Customer Reviews

A Physician's ReviewI've waited five weeks before reviewing this walking boot, as some of the negative reviews relate to poor durability.I think this boot is great. I've had it on for five weeks after fracturing my ankle (lateral malleolus). It's identical to boots that are dispensed by orthopedic surgeons' offices that are billed at $300+. It has held up just fine -- maybe the velcro that secures the two sides of the inner sleeve could be a bit better, but it's of no consequence. Most importantly the boot provides excellent support, gets good traction when walking, and is comfortable. I'd first ordered the Aircast boot, but found the plastic faceplate across the front to be uncomfortable -- nothing like that here.I'd recommend this boot without reservation. 5The best help for your recoveryI injured my ankle a week ago and got ankle fracture. Doctor in the hospital put the cast on my foot. I just could handle it for two days. I came to orthopedic surgeon before I bought this walking boot. Doctor offered the same boot for $225!!!!! And at that moment I had no doubts and ordered this great boot on Amazon. I didn't even expect that its quality is so good and it fits properly. I have 10.5 size (US) and I ordered L size boot. Especially I like air cams. I just put this boot on my foot and press the blue button, then it becomes so tight and doesn't let your foot to do any moves. And I really like it! 5Better than what your insurance will give youI've been stuck in a Cam Walker boot for 5 months now and I probably have another 2 to go. My first boot was provided by my insurance company. I've never had one so I thought that boot was fine. After my surgery, I ordered this as a backup because my insurance would not cover another boot. This is so nice! There is lots of extra padding, and I feel nice and secure in it. The compression feature is great, however, if you are on a knee scooter, the blue button will get in your way and drive you crazy. Now that I'm on crutches, I'm in this boot all the time and I'm so much more comfortable. 5(I work in the hospital so I don't like to wear the same one in my home)This was a game changer for me. After getting a boot from the doc I needed a second one to wear at work. (I work in the hospital so I don't like to wear the same one in my home). This boot is so much better than the expensive one from the doc. It fits better, and I have less pain when walking in it. I am ordering another one! I wear a size 8 but the small fits me perfectly! 5WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVERI just received this product and had a conversation with a customer "service" rep who was very rude, unhelpful, and insulting. The instructions that came with this product are insufficient and incorrect, and being insulted when I called for help is unprofessional and completely unacceptable. First, the boot came inflated, and there is nothing in the instructions about needing to deflate it before using it. I couldn't figure out why it seemed too small until, following instructions, I attempted to turn the knob to initiate inflation and found it wouldn't move. It also came with several small pads, and I have no idea what those are for. There is no reference to them in the instructions at all. Second, there were blue tabs on the side saying PULL UP. Since nothing happened when I pulled them, I wasn't sure I was pulling what I was supposed to pull. God forbid instructions be clear and explicit. Most importantly, the instructions say to press the blue pump "several" times. I pushed it about 150 times, and nothing happened. It was actually this problem that led me to call. The customer "service" rep was condescending from the beginning. Her solution for the boot not inflating was to contact Amazon for a replacement. Has anyone TRIED to contact Amazon recently? My understanding is that it is no longer possible. When I pointed out to her that the instructions were poorly written and incomplete, she said, "Well, that's you then, because . . ." At that point, I hung up. 1) NEVER insult a customer's intelligence regardless of who it is. 2) As I had told this rude woman when I began discussing the instructions, I'm an English professor who taught technical writing for eight years. I was one of the people who taught those who wrote instructions how to write them, so yes, in that field, I believe my expertise exceeds that of a phone operator. 3) The onus is on the writer to make his or her message clear. If the message is not clear to the reader, the problem lies with the writer for failing to take audience considerations into account. I've been teaching this concept since 1994, and my college freshmen understand it better than the "professionals" who wrote these instructions and certainly better than this rude customer "service" rep. Instructions should always be tested with a varied focus group before they are published to ensure they are clear to the variety of people who are the audience for the piece. This company offered no help for a product that, as far as I can tell, doesn't work and insulted my intelligence, my background, and my expertise in my field with full knowledge of the field I work in. I will try to get this to work, and if I can't, I will purchase one FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY. I will never willingly purchase from United Ortho this again because of this rep's rudeness. 