockpiling an impressive amount of spare parts in my Thumper Sport graveyard and will hopefully be able to repair one eventually. 2