1Wonder why the medical industry is getting such a bad rap? Well the boot is about as close ...What a Godsend! I seriously broke my right angle Dec 20 heading to Boise for Christmas. So much for that. After surgery finally two weeks ago was asking about a boot and they run $450 and more from the Orthopedic office. After fitting, the visit etc this was running close to the $1,000 mark. This is exactly the same boot (different brand).I am both relieved and really upset at the same time! They almost force to buy there's at a huge mark up. Wonder why the medical industry is getting such a bad rap? Well the boot is about as close to perfect as can be. Thank you Amazon again in invited sellers as this. 5As good as the expensive rip off the Ortho tries to sell you. Buy this instead! My daughter has been using this boot for the past 6 weeks. She loves it. Saved a lot of money versus the $350 boot the orthopedic office sold me the last time she broker her foot, which was pretty much the same as this boot. She said the air balloons hold her foot in place well and she is well supported. We did buy a medium based on the size chart, but I think a small would have fit better. (she wears a 8.5 womens shoe). Once Velcro'd in her foot ends where the layers end and then there is a lot of the bottom boot extending past her toes, about 2 1/2 inches. She manages to walk fine with it, but it would probably be easier if the boot was a small. Kind of like walking with a flipper on. The front end of the rubber sole has frayed a bit, but that is normal wear. I would definitely buy this again. 5Very comfortableI've only had it for a week but I am loving this boot. I had to order a new one because the insert in my old one was falling apart (was provided by workers comp) and too big and heavy. This boot is very lightweight and easy to walk in. I have 2 torn ligaments in my ankle and extensive nerve damage and I can walk for extended periods of time without pain now. I added adhesive Velcro to the inside to prevent tearing that happened in my previous boot. I have wide calves and wide feet but using the measuring chart provided by seller I ordered a small and it fits perfectly. Has eased my knee and hip pain as I am no longer limping and just overall improved my mobility. Would definitely recommend. 5Great boot! AND CHEAP!!!!Don't let the el cheap-o price of this boot fool you: its a great boot! It's constructed well -- if not exactly the same-- as mid-priced boots. It lacks the fancy name but who cares?!I actually bought TWO boots here on Amazon (this one obviously) the one that claimed to be "low profile" really was NOT!! And it was more than twice the price of this one. However, Low Profile Boot -- which had a really nice fancy label -- had an impressive video & important looking pictures of the technology & proven statements that it was the same height as a sneaker. It also hyped up a rounder bottom. I wore it for 2 weeks, around the house only, and the bottom (which the rounder bottom was scary-slippery) started to peel off!!Here's the real deal: Low Profile just looked lower on the outside. The rocker bottom also aids in it looking lower. It is maybe 1-2 cm lower, in reality, than this boot. It was also really uncomfortable. The inside sleeve didn't go around my calves well, and there was something that dug into the inside of my ankle which was right where my incision was. The little pieces of foam (2 for the Low Profile Boot) were very thin and wore out within the two weeks I wore the boot around the house only. This boot is very comfortable. It doesn't dig in in any specific place and has 4 thicker pads of foam that hold up really well. I've worn this boot around the house and outside. Holding up very well with quite rigorous use.I wear a size 8.5 women's shoe and have on-the-larger size calves and this size Medium is perfect. You could go up to a size 10 I would think as there is quite a lot of room in the front. Some suggestions for the newbies: (things I wish someone would have told me)My suggestion is to get an "Even Up" leveler for your other shoe so you don't get a sore back or knees. You can search for it here on Amazon. It's about $30.The first time you use the boot, don't pull the Pull Up tabs out yet!! Fit the sleeve first, then, while sitting in a chair and the boot on the floor, put your sleeved leg inside the boot. Push your heel as back as you can. If you have tightness in the Achilles, you will not want to pull the Pull Up tab out until your ligaments/tendons have stretched enough to put your foot in at a 90 degree angle. So save the Pull Up tab until later. (it has Velcro to stick to the sides of the foot sleeve to keep it in place)If your Achilles is tight, stretch it out before you put the boot on for the day.Once you are in the boot, secure your toes first, then the ankle, then work your way up the boot. It's a little tricky with the Velcro straps at first. Mine would get all tangled up or fall off or stick to something else - if you stick the Velcro onto itself when removing, you'll always know exactly where the strap is.If the toe and ankle Velcro are too long, don't cut them!! Just bend it back and tuck it into the strap holder. Then it won't be hanging out.The blue inflator does work -- you just need to follow the arrows to tighten it when inflating, and loosen when deflating. Don't blow it up too much until you get a feel for how tight you want/need it to be. It will also POP if you inflate it too much or try to take it off when it is still inflated.Good luck... sorry about you wearing a boot -- but you are going to save a few hundred bucks buying this cheap gem! 5AWESOME!! No need to look further!!AWESOME !! This boot makes the foot through the calf completely secure. I have a stress fracture of my second metatarsal. I have been in a boot from the orthopedist for 7 weeks and still non-weight bearing (and $150!). Out of anger and pain I ordered this boot. After 1 day I feel better,,sounds crazy but it is true ,,, promise. Of course this boot is heavy. It needs to be to stabilize and protect in order for us to be able to heal properly! An injury is not fun nor is the healing process. This boot will do what is required of it. The other foot will need somewhat of a heel . I wear sneakers and do just fine. Toosies do stick out of the top. Ladies,, might want to have your nails polished. If not for yourself for the others that will have to see your feet.. I wear knee highs. This works perfectly & my leg and foot does not get hot. Once I am in the boot I pump it to get the added stability of the air feature. I walked in this for 12 hours yesterday. (yup,,12. between job and kids no choice). When I finally got home and ready to take it off there still was air in it~! There is a release valve similar to a blood pressure cuff to release the air.I am 5'2 size 8 shoe and the small is perfect . The length is perfect also. It comes 2" below my knee.Quailty, quality, quality ~! Look no further. !~! 5
